I like coming from the Chimney Beach side because it's shorter than the Spooner Lake Route. It is really steep though. If I were on a mountain bike, which some people are, I think the Spooner Lake trailhead is more palatable. Both routes are on my hiking and backpacking playlist.
I hiked in there this year and, like you, didn't know the rules and wasn't prepared. I caught one tank and nothing else. But boy that view was worth the hike.
I am bikepacking from Incline avillage into Marlette tomorrow, overnighting at the campground above the lake. Bringing my kit for a little fishing around the lake. Thanks for the tips on gear. See you there soon!
Good vid man. Marlette can be tough. You could hike in from chimney rock side to make it a little easier on your body. Hope I can make it up there once before the season closes.
Right on man. Ian showed up in the comment section out of the woodwork! Good to hear from him. You and Jeff have been here from the beginning and I'm grateful for it.
Amazing video man. I'm a new subscriber, I'm planing on heading there I have no problem hiking but I have some heavy set friends. Can you drive up there?
You can't drive there but if they have mountain bikes they can ride. The hike is on my Backpacking and hiking playlist if you want to see what is in store for you. Glad you found my channel. I have a lot of hiking and fishing content across my channel playlists that might interest you if you haven't discovered it yet. I also have another Marlette lake clip on my alpine lakes playlist. It would be really cool if you could do Hobart Creek Reservoir, just a couple of mile northeast of Marlett. I have caught some really nice 15-16 inch tigers there. I don't know if tigers still cruise the shoreline but there are brookies, rainbows and cuts in there. You can drive within 1.5 miles if you go in from the Carson City side. Or, you can bike it from Incline Village on the famous Flume Trail.
I plan to get up there before the season ends. I read there is a problem with the brook trout population spiking but I still want to go. I never got a tiger trout before.
@@wildernesswithamani1027 I understand that when the brookie population spikes, NDOW plants it with Tigers. The Tigers are voracious fish eaters and cannot breed because they are hybrids. They are perfect fish control.

I hit it there this past Saturday! Awesome hike in and out. I got my butt kiked though haha great stuff man! Least you caught something and got great views!
Marlette Lake is in the mountains between Spooner Lake State Park and Chimney Beach (Lake Tahoe). You can hike or bike in from either side but the hike from Spooner Lake is easier in my opinion. It's around four and a half miles. I have the hike on my hiking playlist.
@@erikaroberson877 For better or for worse, I believe swimming is allowed. A couple of people jumped in while I was up there. Regulations like 'artificial, single hook, barbless only' are typically for fishery management. Of course, I could be wrong. Wouldn't be the first time!
If you go in from Spooner Lake, it is about 4.5 miles. It is less than 4.0 miles if you leave from Chimney Beach parking on the east side of hwy 89 and take the shortcut to the dam at the fork in the trail .5 miles from the dam. This route is steeper, however. If you approach from the Carson City side on Ash Canyon Road, you can also drive to within 1.5 miles of Hobart Creek Reservoir and hike in from there. Hobart is a fun little lake to fish. A few times, I have hiked to Marlette as a point to point, from Chimney beach to Spooner Lake, leaving a car at both spots. There is also a shuttle from Spooner to Incline Village. They may drop you at Chimney on the way back. You can also bike it on North Canyon Road from Spooner.
I hiked from chimney beach this time and in my opinion, the route from Spooner lake is easier and has better scenery. Chimney was serious uphill most of the way.
Has to be single barbless up there. I guess panthers could be modified. I'm a panther Martin guy myself. I like the easy spinning blade and lead body for better casting.
Awesome video thank you for sharing. Going to have to take a hike up there someday 👍🏻

I knew the rules. Single/barbless/artificial only. I just didn't get anything very big. Not prepared? That's just about how I usually show up!

Bitchen lake bud, so nice out there, I hate fishing in the wind, but we all do it anyway!! Thx for sharing, safe travels bud 👍🎣🎣
Basically, when we show up at the water's edge we play on the field that stands before us.
Thanks so much Amani for keying me into this Lake during our early August Tahoe vacation. Will do research here, did not really know about this lake.
Right on. The hike is on my hiking and backpacking play list. You are looking at 5 miles from Spooner Lake.
Lol! I’m supposed to be fishing Marlette soon! Always a step ahead of me! Love the videos bro! I only fly fish barbless.

Nice looking water. Thanks
It's a cool lake. I plan to get back up there and explore the other side of the lake.
Wow, the air quality looks amazingly good considering the fire.
I was seriously concerned I'd be gasping for air because of smoke as I was hiking in and out but it wasn't a factor.
Mepps as well.
Yeah, Mepps blades spin real easy. I like them in low flow small streams.
Funny how this came up in my feed randomly. How does TH-cam know I’m in Tahoe…

Why are there so many regulations at this lake
It's something to do with a stocking program. I think they get brood stock out of there.
How about it's the main supply of water for Carson City and storey county Nevada!

When are you going to do a hunting video?
