Great video. I’m an old man, been fishing my whole life. Ended up fly fishing, Oregon and BC mostly, swinging flies for the world’s largest steelhead, fishing for picky browns with size 22 tricos, stuff like that. I don’t regret the time spent in rivers and lakes. You’re a real fisherman. Keep it up young man.
I'm over 50 so thanks for calling me young! Sounds like you saw some good action up that way. Like you, I've been fishing my whole life as well. Been fishing since I was a kid and hopefully I can get a lot more in during the days to come. I'm certainly going to try. I have a lot of good backcountry fishing, river fishing, and lake fishing action on my channel playlists if you haven't seen a lot of it and are interested. Hundreds of videos. Once the snow clears in the backcountry I plan to hike and fish a lot this year. Thanks for tuning in.
That's an easy spot but it will be crawling with people real soon. I try to fish there once or twice each year when it's still cold. I'm switching over to Lake Tahoe shore fishing off of the boulders real soon after seeing all of those crawdads stuffed in that fish's stomach.
Wow what an awesome huge rainbow!! I love watching your tahoe videos and so glad you didn't get skunked. So awesome that fish like that can be found at a local beach area. Super cool that you are taking it to a friend to feed his family. All around good stuff. Thanks for sharing this awesome video!👍🎣
It's so cold I think the fish are everywhere. Even though I know it's going to be some degree of shallow I kind of want to try to fish the area of Emerald bay where it joins the main lake. Not sold on trying it but I'm interested. That's how the journey often starts!
NICE. I had a couple 1.4 pounders at the high flow Feather Middle Fork yesterday and no luck at a windy (and very high) Prosser on old 89. Your fish was spectacular. Love the flesh that comes from those Dads.
I was loving this big rainbow. I fished the Truckee in CA for Patreon today and it was raging and quickly got really windy. It was tough. Got a nice brown. I was thinking about the Middle Fork of the Feather but I was worried it would be flooded out on the sides and be stained. I might go look at it. Rivers are going to get wild once it really starts to heat up.
When the lake is really cold is always best for fishing. The fishing is tough right now because of the warmer water and the lake activity. I have a Lake Tahoe fishing tips playlist that might help you find some deeper water. It'll be a zoo with people but get out early and hope for the best. The particulars of how I rig up can be found in videos on my fishing tips playlist. I have fishing and hiking from all around the area on my various channel playlists. Good luck. I wouldn't waste time going to any of the Tahoe Tributaries I have on my river fishing playlist because they are all probably really low and warm. That's something you have to catch Late spring when they open and by early in the Summer. I have good backcountry options on those fishing and hiking playlists depending what your appetite for hiking is. Good luck.
That was a nice rainbow trout, man I never tried bacon and eggs after all those years, marshmallow salmon eggs or salmon eggs off the bottom - that crawdad you caught was running from that trout LOL👊🎣👍
I wanted a fish on the crawdad that presented itself to me but I just wasn't getting the luck. I let that thing soak for hours out there. Oh well, I'll take a rainbow like that any way I can get it.
Good luck. The shore fishing has been tough but maybe it will heat up a little once it starts to warm up a bit. I'm ready to start hitting the boulders I like to fish on the other shore across the way soon. I feel the late Winter weather has delayed and shortened the usual Spring fishing patterns on the lake but if we attack soon we may score!
Sly Park? I used to fish there a lot when I was a kid. I bet Ice House Lake is starting to fire up but I think they are repaving ice house road which could make getting there a nightmare. I wanted to fish Loon Lake up there this Spring but I'm not sure with that road construction. Maybe go in from the other side over wrights lake. Anyway, good luck when you go. Hope you get a good one in the net.
@@wildernesswithamani1027 yeah, Sly Park is about 20 minutes from my house here in Placerville and so it's always convenient to work that lake. Got a nice Mackinaw out of there about a month ago. Icehouse will be off the list, unless I go through Georgetown/Wentworth Springs rd. etc., because of construction on Icehouse rd., coming soon! Meanwhile, I think I might work the river down at Lotus and Coloma (river spots). Stumpy Meadows and maybe even a trip up to Loon Lake… Loon has some massive crawdads too!

I was just going to put up a few videos on a fishing tips playlist to help people new to fishing learn to catch fish and have an idea of what tackle to buy! 650+ videos later things just kind of turned out this way!
To be honest, I find a lot of tackle I catch fish on! I was stoked because it was a brand new jar of salmon eggs. I've waited for the bus that never came a few times before when I was kid. Always sucked when you missed the last one!

He gave me a bit of the ground elk to bring home and I just had some with rice and veggies. It was awesome. He had that one processed for him but I think the plan is for him to do it himself next time. He's moving to Montana next Fall so he needs to learn!

I did use the baitholder hook for the crawdad. I weave the worm on there with the hook going through it a few times. I believe I show a close up of how I do it on my "rigging up for reservoir trout" and "my general strategy for deep water reservoir trout" videos on my fishing tips playlist.
Yes, I inflated it. In a spot like that the bottom is an option too. If I am in a spot where the bottom is uneven or there are big boulders I always inflate it.
Every detail on how I rig up for bait fishing in general and the modifications I make specifically for fishing Tahoe can be found in a couple of videos on my fishing tips playlist. I even have videos for the hooks I use, bait, etc.
I've seen a number of people over the years in my boat snapping rods by jerking the rod past 12 o'clock doing a lip ripper hook set. But if that's your style, have a party. Whatever works right?? It's all good.
Who's snapping rods? After I successfully land dozens upon dozens of big trout in rivers and lakes on the 5' ultralights I use eventually they give in but it's never one fish. My drag is loose to compensate for my ultralight tackle. The so called "lip ripper" hook set you refer to is probably a problem with the larger and stiffer rods you use because that's what you need. I prefer it to always be a challenge when I'm battling larger trout in rivers and lakes so I go with the lightest tackle I can get away with and that requires a little more muscle on my hook set and force to get the fish out of danger. I don't know where you see these rods breaking but it sure as heck isn't in any of the hundreds of fishing videos on my channel playlists. Your diminishing crack "have a party" just tells me you are a clown without much experience in fishing light tackle because you probably can't handle it. It takes experience. Just because you don't understand something doesn't mean it's beneath you. Fish on champion.
I wasn't being critical of you Armani, I meant some clients of mine snapping rods. I think you mis understood my intent. I love watching your videos. Great stuff!

I noticed you break the fisherman's golden rule of never holding your rod straight up at 12 o'clock when reeling in a fish. Heck u even go way beyond that and put it pointing backwards past your shoulders! Big bozo no no. The rod should always be directly in front of you for utmost control. Reel in more line so you don't have to point the rod to the sky.
That's out of habit when I'm fishing Tahoe because I use a 5' ultralight rod usually and I need to have the rod over my head to keep the fish out of the boulders I'm usually fishing off of in my videos on my lake Tahoe fishing playlist. Out of all of those videos, nearly 50, you don't see me lose any of those big rainbows with my ultra light rod over my head so maybe I'm doing something right given the circumstances.
