We rode by while they were spawning fish at the south end last year and the biologist said they had fish up to 27" and they had a lot of fish, ie a good year. You should see the view from the lookout on the TRT, where you can see 3 lakes...Marlette, Tahoe and Fallen leaf! We drop down and come back via the Flume Trail, and sometimes later in the summer take a quick swim. Glad you got up there.
Right on. I want to hit it again this year with a few tackle adjustments. Plan to hit it earlier than two days before it closes like I did in this clip!
Right on man! I put a decent day together with a little persistence. I have a lot of fishing content already up but you can bet there will be a lot more to come. Hope you can get a line in the water soon. Soothes the soul!
Nice Vid once again. Had my latest trip cancelled due to fires in Eastern Sierra, 0 for 4 due to Covid or fires.. Got one more shot, hope to head up your way in beginning of Oct. Once again thanks for the time and effort you put into your vids, and bringing us along. Stay safe.
Man, it has been a tough year to navigate destinations for sure! Stay at home orders, fires, $1000 fines for non-essential travel around Tahoe, just confusing and disappointing all around. I want to fish North Plumas County in a couple weeks and I have no idea of what to expect due to fires. Not sure I'll even be able to get in to where I want to go. Who knows! Good luck luck on your 5th at bat. Hope you get a hit and get to do some fishing!
Thanks man. If you could have seen how often I had hit the mountains for fishing over the last few decades without a camera, you would know there is a lot more content to come now that I have one. There is a lot of exploring to do! Can't wait to get keep it going!
Marlette is always good for a few fish early in the morning, you did well to go so early. The fly guys really clean up there. Bite really drops off after the sun hits tho. Tight lines!
Yeah, you can't camp at the lake so I tried to get there as early as possible. People riding bikes up could probably get up there pretty fast. A lot faster than my old body hiking at full speed! I plan to get back up there this year when he season opens with some tackle adjustments. I was planning to hike up to nearby Hobart lake soon. I was reading people ran into a lot of snow a couple weeks ago so I'll give it another week.
@@wildernesswithamani1027 Good call. I read on alltrails that the hike to Marlette from the Chimney side is free of snow now, I might hike it just to hike it since I usually go in from Spooner. Looking forward to that short, sweet summer season up there tho.
Yeah, that brookie was the treat of the day for me. Thanks for checking out the clip. Just got home from the Little Truckee. It's loaded with Kokanee Salmon spawning but the trout weren't with me today. Working on the clip now. Thanks for tuning in.
@@wildernesswithamani1027 We live in MN at this time and were possibly planning to move to Reno for my wife and I was checking out if the trout fishing there was as good as it is here
@@SlayermikeFishingandMORE Right on, I just moved to Reno from Hellish Southern California. I have 145 on my channel. Reno gives you good access to the stuff North up the 395 and to the South in the Eastern Sierra. I have clips on all of it. Golden, Brook, Brown, Rainbow, and Mackinaw (Lake) Trout. It might not be Montana but it can be awesome. Hit me up with any questions you have. Good luck.
@@SlayermikeFishingandMORE Also, I have 7 or so clips for the Truckee River which is all around you in Reno depending on what you are looking for. I get some solid browns and rainbows in both Nevada an California all within 20 min to 45 min drive.
Been really enjoying your videos lately. I’m an avid fisherman in the area and your videos get me hyped to get out. I only have one suggestion... maybe not so specific with exact locations? I’m not an elitist by any means, but I do believe part of the allure is getting out there and seeing what happens. We all gather intel in some shape or form, which is part of the whole game, however if info is spoon-fed it starts to break down the beauty of the craft. It no longer becomes a craft, and the art is lost. I’m not a guide, hence this has nothing to do with anything business related. I profit from fishing, as many of us do, in the form of gratitude, tranquility, knowledge and respect for the land and its animals, and pretty pictures. These aspects are priceless and I cherish the gifts bestowed from fishing. As I can tell you do as well. I’m not even going to touch on the overcrowding issues we’re all faced with (all people/all activities). That’s all. You seem like a nice dude and I’m really not trying put anything negative out there. Be well, and best of luck on the water.
I give a general location like a body of water but rarely go into much more than that. For example, when I say I'm fishing off the MCCarran Ranch trail I'm fishing over a 5 or 6 mile stretch of river of which all of it has to be hiked to. It's been nearly a year since my first clip and I haven't seen a single person fishing the river in many trips out there. When I fish the Truckee in general, I go to access points that are easily seen from the road and are all well documented on fishing access maps available online or in stores (I believe Sheels sells one). Once I start hiking up the river, I rarely run into anyone once I get a distance away from the obvious access points where you can see the river from the road. Google "fishing the the Little Truckee" and check out how much detailed info comes up. What flies to use, when to use them, when fish are spawning, etc. For reservoirs, I typically go to the dam area or the first public boat launch or day use area I see. Many of the places I go, I'm going for the first time myself. I'll just do searches like, "places to fish in Plumas County" and a list pops up then you can type in those locations to obtain a more specific info. My point is, you can get far more detailed information than you will get from my short clips by a simple google search. Especially from online fly fishing guide sites and blogs like the DIY fly fishing site that has detailed fishing access maps for just about everywhere. Marlette Lake, I believe I got everything I needed to know about it off of the Nevada Fish and Wildlife regulation site where they seem to be promoting it. You also have to consider the tens of thousands of people every year who stay in campgrounds along some of these rivers and at lakes and who use guide services and post their fishing pics on Instagram and Facebook. Most people go fishing once or twice a year so it would take them a decade to hit all of the spots I have across all of my playlists and by the end of the this Summer it would take even longer. I get your concern but as I see it, the secret is out and the information is available everywhere. At least you are polite about your concerns and I appreciate that. I had one dude throw out some lame, veiled threat towards me about this topic in the comment section. Losers like that will probably not like the result of starting a fight with me! Thanks for tuning in and levying your concern in an articulate and respectful manner.
Thank you. I don't do much to promote my channel. Between work and trying to continuously make new content, I don't currently have the time or energy to get out there and try to reach people on other social media platforms. Well, actually, I've never even been on any other social media platforms! I have a great deal of fun making content for the subscribers I'm lucky to have. I'm glad to have whoever finds my channel!
Nice Amani. I tried to get up there this year to fish but never found the time. It will close before I'll have a chance to get away. I hope you like it enough to go back. If you do, try a spoon like Krocodile or Thomas Buoyant.
I actually had a krokodile on me with a single barbless hook, ready to go, but I never threw it out there. It was a larger one than I would like to have had but I still should have given it a shot. There will be a next time and I will be more prepared!
Yeah, I have spoken with a few people who have success with spoons in Lake Tahoe. I think the main reason I fish with bait in all of the clips I have for Lake Tahoe on my 'Lakes and Reservoirs' playlist for my channel is success and laziness! I fly fish and use lures enough all Summer and Fall long on my 'Backcountry lakes and creeks' playlist. Thanks for tuning in.
It was fun making it. Thanks. The only downside is it's closed to fishing in a few days! I guess it is something that can be planned out for next season.
If you are fly fishing, It looks like the fishing has the potential to be explosive if you hit it on the right day when you can match what they are eating. Bring a wide variety of flies. In other words, be prepared unlike me! I would also bring a variety of lighter jigs. I made it work but I only had one color of two heavier size jigs. I had enough to check the place out and give viewers a glimpse of the kind of fish they can expect. It's a long haul in there for a day hike but it was worth it. I say, give it a shot someday.
Wilderness with Amani thanks for the info. Heard about this lake and been wanting to go. It’s for sure on my bucket list. Planning another fishing trip here soon. To Ruck a Chucky in Auburn , Ca
People have been telling me to go there since I moved to the Reno area last November. I kept putting it off until one day, I looked at the regulations and saw it was closing in a couple of weeks! I had no choice other than to go on my next day off if I wanted to get it in this year. I'm glad I did! Beautiful fish in that lake. Hike isn't too bad. Certainly looking forward to giving it a shot next year.
Ive fished spooner lake a lot but havent had the balls to make the hike with all my gear from the spooner parking lot. Do you know about that back access road that leads down to the lake? Google maps tells me they are private roads but I just dont see my dad or uncle being able to make that hike, fish and then hike back.
I believe that back route is the Chimney Beach Trail. I don't know how long that is. I know people mountain bike from end to end and there is a shuttle that will take you back to your starting point. I don't know the details of that.

Great day of fishing! Headed to Southern Utah for trout Tuesday!
That sounds awesome! Just being out there will be great. Put some good fishing on top of it and it's a party. Have fun and stay safe.
