Haha, too much talking in it I think. But if I don't explain everything it's just another "look at all the noises it makes" with 0 knowledge to go on top.
I'm planning to get EWG after I get my new wrx. What is the requirements? You said your on stock turbo so is that work or not brake anything? Do I need certain tune or stage or HP for it?
Running stock turbo is totally fine, but the things you need would be make sure you're running more than 15 psi or you won't be really using the wastegate to its full potential, run a 38mm wastegate for stock turbo, internal wastegate bracket. Rally sport direct sells complete kits excluding the bracket
I really like this video! I’ve been wanting to EWG my 2012 WRX for a long time now and still have stock turbo as well and am very curious on how you set everything up! Did you need an aftermarket downpipe to fit an external Wastegate in or how did you set it up? Pictures would be great! Thank you in advance and would love you hear back from you!👍
The waste gate is before the hotside inlet of the turbo on the up pipe. You would not need to change the downpipe, which is downstream of the hotside of the turbo.
I have an ewg on my wrx. It does sound awesome, but the down side is.....it sounds awesomely loud.....and it advertises to everyone in the world around u that u at romping on the throttel.....including cops. Creates a lot of attention. Just something to consider.
So what oil(s) do you recommend for a 11-14 wrx with just a protune on stock? Have been using Amsoil SS 5w/30. Tuner actually recommends Castrold Edge 5w/30. I have no clue even after reading thread after thread.
I ran Motul. Not that expensive, solid brand with amazing reputation, great availability. Never could get behind the Brotella guys, but many swear by the Rotella's for Diesels.
i have my stock 08 wrx ej255 with a access port. i want the external waste gate as my first mod. is this doable with just the access port? to get a external waste gate on my car. maybe give me some pro tips to get this up and running.
Hi there. Some good info about a manual boost controller inline with the eletronic solenoid. I have mapped out what I think you are talking about but I have a question. The eletronic solenoid should keep the wastegate shut until the desired boost is reached, then the solenoid should allow the wastegate to open to regulate the boost. But to stop the wastegate toggling from open to shut, you install the manual controller to remove the spikes from the boost. But my question is, will the inline controller also bleed off the air from the solenoid which is suppose to be keeping the wastegate shut?
The manual/electronic Hybrid setup is pretty dated and no longer necessary. It was already very dated when I installed it, and looking back I wish I had never made this video mentioning that. With advancements in EBCS technology, you're fine to just run your electronic only.
BeardedCrow interesting. I was considering this on my supercharger set up to regulate pressure on the intake side because the pulsing of the wg will definitely fluctuate the pressure in the intake manifold. None the less i found this very usefull info
Nice video. I'm in North Carolina and was curious where you had your car tuned. I'm in need of a good Subaru tune! My setup is very close to yours. Thanks for any advise.
Motion Lab. I would go to Turbo Time in Cary, ran by an excellent subaru guy named Ryan. If you're in western NC, look up Dale from Boxer4Racing. 42 Autosports is also a solid option, in Charlotte.
So I was wondering if you can help me out a little bit. I recently just purchased a used ewg set up and I think I’m missing a couple things. So far all I have is a ebcs, gs uppipe, tial 38 mm wastegate w/ dumptube. But I know I missing the internal wastegate bracket, the correct springs for my wastegate, and I think I’m missing a wastegate seat to make the wastegate fit perfectly to the up pipe? And also another seat that pairs the dump tube to the wastegate? Anything helps man, I really wanna run this ewg setup
So the Grimmspeed EWG comes with V-Band flanges. If your wastegate does not have the flanges built in, you'll need to get the flanges welded on to it so you can bolt it together.
Is the V Band flange that connects the wastegate to the uppipe the same as the v band flange that connects the wastegate to the dumptube. Because on mine the flanges are different sizes, that's why I'm confused.
It's all about timing and tune. You can run 100psi and make garbage horsepower. Get your tune looked at, those numbers are WHP/WTQ Also a lot can depend on the dyno, altitude, and the temperature the day you get the car dyno'ed. I know many dyno's read much higher than others.
You said you're running 16 PSI? Because if you are you're not making that much power even if you're running e85. I'd say those dyno numbers are pretty generous at best. My car dyno tuned at 17.5 PSI makes just over 300wtq on 93, to get 350wtq you'd need over 20 PSI, possibly even e85.
What's your mod list? I'm about to throw my car on the dyno and would like to convert external for reliability just want to know what I need for parts to make the power you're making
I don't even remember, I sold this car over two years ago. Pretty much if you could replace it without physically taking the block apart, it was replaced. TGV's, Manifolds, the whole nine.
It was actually tied to a piece of luggage seatbelted in my passenger seat. Essentially a little lower than where a passengers head would be resting on the head rest.
+islandman183 It's not really linked to RPM in any way you may imagine, it opens entirely based on turbo PSI. You can make crazy boost down low in 5th gear on the interstate. Normally it will start cracking open around 7-8 (tiny little wheeze noise) and really start making a racket around 12-13.
+BeardedCrow thanks! one more question: would you recommend getting this done? I have a silver 03 bugeye wagon looking to squeeze out a little more hp and torque out of my 2.0L
7 people who dislike this video doesn't have a Subaru.

U right they have a evo ✌️
Keng Vang thank u kim. hope u recover xD
Probably never owned a loud car
Nice video man. Informative. Love Western NC. +1 regarding the Hybrid boost control set up.
TY sir, I miss WNC for sure.
About to get an sti and this is a great video of introducing me to turbos etc. new favorite channel!
Glad you liked it man, lots of talking from me was a big risk.
Ricky Bobby got you a thumbs up. :)

Thanks man! I totally love the sound and cannot wait to get my first subaru - a WRX this summer :). Do you know how much their selling the kits?

2011 WRX downpipe, tgv 320whp 330wtq 18psi
Hey man, were you on the stock exhaust manifold with this setup?
Nope, Borla V2 UEL's.
I love my FA, 22 PSI boostaholic and smoooth graph ;)
What mods do you have to give it a quicker spool up besides waste gate and boost controller?

Yes they should be different sizes. The dump tube is smaller
16psi on a stock vf series how much did you dyno? what brand ewg up pipe do you have?
Dyno'ed at 305hp and 355ft/lbs intitially. A more aggresive tune pushed me to 310hp and 375ft/lbs.
Ran a Grimmspeed Uppie with a 38mm EWG
this doesnt make sense. im running 20psi on a 20g in my sti and making 320hp/320tq at wheels. are you telling us crank hp/tq?
It's all about timing and tune. You can run 100psi and make garbage horsepower.

My 2011 wrx on the stock vf48 on 18 psi made 310/348. All about the tune
How's the car holding up? What milage you at now?
No clue, sold it years ago.
Where did you mount your camera, and what did you use to mount it?
It was actually tied to a piece of luggage seatbelted in my passenger seat. Essentially a little lower than where a passengers head would be resting on the head rest.
What rpm is the ewg opening up at? and since going external did you gain more hp or torque?
+islandman183 It's not really linked to RPM in any way you may imagine, it opens entirely based on turbo PSI. You can make crazy boost down low in 5th gear on the interstate.

@@islandman183 u need an intake or downpipe first plus an accessport to get an OTS tune atleast
17.38 pounds of boost? ;)
+Donald Hairline Trump Gotta read that Cobb closely! If I rounded out someone would zoom in on it and correct me lol.
yaaaaaaahhh babbby!
What is this road? Im moving to North Carolina soon
