  • The Volvo Cabin fan is pretty easy to replace, with the blower motor resistor requiring just two more screws to remove, there is no reason you can't do this job at home!

    This is going to save somebody a LOT of money! DIY saves the day again!

      That is my hope with these videos. First to prove that you can do it, and second to get to try!

    this was great! thank you so much! BUT a heads up to all RHD S60 owners, the glove box has 8 screws total. Also it's. straight up impossible. to take the motor assembly out without getting the carpet out the way, and potentially cutting a little section into the insulation.
    It's great that we have people instructional videos enabling us DIY cheap repairs, but this wasn't by any means "5 min job". Along with breaking many screw tabs and permanent damaging the car in the process. if you break a tab it may mean you have water leak into the cabin in the future fyi.

      No parts were broken in the making of this video. Now the XC90? Yes, I always break the rear fan motor tab as it takes the job down from 8 hours to 45 minutes.

      @@FarpointRestorationsAndRepairs oh I am sure you didn't break any parts, I was more trying to say "don't think this job will take 5 min and everything is going to go right just by looking at a mechanic whose done this 10-20 years or so" I guess just giving people heads up. Especially because these cars are 20+years old now and their plastic get brittle and smallest wrong move you break crucial tab. given the tight space and awkard angles etc.
      But yes, I am absolutely for people giving this a go as it potentially will save you ton of money, relatively easy to do and doesn't have very serious consequences.

    many years later....had to remove motor (twice) as something in the whole CCM setup isn't working - no fan. Been working my way through fuses, CCM, fan, fan controller resistor, air quality sensor...one thing to note is I have found it is possible to replace the air sensor when you have the fan out. This is worth doing because you should really use a wiper arm puller to remove the wiper arms to get to the sensor from above. If only changing the sensor, sure, this is way less hassle than removing the fan motor. Hella make an air quality sensor for at least half the Volvo stamped one. IMO it is worth replacing this sensor when fan is out because it sometimes messes with the CCM logic. Also replace the CCM bulbs while out, and CAREFULLY clean the cabin air temperature sensor and fan - do not break the wire. If you do, it is possible to obtain correct wire and solder a new one in (search TH-cam), but avoid snapping in first place! I did resolder all the fan speed joints on the rear too. They will dry/break, so you might as well do that too while the whole dash is out!

      Thanks for sharing the tips- there are plenty of jobs where it is better to do a few extra things since you have it torn apart. There was a few jobs that we would do the waterpump since we had to remove it to fix other things.

    Other than using compressed air, investing in an assortment (diameter and length) Nylon Pipe Cleaners always come in handy because you can clean & reuse them!

    Moisture could have come from a leak in the windscreen seal - water runs down the inside and into the centre console. That's what happened to mine.

    Thank you for the video! I was able to replace the blower motor on a 2005 Volvo S60. I am not able to control the fan speed at all from the climate control panel. Any thoughts on what that could be caused by? Before replacing the blower motor I had the same problem but at least I have air coming out of the fan now. Before it was rare when I could adjust the fan speed if at all.
    Thank you!

    My air conditioner in my car is not working. I recharged it once and it was turning on and off. Sometimes cold sometimes not. Do you happen to know why?

    • @FarpointRestorationsAndRepairs
      @FarpointRestorationsAndRepairs  หลายเดือนก่อน

      Yes. It's the magnetic clutch. They get weak when hot and stop working until they cool off. I have a video on replacing it.

Keep them clear of leaves and ice but should i be doing more ..

      Yes, clean those and if you can, run a garden hose to the rain tray to make sure that the water drains out the bottom.

    hi mr Volvo specialist :) i have question, what is solution for aisin transmissions going bad? does transflush help?

    • @FarpointRestorationsAndRepairs
      @FarpointRestorationsAndRepairs  หลายเดือนก่อน

      While a regular (60K) flush intravel will slow down the failures, these transmissions just plain suck. They will fail usually between 80K and 120K like clockwork.

    I just put a 2002 s60 on the road and working out the bugs before I give to my daughter. Noticed the blower motor keeps slowing down and shutting off for a few seconds and then comes back on. I am thinking the resister. Can I reuse the blower or should I replace both?

    • @FarpointRestorationsAndRepairs

      If it was me, I would replace it all and be done with it. I would shop around to get the best deal on the parts

    • @FarpointRestorationsAndRepairs
      @FarpointRestorationsAndRepairs  4 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Yes, the rain tray drains were clogged with leaves.

      @@FarpointRestorationsAndRepairs so that was taking the plastic tray off at bottom of windscreen under wipers and checking in there? I'm in the same situation currently.

      My fan is still working, just that it couldn't blow the skin off a rice pudding. I've cleaned the air filter which really wasn't that bad. Is this the job I should be doing to remedy the situation?@@FarpointRestorationsAndRepairs

    It turning off and killing battery pretty conmen and missed. Especially if your climate is set to run after car turns off.

    • @FarpointRestorationsAndRepairs

      The afterblow function on these cars is not a bad idea, but since Volvos are terrible in general, they like every other part fails and kills the battery.
