  • An autumn session (recorded on 2.09.21) targeting soles at Hove, East Sussex (UK). Conditions were ideal, with some colour in the water and high time just after sunset. A few small smooth hounds turned up, together with a flounder and the target species, making this a successful outing.

Hi Trevor - at this time of year its mainly whiting and you'll get bites from these at most sea venues. Brighton Marina may be a good bet for a few fish, but check if its open first before venturing out. Good luck and thanks for watching.

What advantages does a sheppey rig have over a flapper, or a 2/3 hook clip down rig? They look so unnecessarily complicated to me. Very nice sole though :)

Yes, they are a bit time consuming to make; but Sheppey rigs act as multiple pulleys and sometimes bites are more positive using them. Thanks for watching and asking.

Cracking video of a good session. Those sole were a good size. I bet they tasted delicious! How do you cook yours? Random thought...you must spend a small fortune on getting to and from venues south of the Dartford Crossing! Cheers and stay healthy. Ken

Thanks Ken - yes travel costs do mount up! Soles are great to eat as well as to catch and so easy to cook. I leave mine in the fridge for at least a day before preparing them - use scissors to cut off the head, guts and fin frills in one go, then slice a bit of skin from the flesh on each side before striping the skin off using newspaper (it does not come off easily if you try the day you caught them). Then it only takes about 5 mins on each side to fry in sunflower oil, with a few herbs sprinkled on - very simple, but the flavour is something else! I just prefer them with new / baby potatoes and salad, so nothing overpowers the flavour of the fish.

I always have my rods to high and don't need to..
Next time I'm at shingle street suffolk i will place my rods exactly how you have them.
Been fishing for years but still learning

Strength of tidal pull and weed issues may come in to play + large waves may require you to keep your rods high. Depends where you are and conditions. When fishing for flatfish I prefer them low. Thanks for watching Dave.

@@rodsangleuk6283If you get a chance you should try shingle street it's a great place on the suffolk coast if you like isolation..
Living in Ipswich the 20+ mile drive to get out of town is well worth it to get away from people and the problems people bring.

I normally use 5 inch hooklengths or there abouts.

How long is the line inbetween each boom

    • @rodsangleuk6283
      @rodsangleuk6283  3 ปีที่แล้ว

It depends on the length of the wire boom and where I'm fishing. In general if I'm using 15cm booms, then they are spaced 30cm apart. I will experiment though and sometimes spacing them further apart may work, if you are fishing an area with no snags and want to cover more ground. Thanks for watching and asking.

Very enjoyable Michael thank you. You are a magnet for sole! It's very satisfying to catch a species that you target. Looking forward to your next video. Nice to see you are gaining more subscribers. Well deserved.

Many thanks again Jerry! Yes, not all sessions produce the target species; however I seem to be quite lucky when it come to soles - just a pity the Grays area wasn't so good for them this year!

Hi Michael, I know those tiny smoothies can be a pain but it’s really good to see them in such good numbers, it bodes well for future catches. I remember when the tiny codling used to be like that, sadly no more. Great to see some nice soles. Well done.

There are plenty and hopefully those tiny smooth hounds will all become double figure fish and hang around a lot longer than they normally do. Thanks for watching and commenting Chris.
