The night before production began, I drunkenly joked that he should play Nasus (which was my Riot name and favorite champion, obviously) for one of the matches (back when Nasus was not viable in competitive), never thinking he'd actually do it. Before the production began, I was setting up the player video cams and he walks up to me with the most serious look on his face and says "I will play your champion." And he actually did. I really want to start loving league again. I tried learning dota2 and i wad disappointed and the game feels very weird. Why does Riot Games make poor choices with league. Its impossible to continue on playing after instant bans for verbal insults and making buying champions, harder and harder to keep up.

Playing since season 2 and seeing TPA Assasins grab that trophy really got me more curious and play league more as a whole. Now in the present of season 8, I feel like a grand wizard when telling other players what it was like in the past. Glad you made a documentary about the TPA Assassins, how they did the impossible and how they were to how they are now. Thx Gbay :)
The saddest part is that these storylines just dont exist anymore, especially on the world stage. as the structure of the leagues has changed, the dominance of the korean teams is so overwhelming... there just isn't an environment that can breed these "royal road" teams and huge upsets anymore. Think of it this way: if either USA, CHINA OR EUs NUMBER ONE BEST team was to win a best of three against a korean team, that would be an upset.
Damn Gbay, I'm so impressed. This was such a fantastic watch. If you ever want to try and tackle something like this again, see if people would be willing to do a gofundme or something! It would have definitely been worth tossing a few bucks your way for this!
This documentary is so good. I'm loving the recent trend on TH-cam to these types of videos that take so much work and dedication: I can really see the fruit of your labor on this. Thanks for taking the time to make this; it was very interesting.
this is legit the best league video ive seen so far. this actually makes me want to flame less. Seeing these underdogs slaying the kings is just great. Edit: Please tell us which music u used
Absolutely fantastic. I think this is where you shine, your documentaries are always beautiful. Was actually wondering if you could do one one empire-M5-GG about their different plays. Inventing counter jingling then their visa problems with internal strife. It’s such a complex story I only know half of, and I know you could deliver some gold
I honestly loved watching this. The end where you showed the TPA 2018 game legit made me so happy. I would love to see them in the pro scene together again. Where would I be able to find the video of that game?
Toyz's Orianna, Stanley's AD Nidalee top. These are names I haven't heard in a very long time and honestly and I miss it. As a young kid who just got introduced into league, S2 worlds kickstarted my passion in league as I watch this amazing team crush all the favourites who was bound to win worlds that year. After TPA's victorious journey through worlds they were all over the Taiwanese media as everyone celebrated their victory. Toyz's amazing ori ults and Bebe's ezreal snipes were a treat to watch even after all these years. Although the following season I was introduced to SKT and Faker, TPA remains in my heart as my favorite team ever in league. Thank you Gbay for bringing back and shed light upon this part of League history. I'm honestly very excited for this year's worlds and I want to see the titan get overthrown again.
I remember this specific tournament was the first one I ever watched, the grand finals between TPA and AF. I had heard whisperings of this team, and when I learned that they were from not-Korea, I was backing them 100% in the forum I frequented back then. Toyz was the reason I picked up Orianna, I remember being so floored by his performance of those god-tier ults, and I actually managed to get pretty good with her. I remember actually cheering loud enough for my roommates to tell me to quite down at some of the fights. It's a shame that the team fell apart, but for that one series, it was one of the most exciting LoL games I had ever seen, and one that rightfully bloodied the nose of the dominant Korean teams.
Good job! Its a well crafted documentary. Sadly I missed one point - their cheesy strategy. Back in season2 there was no sightstone and all you could (and as shown by TPA should) do as support is buying GPM items (RIP Heart of Gold, Philosophers stone...) and just spam wards. TPA's superior vision wars was what allowed them to take on the biggest teams. Actually their cheesy strategy (support being a ward machine) became the meta and Riot had to get involved and so support was the first role to get a rework (the addition of sightstone, removal of GPM items and a max. of 3 wards per player on the map...). They were brilliant strategists who found one simple but extremely strong strat but when the rest of the world adapted, they didn't have much more to show, sadly.
Heart of gold and philosophers stone, good memories used in Irelia top builds lol. Kinda bad memories as support as you couldn't really buy shit. Even though i had over 70% winrate with Janna S1. (Support/Top Main so mixed opinions lol) Edit: Although they didn't really invent that. Koreans warded heavily too as their meta. And everyone bought wards although mostly support.
@@OcarinaOfVali There isnt. Also I dont get how people believe that league is terrible now. This has been the best season so far imo, just behind season 5 and maybe 3
i legit shed a tear when u started showing clips of CLG EU with that music, they were my favorite team and they were what really got me into both competitive e sports and just league overall, shit man good old days, great video
This honestly made me emotional. I shed a few legit tears. This is what we all started playing league for. The excitement felt at that worlds is what we play this game for. All of us have put years of blood, sweat and tears into this game. How have we lost this sense of excitement and positivity for OUR game? You can blame it on Riot or the toxic community, but if you were to ask me, I feel that as a community we have come to under appreciate what we have. We need to appreciate Riot for making such an awesome game. As well as our pros for exemplifying the spirit of what a true gamer IS. The Streamers for the extra fun we have been able to have with them. We need to reflect on what we HAVE, and stop focusing on the negativity that surrounds us.
yeah, maybe it's because i'm a loner in real life but nothing feels better than the whole team tearing through the jungle after the enemy, bodies dropping like flies along the way.
That ending was so sweet i actually shed a small tear ! It's so cool to see all of them play again together and win another game ! I'll definitely watch those vods :) Thanks for the documentary, it kept being recommended but i didn't felt like watching 40 minutes, TH-cam was pushing it so much that when i saw who made it i checked it out and i don't regret.
After a year i still come back to this video to watch it again after already watching it like 5 times. This is probably my favourite youtube video. Great job just awesome!
This video is more amazing than I though it would have been. As a very first generation of league player in Korea, I can relate to this document in so many levels. I watched 2012 World championship live and for sure thought Azubu was going to win the worlds. But only to found out, how upsetting it was. How did I not watch this like a week ago? I thought it would have been long video that won't have much information. It's good that TH-cam still kept this on my recommended list. Thank you for creating this documentary. Good voice, good timing of transition, good pace, and good information that brings that nostalgic memories.
I remember watching this live. I also remember spending the next 8 months playing basically nothing but Orianna after watching the finals. Thanks for making this video.
Here I am, some kid from Southern California who was in high school when all of this happened and I remember it all. Wow, this is quite a feeling. Many memories of being locked up in a room with my best friend all summer playing duos while listening to CreepyPastas and eating junk food. Eventually, I would stumble across this exact channel, become an Irelia main. Years later, haven't played League in a few months (Haven't played seriously at all since 2016), I find Gbay again and he brings it all full-circle? What the hell, man, life can be real uncanny and cool.
High quality, awesome video. I don't play much league anymore, I just hit gold quickly and quit each season for the skins in case I ever wanna come back, but stuff like this is still awesome to look at. So much research and time, so much quality and effort put into this. Fuck the haters, you're an awesome dude.
literally never herd of your channel, never seen your vids, this popped up in my recommended and tried to watch this when working on a writing assignment. never have been so happily distracted, this was an awesome doc, keep up the good work!
NJWS were coming in as the lowest seed. They were definitely not thought of as on the caliber as either KT team and especially not SKT, they just clicked with the patch really well. He is exaggerating, but so are you.
I've been playing League since season 1. Season 2 worlds has the only event I've been to in all that time. It was also one of the most exciting and engrossing events I've ever been to bar none. I nearly passed out in the second match because I was too busy cheering to inhale. I was lucky enough to get upgraded to floor seating and while I can't speak for the rest of the stadium the crowd around me was as hyped as can be. This was a great video Gbay and I can't express the joy of having the memories of that match brought back up and seeing those highlights brought me. Thank you.
I've been following you for a few years now and this was some of your best content full stop. This was a great documentary for the game, well written, well spoken, well edited. Just great period. Riot needs to save this for the history of the game.
I haven’t played in almost 2 years, this brought back so many memories and feels, such nostalgia thank you Gbay. You’ve always been one of the best content creators all these years
sincerely, this is maybe the best league video i've ever seen. you did tons of research and presented all of the information really fluidly without any downtime and i learned a lot while still being extremely entertained. good shit gbay
Great job on this documentary! As a SEA LoL player from the Philippines, it's kinda sad that my country couldn't produce the same calibre of esports teams like we do in Dota2 but I'm really proud of Taipei Assassins since they're probably the only SEA team to reach the top of LoL esports... for now anyways. Looking forward to more documentaries like this. :)
Gbay this has to be the best video you ever made, you made me emotional, overflowing with nostalgia and tearing up at the end. This was so well made, I've been following you for years, for as long as I know as a fellow Irelia main, thanks for this video man. I lost it when you showed that they played another game together. This was so well made, everything, from the info to the music. Thanks Gbay
It's a little late but fun fact for anyone who manages to see this, TPA had maybe one of the first female pro players ever. At 20:52 you can see Janna being played by Cola-lin, and at 22:24 you can see her on the right wearing the TPA jersey. She didn't end up playing at the World Championship, mainly doing manager duties but it's still pretty cool.
i remember TPA being everyone's idol back in elementary when i first started play league this video honestly makes me emotional and nostalgic holy shit
TPA went downhill during mid-season 3 mainly due to heavy internal dispute of their personnel. Lots of drama happened back then and eventually Mistake, of course after discussions with the team, decided to start over at TPA's sister team, Taipei Sniper (TPS). That championship-winning roster in season 2 was long gone even before s3 Worlds took place. Also, the meta game shifts every season or even patch, and there are always players that are better in certain patches. If the massive amount of changes every season, this in a way also explains to the video why esports teams can become world champion in one season and fail to qualify to worlds in another. Toyz was known to be a better mage player, and the mage meta in season 2 (Orianna , Karthus, Anivia) made him shine in competitive scene. And season 3 onwards the mid lane game slowly shifted into an assassin fest, and Toyz eventually got outmatched by other midlaners. As the esports scene further developed, LoL Esports simply invited more challengers, which also severely faster this outmatching process. Lastly, to be honest, the Taiwanese scene was simply too weak to practice on, especially in season 3. What a tragic season for Garena that year.
season 3 was weird for taiwan as their first team (gamania bears that ld become FW) only played against one team and it was SKT, very hard to judge if taiwan was bad or not this season tbh
I think that Taiwan lost touch on handling international teams in LoL. I noticed this since their bad run of started when they left the GPL. The hype that I had for TPA in the S2WC was because of their run in the GPL, in which they dominated every team they came to face. They were the only team at the time to dominate the international stage even before the WC came. The thing I see with teams from NA,EU,KR,CH and all the other regions at the time is that they have good teams, but I'm not sure if these teams would do great on an international level like I've seen TPA do before. That's why the moment I heard about them leaving the GPL (probably because they just beat the shit out of everyone lol), to make an own Taiwanese League. I slowly stopped watching the GPL because they were the last team I got to see that completely destroyed other international teams (before KR got hold of the world). And sadly enough I never saw TPA on the WC stage again. These are just my speculations about what happened to them.
SEA region was, and is still considered a worse region than the Taiwanese one. As you mentioned, the TPA completely dominated that league as the SEA teams have absolutely no match against them during TPA's prime time. Yes you can say those were the days when TPA schooled the 'international' scene based on the fact they played in GPL, but those were the lesser international teams we are talking about. To me if the Taiwanese organizations were eager to maintain the dominance, leaving GPL was quite a necessary move. The SEA lower tier level of gameplay is evident as did have their appearances in the highest tier of international matches - S2 Worlds when Saigon Jokers being knocked out in group stage with 1-2, S3 All Star matches when SEA players could not win a single 1v1 match and Garena All Star got stormed by the LPL All Star with a disappointing 0-2 (on a side note the S3 All Star teams have their roster selected by actual players who played in the region. The Taiwanese pro players in general received way more votes than the SEA one, but two SEA players still joined the team as it was a Garena region and Garena obviously did not want the SEA counterparts to be left out), S5 Worlds when Bangkok Titans went 0-6 and only had early lead for once in the six matches, and S7 Worlds when GIGABYTE Marines went 2-4 and being knocked out in the group stage once again. Maybe they are really making some progress as they had 2 wins last season, but sadly they are hardly a competitive region in worlds stage to begin with. The LMS, while not the strongest comparing to LPL and probably even EU, did have some promising runs at Worlds. The best one was definitely S5 when Flash Wolves and AHQ made a strong statement during group stage, and there were widely acknowledge players like Maple, NL and Westdoor that we paid attention to during those time. Not sure if those acknowledgements actually last for long but at least we did see good results after they departed from GPL. In my opinion, the reason TPA was dominant during the world stage was that they were the very few organizations that were devoted into systematic, disciplinary practice schedule in that time. The Esport scene wasnt as developed back then and not many teams and players had an organized scrim and training routine or possessed a very competitive mentality (S2 TSM in my mind, 'Im sorry about the poor performance' blah blah blah if you still remember). TPA, unlike the majority, already had a practice schedule of training for 10-12 hours every day, and I believe that really made a difference at S2 Worlds.
Its such cool timing that you made this video just a few weeks before the lpl takeover, like it makes this video age really well, while still giving a great view of the korean dominance
An amazingly put-together documentary. Loved the way you captured the history of League and Taipei Assassins and made me feel like I was living it (I didn't start playing league until 2015). Your music choice was well chosen and made me feel nostalgic watching old league clips.
Thank you Gbay for bringing back all these fond memories of league in its prime! I used to love watching league championships, but lost intrest when LCS was introduced sadly. Keep up the good work with these videos. Love em all!
S2 was my first season in league, and after not being able to watch ANY worlds (remember how poor the streaming was????) BUT, I witnessed that grand final live. And my god what an introduction to esports, the thing is, esports has gotten better every year. Worlds finals. Mid season worlds. Domestic LCS leagues and now franchises. Just sucks the game bled so badly in 2018. I didn’t play for 3 months (after playing once a day for 6 years) I hope this game can reach its full potential
Dang, you've got me feeling so nostalgic, and the ending even got me a little emotional, especially with all the joy you could see in their faces after the game. Amazing vid.

CGBrendy It would not be an upset if Royal Never Give up wins this years world cup by the way, and they are not Korean.
Didn't realise I was watching a 40min vid.... Time well spent keep up the good work man
Damn Gbay, I'm so impressed.
Thanks for taking the time to make this; it was very interesting.
fyi this type of vid aint new. It used to be like this, until the algorithm came along
I never thought League of Legends could be this emotional ;-;
Mate has you seen Faker cry?
this is legit the best league video ive seen so far. this actually makes me want to flame less. Seeing these underdogs slaying the kings is just great.
Edit: Please tell us which music u used
the one from 4:50 to 6:10 is pachelbel, canon in d

Donald Dopierala I think you are the stupid one here if you didn't get it
I'm gonna start putting THIS IS A JOKE before every joke i make now because of people like you

He just did broooo
you're an actual prophet
What a juggernaut of a video to return with. That was so good you had me chanting TPA by the end of it!
I honestly loved watching this. The end where you showed the TPA 2018 game legit made me so happy. I would love to see them in the pro scene together again. Where would I be able to find the video of that game?
th-cam.com/video/vhQCfyT-HxE/w-d-xo.html Here's the highlight of that game
Ive watched this like 4 times now and I still cant feel where 40 minutes went. everything flows so well.
I'm honestly very excited for this year's worlds and I want to see the titan get overthrown again.
finally a documentary that doesnt make me want to kill myself
watch videogamedunkey's dolphin documentary, i guarantee you will love it
Justin Lim I want to kill myself anyway
Dude, what kind of documentaries are you watching?
no actually i felt really sad when he was talking about the sad end of tpa so i kind did want to kill myself
Well I can't relate
The legend has returned!!!
I remember watching these matches live! Crazy how far the game has come
I've watched this video 5 times now and each time I enjoy it even more. It's obvious how much time was spent into making this doc.
I was looking for something to watch for a few minutes and ended up watching this entire documentary. It was fantastic; great job! :D
You left TH-cam for a long while, but man was this video worth it, really well done Gbae
(Support/Top Main so mixed opinions lol)
Edit: Although they didn't really invent that. Koreans warded heavily too as their meta. And everyone bought wards although mostly support.
HE'S BACK BOYS
I can't wait for gbay to make a video about how Korea fell in worlds 2018
how about NA and EU fail to win Worlds? =)
@@renzen1 i say the same thing for koreans when it comes to dota as they have never won a world :^)
@@FoxsitoTaquito this is about League tho
@@FoxsitoTaquito Why TF are you talking about dota2 in LoL?

dammit dont make me start playing league again.
It doesn't matter...you'll rage quit after seeing how bad the game is now.
You don't even rage quit you will just see how shit it is now...
Whatever you knew back then won't help you now if you play ^
They should honestly fire every bronze/ silver person on the balance team
Gamers are always toxic, I think riots done good
@@rikrob5172 Well if it makes you happy lol
Omg what a great comment! So true!
That ending was so sweet i actually shed a small tear ! It's so cool to see all of them play again together and win another game ! I'll definitely watch those vods :)
Thanks for the documentary, it kept being recommended but i didn't felt like watching 40 minutes, TH-cam was pushing it so much that when i saw who made it i checked it out and i don't regret.
The ending actually brought me to tears. This was beautiful.
BOOM WHAT UP gbay99 finally back with some ORIGINAL league of legends action
After a year i still come back to this video to watch it again after already watching it like 5 times. This is probably my favourite youtube video. Great job just awesome!
This is honestly such an amazing documentary film. 100/10 AMAZING work!
Ayy our friendly neighborhood gboy is back. Welcome back we missed you..
as much as we could miss our 4rd favorite league of legends youtuber.
And Russia still doesnt have their own server lol. There is a server named Russia, but it's located in Franfurt so Russians still play at 70-140 ping
same for africa lol, 90/145
How do you think people on LAN feel? It's hosted in miami so i used to get 15 ping while natives to the server play 140.
Alaska plays on 120 ping for NA. So :l
thats cause your internet is doo doo :P not the server timmy
@@Boooolin LOL no, its bcs the server is in Chicago and Alaska is on the other side
In all honesty, this is a very good documentary 👍
I knew you're not going anywhere.
Great to have you back!
I'm so happy I found this channel. Thank you for making these awesome documentaries! Each one is beautifully crafted.
what a beautiful documentary, great job gbay :)

HES ALIVE
I've been playing League since season 1. Season 2 worlds has the only event I've been to in all that time. It was also one of the most exciting and engrossing events I've ever been to bar none. I nearly passed out in the second match because I was too busy cheering to inhale. I was lucky enough to get upgraded to floor seating and while I can't speak for the rest of the stadium the crowd around me was as hyped as can be. This was a great video Gbay and I can't express the joy of having the memories of that match brought back up and seeing those highlights brought me. Thank you.
This brought back so many memories.. I was only 12 when I started playing, and this footage brought back so much!
Dude same!!
In the showmatch, TPA played all the champions with their worlds skin. That's just beautiful
I've been following you for a few years now and this was some of your best content full stop. This was a great documentary for the game, well written, well spoken, well edited. Just great period. Riot needs to save this for the history of the game.
Guess you have to redo the entire video if g2 takes down rng
Yep that just happened

Hehe, guess what happened this worlds

Well... FNC lost to IG 3-0 I’m so sad...
I haven’t played in almost 2 years, this brought back so many memories and feels, such nostalgia thank you Gbay. You’ve always been one of the best content creators all these years
SO GOOD, one second I was 13min into the video, the next I was 38min in. Such an epic documentary.
Jake Everett Terpening nooo no no no, it was just that it went by so fast, it was so good that it helt like just a minute
Watched it through and honestly i was really getting into TPA's Journey and was genuinly happy when they have did the impossible
sincerely, this is maybe the best league video i've ever seen. you did tons of research and presented all of the information really fluidly without any downtime and i learned a lot while still being extremely entertained. good shit gbay
I wish more than anything to have played League back in those early seasons, I want to have been able to witness it all from the beginning.
Thanks Gbay
I never got around to watching this til now. Damn that ending is so feel good. Ty for making my season
all good things dont last i guess
Yey i thought you were done with your channel after the hacking incident. Finally new video! BBay from mumbay Back at it
I don't play League anymore, but watching this nostalgic documentary brought a tear to my eye.
That was a real good watch, thank you for this.
I remember hopping on skype with my friends to hype about this. Thanks for the throwback feels Gbay.
It's a little late but fun fact for anyone who manages to see this, TPA had maybe one of the first female pro players ever. At 20:52 you can see Janna being played by Cola-lin, and at 22:24 you can see her on the right wearing the TPA jersey. She didn't end up playing at the World Championship, mainly doing manager duties but it's still pretty cool.
i remember TPA being everyone's idol back in elementary when i first started play league
this video honestly makes me emotional and nostalgic holy shit
Ugly Hat Man Taiwan is basically FW and trash now
I think that Taiwan lost touch on handling international teams in LoL.
Its such cool timing that you made this video just a few weeks before the lpl takeover, like it makes this video age really well, while still giving a great view of the korean dominance
as worlds 2018 played out, this video got more and more relevant. maybe we are gonna see part 2 soon? :P

An amazingly put-together documentary. Loved the way you captured the history of League and Taipei Assassins and made me feel like I was living it (I didn't start playing league until 2015). Your music choice was well chosen and made me feel nostalgic watching old league clips.
Nathan, is everything okay bro? We missed you.
I don't even play League and I found this interesting. Well done.
Thank you Gbay for bringing back all these fond memories of league in its prime! I used to love watching league championships, but lost intrest when LCS was introduced sadly. Keep up the good work with these videos. Love em all!
40 minute documentary? **grab snacks and plays video**
S2 was my first season in league, and after not being able to watch ANY worlds (remember how poor the streaming was????)
BUT, I witnessed that grand final live.
Really nice video! :D
