    • @eskercurve

      but akita airport is not close to downtown akita city. i haven't flown there yet but looking at maps it says that the bus is about 40 mins travel time. if you have the rail pass it is lkkely cheaper overall for a roundtrip, and you got to ride the other trains

    What does the Shinkansen trains do when there is an earthquake? I was there in Japan in 2019 and took the Shinkansen several times and I was curious to know how it would handle that situation.

    • @iatsd
      @iatsd 2 ปีที่แล้ว +11

      At the time of the earthquake, if they are in an area affected by it, they stop dead on their tracks. Once the quake is over they will proceed at lower speed to the nearest station and, depending on the size of the quake, either proceed slowly for the day while the tracks are checked, or if it was a large quake, stop running entirely until all the tracks and other infrastructure is checked. The checks are pretty quick - less than 24 hours usually.

      @lars7935 2 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      You mean japanese? Start by memorising hiragana and katakana. They are a sort of alphabet that is fundamental for learning the language properly. It's also not that difficult.
      Kanji (the more complicated characters) come later and are usually introduced gradually. There are over 6000 Kanji though only around 2000 are needed to do things like read a newspaper.
      I don't have any experience with online courses but there is a big community with plenty of online resources.
      Also take a look if there are any classes in your area.

    Let me guess, as to why the seats are opposite to the Direction of travel. Would it be because... if the train crashes (which is extremely unlikely for Shinkansen trains) or emergency stops, because of Earthquake. You will be thrust backwards into your seat, not head first, causing neck and head injury.
