  • @Roshi_710

    Fun fact: This line was supposed to all be opened at once from Nagasaki ~ Hakata but Saga Prefecture didn't agree to the shinkansen line being built in their prefecture. The reason is that for Saga prefecture there isn't much of a merit for a bullet train line because the shinansen will only be 15 minutes faster from Hakata ~ Saga than a regular express train...

    • @TheZenomeProject
      @TheZenomeProject ปีที่แล้ว +37

      It's not that Saga doesn't want the Shinkansen, at least necessarily. It's a cost thing. They're hoping to get a better deal from JR where they can pay less for its construction and where more of the total cost is covered by JR.

    • @Roshi_710
      @Roshi_710 ปีที่แล้ว +10

      @@TheZenomeProject hmm interesting. I heard that Saga didn’t want the bullet train from a Japanese TH-camr by the name of Suits Train (スーツ交通) where he got the info from some credible sources such as news outlets and JR themselves.

      Stares at E4 series retirement from Joetsu Shinkansen just to increase the operating speed to 270kph

      @bubbledoubletrouble ปีที่แล้ว +10

      Rationally speaking wouldn’t the main benefit not be the faster trip from Nagasaki to Hakata but rather a one-seat ride to the other Kyushu Shinkansen stations? Or are they still going to require transfers?

  • @TheZenomeProject
    @TheZenomeProject ปีที่แล้ว +69

    The absolute best thing about major Japanese train stations is that you can't step one foot in the door without being hit with the smell of delicious local food. It's a sensation that is practically impossible to find anywhere in the world. Usually the rent in these shops is too expensive for anything besides major chains to buy, but one difference is that the local Japanese city governments are very steadfast about making sure that their local flavors are marketed up front.

    I'm always amazed at the width of Shinkansen trains. I didn't think you'd be able to fit that much on standard gauge!

    • @heavyhauler426
      @heavyhauler426 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      11 feet 2 inches (3.4 meters) is the width of their loading gauge. In the USA, the most common width allowed is 10 feet 8 inches (3.25 meters). Im surprised our 20ft (6.1m) double stack container trains dont tip over sitting on standard gauge.

    Dear JR Kyushu, mission accomplished! I now want to visit Kyushu next time I go to Japan. I mean, I did before watching this video, but now I extra-extra want to.
    Kuga-san, I've been watching your videos for the past two years, and they have proven a wonderful comfort, and a reminder of how amazing Japan is. Before 2020, I traveled there more or less yearly, and I've been missing it so much! I hope that in 2023 I can make the journey back to Japan once more. I hope you keep making your fantastic videos!

    This is a great video and Japanese trains are amazing along with European trains. Our family had the opportunity to ride the first Japanese bullet train in 1972. Our father used to fly at captain on Flying Tiger Line and spent a lot of time in Japan on trips. Our trip went from Tokyo to a town outside Tokyo and stayed in a Japanese Rican and there was no English there, but my dad did know enough Japanese to get around spending so much time there. Japan some of lowest crime compared to the United States.

    Recently travelled on this line from Nagasaki to Hakata station. I was concerned about the 3 minute allowance to transfer trains at Takeo-Onsen station. I didn't need to worry. The train was sitting there waiting for the shinkansen, and I literally only had to walk across the platform onto the new train. Took all of 10 seconds.

    Mr. Eiji Mitooka, who is in charge of designing the white painted express type Kamome "Series 885" in the video and the West Kyushu Shinkansen Kamome "N700S" in JR Kyushu's corporate color of red, has designed almost all of JR Kyushu's trains and is the most famous person in the Japanese railroad industry.

    • @MirkoC407
      @MirkoC407 ปีที่แล้ว

      Not sure if I have to object here - because we have to agree on what part of "design" we talk about. The outer shape of the 885, as for many Hitachi trains was made by fellow German Alexander Neumeister. He has worked for both, Hitachi and Siemens for about 30 years. That's why the ICE3 / Siemens Velaro and many members of Hitachi's A-Train series look so similar. He also worked some projects for Talbot (later Bombardier), that's why the first generation Talent regional trains look very similar to the ICE-T tilt trains.
      I think however, that Neumeister does not really contribute to paint schemes and interior designs of these trains.
