    That's a gen1 Hayabusa, truly a design from the 20th century. No wonder it beat everything, back in the days. The stuff legends are made from.

    I’m the rider of the Ducati Hayabusa had an air shifter and nitrous and stretched.
    The only mod on the Ducati is an exhaust. The first 60 feet of my run I’m probably half throttle cause my bike does not have launch control.

Yes, the Busa was modded, but both great bikes and at least both of the riders took it to the track instead of talking about it. For the record I'd take the Duc but the Busa is legendary for good reason. Well done gents.

    Hayabusa, introduced in 1999. That’s 22 years ago. It’s a truly astonishing thing that it even remotely competed, let alone beats Ducati’s 2021 flagship. At launch, the Hayabusa simply smashed everything else on the road, whether it was a Supercar or Superbike. It’s proved reliable, practical, versatile and is as happy bumbling around town as munching up miles effortlessly on the motorways.
    So let’s not be silly about this guys, the Suzuki deserves a nod of appreciation for even being on that start line!

      And they easily do. Straight any modern superbike will destroy Hayabusa if the road is long enough. First, this Hayabusa is drag strip tuned and the paginale seems stock out of the showroom base on that ugly fender. Also superbikes out of the box are not good for short drag races their power band is high in the rpm range. Hayabusa's is got it's power band much lower in the rpm range does for launching Hayabusa got the advantage but as long as you have open road the moment superbike get into 10k rpm it will walk on Hayabusa. 1/4 mile drag is not an indicator which bike is faster but which one more set for a short burst. Good examples for that the best and fastest 1/4 cars are not even close to be fastest cars in the world like dodge demon.

    Any new superbike sold today is faster than a Hyabusa. They're all equal or greater HP but 150 lbs lighter. It's only close because the Busa has an extended swing arm. Time to take the posters down and empty the Tshirt drawer. Busa is a museum piece.

    • @siraff4461
      @siraff4461 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      If power and weight were the only things making a difference yeah. That's not how it works though. You might want to have a check on your figures. Most of the modern bikes are indeed faster to 100/120mph but that's on road tyres and normal courses. When more grip is added like at a drag strip the longer, lower busa seems happy to run with them. It's also faster over 150mph than almost all of them and derestricted will still hit a higher top speed.
      That's a bike with 60kg more weight and 40-50hp less than some. Oh and a 20 year old design now too.
      As for this race? That stretch doesn't even make up for the riders poor launch and the clutch slipping all down the strip along with the 5-10mph low trap speed means this busa isn't even doing times a stock one is capable of.
      Modern superbikes are great if you want to go round a track but a busa or 14r are still pretty hard to beat in a straight line.
      Also remember for the price of this Duc you could buy a brand new busa and have a 350hp turbo kit fitted. If straight line speed is all that matters that's still the best way to go fast.

      I mean let's ignore some quite important factors like torque, spread of power, gearing, length, height, aerodynamics, traction, wheel thrust, frontal area, etc and stick only to variables you can read on a spec sheet.
      Or how about looking at what speeds andtimes they actually do so we can see which is actually faster and where? Or is that too simple?
      Oh and here's another little tit bit you may not know - busa's "only" put around 160hp to the wheel - much like most big sport bikes. There are a couple that throw around 180 out but again that's peak. Have a look at the thrust curves at the wheel and you'll soon see how meaningless peak power is when you're already talking about bikes which have plenty to wheelie at speed.
      Stock busa's will run very low 10's pretty much anytime. It's not unusual for them to get into the late 9's with a decent launch on a decent track.

    • @Real_MisterSir
      @Real_MisterSir 5 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      @@McobraR I think the lower trap speed has to due with the fact that the Busa got the advantage not because of higher power, but simply because it could apply the power more quickly in the beginning. The Panigale just had to take it easier in the beginning because it wasn't set up for drag racing physics. However, once it was able to put down more of its power, it likely was able to reach a higher trap speed once it had passed the first few gears and wheelie'ing all over the place was not a big issue anymore. In other words, Busa was fast because it was quick off the line. The Ducati was faster in higher gears, but at that point the Busa was already finished (even though its trap speed was lower).
      A more clarifying example is to take two cars, a truck and a sportscar, and make them do a drag race on a snowy road. lets say the drag is 1 mile long, the truck will have the advantage because of its weight and 4wd, so it can apply more of its power quickly, even though its acceleration on paper is worse. The sportscar will have to go very slowly in the beginning, but once it gets moving it can accelerate harder and harder and reach a higher trap speed. It just took it so long to cross that friction barrier that the truck was already across the finish line before the sportscar could manage to start putting down its power, so even though it ultimately had a higher trap speed, it was a slower drag time overall.
