Moose bringing back a replica of the old TNA World Championship was such good fun when it went unsanctioned. I was very entertained by his shenanigans until it got fully unified with Rich Swann's championship.
Great video Dave ,Recently i was re watching part of the great american bash and Tully was defending the tv title, it was treated as a big deal, and was booked in a big angle. Proof that if you treat your secondary titles like they have value, then you dont need more than one world title
I remember when Evolve tried to do the 2 World Championship thing twice. They had the Open the Freedom Gate and Evolve Titles from 2013-2015 and then the Evolve and WWN Titles from 2017-2019.
I remember those. When Dragon Gate USA went on hiatus (and than shut down) the Open the Freedom Gate title would get defended on EVOLVE shows. Than they made the WWN title that was suppose to be the WWN’s version of an NWA title where it was defended on all WWN brands but it was mainly defended on EVOLVE.
I don’t mind a storyline feud between two guys claiming to be the true World Champion or a deluded wrestler storyline where he claims to be the true World Champ with their own World Title Belts, both resulting in a PPV unification match but having two or multiple World Champions long term such as WWE did from 2002 to 2013 or now I absolutely hate especially when confused normies ask me “Wait? but who’s the World Champ?” Which I hate explaining and I get turned off by the cheap gimmick. Cause than who is the most important world champion? Look at the last world heavyweight title. It ended up being a secondary world title to use as a test to see if someone could hold the main world title.
"WCW International" was their way of writing the NWA out of WCW's storylines, as Flair regained the NWA World Title by defeating Barry Windham. Flair then lost it to Rick Rude, and after Rude and Sting traded it back and forth, they had to write the NWA off of TV, as the NWA was prepared to litigate as they didn't agree to Rude winning the title to begin with. They wanted Flair to hold it.

When you consider that , at the time, ECW was treated not as a third equal brand…. But something of a developmental / rehab brand than a third equal brand…. Which is why i consider the WWE /ECW title closer in prestige to a US or IC …. Thats better than a hardcore/cruiser/internet/TV title at least
How come the WCW championship maintained its lineage despite Vince McMahon deeming it was to be known as the World Championship after Survivor Series... like we don't remember that. Also you kind of touched on it but the Big Gold belt resumed its representation as the NWA World Heavyweight Championship when it was awarded to Masahiro Chono, followed by reigns recognized as NWA Champions by Barry Windham, Ric Flair and Rick Rude and it was then the whole WCW International nonsense occurred over dispute over the belt and the outcome of a match between Flair and Rude (I believe) in Japan. First awarding the title to Sting, who then officially won it later that night against Vader. I know it's just semantics but it gets glossed over and retold but I unfortunately (for them) remember it vividly. Thoughts?

How utterly ridiculous is it right now that WWE has FOUR championship belts on their show. The black WWE Title, the red Universal Title, the gold belt that was supposed to unify them, and now the WHC that Rollins wears? Wasn't the gold belt supposed to unify the Universal and WWE Titles? So why is Reigns carrying THREE BELTS? This is sacreligious. During the Golden Era and Attitude Era, the best days in wrestling history, you had one world champion and the IC guy was your #2 guy being groomed as a future #1 guy. And that was it for the singles division. It wasn't until WCW created the TV Title that WWE responded with a third belt which was the European Title, but even then there was no mistaking there was ONE world champion
@DaveKnowsWrestling I agree it can be really annoying and kind of futile in retrospect, but with extremely bloated rosters and not having a champion that only defends his title 3 to 4 times a year something has to added in to keep the upper carders and upper mid carders something to fight for and I don't believe the IC or definitely not US as enough clout any more to a worthwhile target for them
That's because having a bloated roster and a part time champion is stupid to begin with. I already covered this in my why the Brand Split is unnecessary video. Plus WWE's roster isn't as full as many think it is and proper booking would take care of that even if it was. Two belts is a dumb solution for a problem that shouldn't even exist to begin with. Trying to fix a part time champion with two world titles is like trying to heal a paper cut with a pocket knife
I started watching wrestling back when WWE still was in the original Brand Split. For me, two world championships just made sense to me, with both Raw and SmackDown having several top stars each, which also made both shows must-watch. John Cena, Randy Orton, Shawn Michaels, and Triple H in one brand, The Undertaker, Batista, Edge, and Rey Mysterio in the other! Both could genuinely claim to be the A show! ECW wasn't in comparison, but CM Punk as champion helped boost the title's legitimacy I suppose! Hence, when WWE insisted on one title from 2013-2016... it didn't feel "right". If you weren't interested in the champion or challenger, the show became a chore. SmackDown was absolutely boring for those years, as there wasn't anything that made the show compelling to watch. I stopped watching wrestling regularly in 2015, it just became uninteresting to me. Thankfully, 2016 freshened things up, and 2023 is proving that the Brand Split still works rather nicely by keeping the red hot Bloodline storyline on one brand, and subsequently allowing fresh stories on the other to develop. In contrast, TNA had significantly fewer wrestlers, so one world title made sense even from the beginning. AEW's roster is becoming rather bloated... is a brand split and a second world title in the works I wonder?
The only reason WWE reactivated the big gold belt after it got unified by Chris Jericho with the WWE Championship is because Brock Lesnar (then WWE Champion) became exclusive to Smackdown. That left Raw without a world championship. The big gold belt was then handed to Triple H.
To someone that started watching during that time, that makes total sense. The problem is that for those of us that had been fans since the late 80s-early 90s, “Raw” and “SmackDown” weren’t “brands”. They were just two different shows FROM the brand, which was WWF/E. How to make both shows interesting? Take a look at the past. There has been more than one time where an IC title match headlined a PPV. There’s also the fact that Vince never put any effort into the tag team division. The tag team belts should only be a notch below the world belt. That gives you more versatility in planning main events. The answer wasn’t more belts, it was fewer. But make them count. World, IC, Tag, Womens and maybe something like a cruiserweight. Then, build interesting storylines that don’t require belts. If you have 8 shows in a month, you could rotate the main events like: World, Tag, World, IC, Tag, whichever, World, World. This way, you don’t need to have your “world” champion on every show, but they are on the majority of them.
It really is weird that Paul Heyman is carrying both the WWE and universal title even after Roman Reigns got the new belt it's super confusing and it doesn't make sense.
I see it as like how the AWA & World Class tried when their world titles were unified. A unified world title belt was made therefore Jerry Lawler had 3 belts: AWA, World Class, and the unified belt.

I'm thrilled that Roman is still dominating with the belts! He deserves it. Notice Seth Rollins trying to make his belt sound just as important by saying "Roman's schedule" the excuse that Triple H used. I am sorry, but Seth Rollins is too much of a cheesedick for me! The year he wrestled Cody, I thought him begging McMahon for a WrestleMania Match was cringe. Undoubtedly, Roman's championship is the ultimate one to obtain! They could have resolved this issue by having Cody choose which championship he wanted to compete for. He could have chosen the "WWE title" as a tribute to his Dad's unfulfilled desire. Cody emerges victorious, Roman still owns the Universal Title and extends his reign to an impressive 1000 days, or however long they choose to make it last. What if they want to break the record??? That has to be on their mind because starting all over now would suck. If I was creative, I would consider it because then Roman would be the "greatest of all time," which he has to be in the conversation now. Roman on Mt Rushmore??? He definitely is in my Top 5 of the best of all time.

Oh, the TV title was a big deal in the 80s. Dusty and Tully had great matches over it, Mike Rotunda, Sting etc. So many great champions.
A well used TV is always a good idea. I also wouldn't have minded a legit Internet title just for online matches

I think each promotion should have only one world championship belt ,i think the way it was in the NWA was the best only one world title
