This is how you know Danni is young with young eyes... Once you reach a certain age you start making the interior of any small enclosed space with no lighting white so you can actually see what's in there. I say this with my almost 47-year-old eyes that just painted the interior of all my kitchen cabinets white because I couldn't see what was in them.🤣😂🤣😂 I think the only thing I miss more than good eyesight is fully working knees.
Hey girl! You are not old at 46! Careful how you think of yourself before you create self-fulfilling prophecies. ;) And I say this with much love. ♥ I am 71 and nothing wrong with my knees. I am also working on improving my eyesight. :D I think maybe the colour of what you put in your closet/cupboard should determine what colour to paint the inside. For instance, Danie's linens are mostly light-coloured, so they pop against the black. But if you had a lot of dark linens/dishes or whatever in your closet, then a lighter interior would be more appropriate. :)
I have always liked interiors of things (cabinets, bags, closets, and especially my purses) to be light colored so I can find things easily. It's hard for me to find purses. I love black purses but most of them have black interiors. That being said, Danie's linen closet is gorgeous. I just know I would have a flashlight in there for myself. 😁
Omg! Yes! The closet is really nice, but I wouldn't be able to see a thing in there. I hang motion lights everywhere cause I can't see 😳 lol. BTW, I'm 62yrs old. 👵🏾 but she's young, and it's her house, to each his own.
Lol. I love the Abyss. I've spent years describing things as a "Russian water tentacle," but no one ever understands. In other news, I own a 1907 home, and it is every bit as wonky as yours. I've reno'd and restored every inch of it on my own. Gaps like at the top of your plywood panel are literally why trim was invented. No one does perfect cuts--we just tuck it behind pretty trim pieces. Great job on your amazing new closet!
Living in a very old (former farm) house in Germany: yes, we have wonky walls and uneven floors. It's okay if your house is as wonky as the people living in it :P Can't wait to see part 2
My (also German) house isn't even that old - it was built in the 70s - but it's completely wonky as well! The carpenter recently made the rookie mistake of assuming that the openings for the windows would be the same width at the top as at the bottom ... installing new windows involved a lot of cursing! 😆 And hanging anything always involves deciding "Do I make it *look* level or actually *be* level?" But yeah, I love it and it suits me! 😉 And Danie, you rock on, and may your wonky house bring you, and us, so much more joy in the future!
I know the wonky floor situation. In the main bedroom if you put a ball in one corner it would roll to the other corner easily lol. Not so obvious now we have fitted carpets.
The high contrast of the black paint against the light colored linens and wicker baskets makes you closet look like a fancy boutique display. I love it!!!!
This is just the best! More challenging and creative in some ways than a room makeover. And I Iove a good- looking, functional, well-organized closet. Way to go Danie! 😍
I was a projectionist in.a movie theater when The Abyss came out. We hadn't seen computer generated effects like that before, and everyone on staff stayed that night to watch the movie twice after we closed because it was so great.
Oh my! Who would have thought one could get excited over a linen closet, but it is beautiful. Just going through your house in the beginning, it is hard to imagine you have only been there for a year. It is beautiful, filled with character and anyone would love to live there.
This reminds me so much of a room we have under our staircase that I have converted, with help, into my little office under the stairs. Luckily I didn’t have to give it up to be a linen closet as we already have that adult thing sorted. Please never change Danie. You are so awesome and make me seriously laugh out loud but also teach me so much. Much love from South Africa to my favorite content creator.
Looooove the linen closet! The black was a nice choice. Also, The Abyss…totally underrated movie that my nerd Dad always made us watch when we were kids. My dad was the beessssst!
I was cheering as you were putting in the shelves, AND THEY FIT!!! I also have an old house (where nothing is straight, square or level) and when I did my linen closet, I forgot to account for the crooked walls. I had cut my shelves all neat and square and none of them fit correctly. There was a lot of crying and caulking that day... Great job, Danie!
What about "Trust the process"-Merch? I would love that. So many times, I'm in the middle of a DIY thinking "Oh my... what have I gotten myself into?". A little "Trust the Process" would definitely help.
Re: your ceiling level, LOL! I also live in an old home, and I have to put a yoga mat behind my office chair or it will roll across the room. We also had to strategically place our bed or we would get lightheaded from the blood rush to our heads 😂 Love my DIY Danie Saturday morning routine XOXO
Hahaha! Yoga mat is a good solution. I was working from home the other day, and decided to set up in the dining room at the buffet table with my wheeled office chair. Spent the day clinging desperately to the floor with my toes so I wouldn't drift away into the middle of the room
Every time I see one of your videos, I’m like “OHTHANKGOD!!!”, and I click so fast that I nearly sprain a finger. This idea is really cool, props to you for doing it yourself, and I can’t wait to see the second part. Plus, I LOOOVED all of the Emperor’s New Groove clips 😋
I needed your rant this morning ❤️ we are starting a diy kitchen renovation today and the scope quickly got out of hand when we found out we have HVAC ducts we need to move 😬 I’m scared but I know we can still do it when I watch women like you do stuff like this all by yourself ❤️❤️
Thank you for acknowledging that it IS hard to measure long/large distances by yourself. I think people forget how much harder it is to do big projects on your own- not impossible but definitely more challenging...
@@DIYDanie You are so inspiring! Yesterday I went to Lowes and bought wood to make a small bench seat. I’m so anxious to put it together! I’m looking forward to seeing what you do in 2022:) Hey that rhymes lol 😂

The great thing about the ply backing is you can hang things more easily. I am a firm believer of having thick ply under the tub/shower walls so grab bars can more easily be added later in life.
Danie I love you and your content but can we talk about how fab your editor is??? I don’t know if it’s you or someone else, but absolutely top shelf editing that matches so perfectly with your humor!
The ply could’ve gone up to the ceiling and a trim on the bottom to hide the shortcoming of the ply, but you never disappoint, Danie! I love everything you’ve created!
Even with new construction homes, walls aren't perfect, and angles aren't perfect! Unless the home was entirely made by machines, humans are imperfect, and we have to adapt! Danie, you always make GORGEOUS stuff and your process shows us all that DIYs aren't about perfection the first time around - DIYs are about learning and doing our best. What a gorgeous linen closet!
Love the creative use of space! When I first saw how deep the closet was, I thought, gee, maybe some kind of movable wall dividing front from back..? or a slide out pantry-type setup..? Accessing the lower part from the adjacent room is genius and WAY less complicated, I'm sure. Can't wait to see what you do with it!
Omg YASSSSSS! THANK YOU for the Red Green clip! Dad used to watch that EVERY Saturday! I was a teenager then, so it was annoying yet I reluctantly found it funny! (Also I'm in the states, bit this was a great Canadian import!)
Thank you for this timely video… I just realized new carpet is coming in a month and I can empty the closets now and paint them…. Not worrying about the old carpet! I don’t know if I would’ve had this aha moment without your video today! Thank you Danie
looks wonderful! We just had an insulation in our attic quote and found out we have a large harry potter cupboard behind my husbands closet wall. the reason we didn't know about it there is no door into it from the guest room. So many ideas from you. Way to go great build
On year for me is short. I've been in my house for 5 and sitll cant figure out. Its a small 1931 'british cottage' style. Very small. LOVELY LINEN CLOSET! I live for your DIYs
Beautiful job Dani. Best linen closet organization I was taught growing up, fold all sheet sets and tuck each set into (one of) it's pillowcases. Then tuck the remainder of pillowcase in snug around enclosed sheets. Now everything is together and ready to go when needed. Can't wait to see you finish the closet.
Wow! What a great job,Danie! But then you always do a wonderful job with all your builds. This is going to be a win-win situation. Who else would have thought of making two closets from one. Looking forward to video # 2. 🤗
Neat! I have one like it under the stairs. Added an outlet and hung my Dyson in there, great place for guitar cases, putting seasonal clothing in the suitcases for storage, earthquake preparation in suitcases, too. 💕☮️👍🏻
I hit like before I even watch..so enjoy your quirkiness and you are a great DIYer💚 I especially love when you collaborate with the huntress💚 OK I finished it all came out beautiful!
I love the aesthetic in your home! The closet looks great. This channel is one of the biggest inspirations for me to start taking more creative risks in my own home. Also, I noticed the Kreg Ripcut when cutting the plywood and I've gotta say, one of the best tools I've purchased. No idea why, but seeing you use if made me feel so validated for my choices. 😂
The Abyss tangent at @17:15, and Red Green cameo at @22:13 are my favourite moments from this closet transformation video. What really stands out is you didn't skimp on the details such as applied pre-stain (which you loathe) to the shelves, and painted your braces and quarter round before putting them in place.
Not always the case, but I find if I've put time into "beautifying" a space I don't have to muster up some extra motivation to maintain it, and if you have a system that suits your lifestyle it takes barely any time to bring it back to completely organized if it gets a bit out of whack.
As a former owner of an older home, I feel the pain of no space being square! Having both a handy husband and father-in-law saved the day in renovations! You did it! Blessed and safe days!
So so amazing! You are a HOOT to watch, always make me LOL!! Great job! And yes, our house was built in the 50's, when there were no codes no plans and remodels are a nightmare!! \o/
Wow...you are the QUEEN. I mean you’ve always been the queen to me, but when you put the 1/4 round in...I was like...she is the QUEEN!!! 👸🏼 Looks freaking amazing...and now I have a great idea how to deal with my stupid tiny rental linen closet that is currently full of thrifted treasures waiting to Be DIYed! ❤️
The Abyss was a fantastic movie. I also love that you cut the closet in two. We did the same thing for exactly the same type of closet in our house. It's so much more efficient. You'll be very happy with it.
When the red green show clip popped up I about died of laughter. My husband is half Canadian and when we were newlyweds we would watch that show. He uses that phrase quite often. Showed him that part of your video and he loved it!! Thank you for making my Saturday morning and I love how the linnen closet turned out - way to go!!
Love this so much! Love you, Danie! This is inspiration to the max. I've been working on a closet remodel for...um...a really long time?? Ten minutes here, 30 minutes there... My partner helped create a wall with plywood we had around. I kinda wish we had time-lapse video of us testing the fit, carrying it back through the house, shaving some off, carrying it back in...and repeating 5 times...set to "Yackity Sax." Our house was built in 1920, and nothing is even or straight. What it is! ✌😂❤ Joys of a cool old house with character!
Awesome Danie! A genius way of using a slantered closet by making two different closets. Looking forward to part 2, as I am curious how your genius mind is going to tackle the diy.
My immediate thought when I saw the depth of the closet and you mentioned it shared walls with the two bedrooms was to split it into two with the luggage being in the back half with a door in one of the bedrooms. Luggage is only occasionally used. Linens are used all the time. Great solution. And as for the it's not quite perfect cut you showed us all how to make it right. There is value in that too for all us DIYers. Your finished product is great and you have added livability to your home.
Married 30 years, *The Abyss* was our first date. It's OUR movie. (We don't have *a song*, we have a MOVIE) lol. Love DIY Danie Saturday. Best day of the week.
I can totally vibe with the part where you said "but now I'm an adult... and I want a linen closet" 😉 I have a loooong list of things I have to buy right now and nothing gives me more joy atm than finding good deals on home appliances. (─‿‿─) Anyway, the 1st part looks great, can't wait to see part 2 next week
I've been a supposed adult for a very long while now..still not quite there, although I do have a hotpress/airing cupboard/linen closet not unlike Danie's original!
Love this! I'm painting all of my doors black right now. Part of the remodeling project I'm working on. I'm 47 too but I love the drama colors so much! Love all your projects too! Hugs from Texas!
Such a clever way to use the space! Can’t wait to see the other half! I live in a 1 bed apartment with a HP closet (could definitely fit a Twin mattress) it’s so hard to store things!!
This closet reminds me of the novel: Deadly education from Naomi Novik. The dark abyss 😂😂 i rly like it! Its so beautiful that you can built this by yourself!!!💪🏼
Hi Danie! Great trick to never ever have paint bleed under your tape is to brush a strip of white on the tape line. This tip has made my mural projects a million times less stressful. Hope it's useful for you!
I redid my pantry in November and did my shelves exactly like you. Except we have metal studs :( I purchased motion activated recharable battery-powered light strips so we can see everything. Also, I modified the bifold doors into french doors. It is so much easier to access all the corners now. I've been watching your channel for quite a while now, and you helped give me the confidence to do it.
Loved this design, when you started off the video I imagined the same exact design choice you made. It made it even more exciting to watch it come to fruition! I love that you choose black, that's a way more daring and durable color for a linen closet. The dramatic look with the wood was *perfect. Btw, your edits were A++++, amazing! Such a great vid!!
You just inspired me soooo much right now!!! For months I've been avoiding a closet space in my home and this just just made me think I NEED TO DO THIS!!!! Than you thank you thank youuuu
Yes Abyss! I also recommend the book Deep Fathom by James Rollins. Amazing transformation!!! I really love the baskets and wood shelves in there. Inspired to tackle my closet now. I have one of those cheap wire closet shelf systems in mine and it is wasting so much space. I've been wanting to switch to full front-to-back shelves like this.
Perfect timing! I'm going to do a closet overhaul in February (No I am not procrastinating. Yes I am perfectly capable of doing so). That closet is even worse than yours so I am greatly relieved to see that it can be conquered.
Sphere gave me nightmares and I haven't really forgiven my Kiwi compatriot, Sam Neil, for doing that movie. The Abyss was a lovely movie. That breathing of the liquid was amazing. Totally underrated movie. You're right.
It looks and functions great! Now personally prefer light and bright walls in closets, mainly so I can see and find things easier, however this color combo is attractive. So curious what the next closet will look like.🧐
Ugh... the fact that I love this so much and a beautiful linen closet brings me joy just reminds me that I am now an adult! It's gorgeous though, I can't wait to see part 2. 😍
YAY two parter!!! I feel like the new houses even have those measurement issues because they just slap them up. I live in a high growth area with lots of nationwide home builders. We had to change our door that goes from inside the house to the garage and the measurements were INSANE.
This was fantastic! I really loved the dark abyss walls! You notice the beautiful shelves and brackets and linens. Not the actual space their in. Lovely! Also, impressive by yourself diy! Applause, applause, applause!
I wish there was a love button! Well done Danie, I've been following you for ages and I love your videos so much. This especially because you show the whole process, with vulnerability and pride. You deserve to be proud, it looks amazing. Can't wait for part 2!
Yes! Our house was built in 1914 and has been slowly sinking lol. We had new footers, jack beams and steel headers installed in the basement to jack our house up. There was a 1.5" difference in flooring over a 8ft span. All our walls are slanted and nothing is plump or square. Fun times
I LOVE how this turned out! It was so great to watch you take this on all by yourself and show us that we can try project like this as well. All your pep talks made me feel that maybe I can tackle my own awkward closet. I'll definitely steal that level-on-a-stick trick if I do 😉👌 I also loved the editing and all the jokes. The Moment-of-Truth Cam was a real highlight 😂
Can’t wait for next week’s episode…. Man, this is cruel! Oh and this was awesome to watch! It’s so inspiring that you do these things all by yourself. I am so scared to tackle larger projects that I keep the off for ever… hope that someday soon I will also tackle one of the many unsightly and non-functioning parts of my apartment. Anyway, you’re just the best part of my Saturday mornings. Always looking forward to new content by you. Thanks so much!
Yes! That kind of unevenness is common in houses due to settling. My husband took a door jamb apart and then didn’t put it back together properly. A few years later, I forced the issue because we were having another kid and it had already settled in a way that we couldn’t get the door jamb back the way it was. We’re going to have to get someone in to fix it properly now, but it’s screwed in enough to get the door closed (more or less).
Gorgeous! I have many a natural basket in this vein. Right now they are on old black ikea bookshelves so I can definitely see myself styling closets like this in the future. And I’m gonna need those larger baskets in my life too, thanks. Also your hair looks stunning, as always.

The Abyss was a fantastic movie. I also love that you cut the closet in two. We did the same thing for exactly the same type of closet in our house. It's so much more efficient. You'll be very happy with it.
It’s DIYSaturday!! Danie is always epic and her DIY’s are as well. I love all these journeys. Tackling the things I hate too a win win.
I kinda wish we had time-lapse video of us testing the fit, carrying it back through the house, shaving some off, carrying it back in...and repeating 5 times...set to "Yackity Sax."
Our house was built in 1920, and nothing is even or straight. What it is! ✌😂❤ Joys of a cool old house with character!
happy linens, happy Stanley, happy viewers. Well done, Danie.
Love this project! The black walls worked with the wooden shelves and baskets!!! Your projects are inspiring and amazingly well executed!
Married 30 years, *The Abyss* was our first date. It's OUR movie. (We don't have *a song*, we have a MOVIE) lol.
Love DIY Danie Saturday. Best day of the week.
I can totally vibe with the part where you said "but now I'm an adult... and I want a linen closet" 😉
I have a loooong list of things I have to buy right now and nothing gives me more joy atm than finding good deals on home appliances. (─‿‿─)
Anyway, the 1st part looks great, can't wait to see part 2 next week
I've been a supposed adult for a very long while now..still not quite there, although I do have a hotpress/airing cupboard/linen closet not unlike Danie's original!
Nothing wrong with a linen closet, but I’m also totally down for a closet to hide in.
The editing of this is really fun!
Such a brilliant use of space Danie, can't wait for part 2!
Such a good series!! ♥️
Good morning We love your channel and we love you!! 💜 Thank you for always brightening our day with your humor and your phenomenal DIYs!!! 💗
You are SO welcome! Thank you for supporting! Xx
DANIE. THAT BRAID. Just stop with all this magnificence. Just. I can't. Magnificent.
Morning dear, love the linen closet
Happy new year
Hi Danie! Great trick to never ever have paint bleed under your tape is to brush a strip of white on the tape line. This tip has made my mural projects a million times less stressful. Hope it's useful for you!
Danie: "You can totally do it by yourself."
Also Danie: "This was a nightmare." 😂
Same!
Geoffrey and Danie moments are too cute! Great work on part 1 can't wait for part 2
You just inspired me soooo much right now!!! For months I've been avoiding a closet space in my home and this just just made me think I NEED TO DO THIS!!!! Than you thank you thank youuuu
There is seriously no better way to wake up on a Saturday than Coffee, Mary Jane and DIY Danie!
😂 I'm into this trio of good times!
@@DIYDanie ❤️ ps .. the closet came out fab! I’m in love with the moodiness of it
@@GloriaG1972 🖤🖤🖤 thank you!!
Being the Harry Potter closet I’m kind of expecting you to walk back and forth 3 times and a door will appear! Can’t wait for part 2!
You put the 'linen' in linen closet! Inspired measurements + colors + baskets...total package!! Geoff as always thinking LEVEL!!! 💥💯💥
Never doubted your vision for a second! Looks amazing! Such a genius idea to transform it into 2 functional closet spaces! Can’t wait to see part 2
Wonky walls are part of the charm. Love your imagination, and your accomplishments. Go Danny.
Old homes are like this. New homes are like this. All homes are like this! Be kind to yourself🧚🏻♀️🧚🏻♀️🧚🏻♀️
Perfect timing! I'm going to do a closet overhaul in February (No I am not procrastinating. Yes I am perfectly capable of doing so). That closet is even worse than yours so I am greatly relieved to see that it can be conquered.
I think this is my favorite video of Dani’s so far
Great process, brilliant outcome, love the baskets, they add to the warmth of the wood and keep the shelves tidy.
I think you did a bang-up job. You split a space and created two closets. Yes, you did a thing.
This is one of my favorite videos you've done. So cool to see how the pieces fit together AND that you can do it solo!
This was fantastic! I really loved the dark abyss walls! You notice the beautiful shelves and brackets and linens. Not the actual space their in. Lovely! Also, impressive by yourself diy! Applause, applause, applause!
LOVE, LOVE, LOVE this! I'm also so excited that there will be a part 2 AND another closet makeover/transformation in the original linen closet! :D
I wish there was a love button! Well done Danie, I've been following you for ages and I love your videos so much. This especially because you show the whole process, with vulnerability and pride. You deserve to be proud, it looks amazing. Can't wait for part 2!
Danie, that closet IS dope. Love it! Happy New Year everyone!!.
Ribbles ?!? That is the cutest name I ever heard!!!!!
Yes! Our house was built in 1914 and has been slowly sinking lol. We had new footers, jack beams and steel headers installed in the basement to jack our house up. There was a 1.5" difference in flooring over a 8ft span. All our walls are slanted and nothing is plump or square. Fun times
love it! You are such a breath of fresh air. Can't wait to see the back closet. Could you please share the info on your gorgeous doorknobs?
Loooove! You've inspired me to rethink a closet in the home we're renovating! You're a DIY QUEEN.
Gorgeous!
I have many a natural basket in this vein. Right now they are on old black ikea bookshelves so I can definitely see myself styling closets like this in the future. And I’m gonna need those larger baskets in my life too, thanks.
Also your hair looks stunning, as always.
