I’m a noob to all these buttons! Always been into fast cars. First SUV. Just got a trail today. Thanks for the info!

Hell yeah...Love my 4runner. Mine makes that same sound when using ATRAC. Just applies brakes to any wheel that is spinning freely.

You can’t ascend downhill. I think DAC must stand for “Downhill Assist Control.”

Question, might be dumb. On the TRD OFF Road it does not have a DAC, would the Crawl Control low speed be the go to for a decline of this nature? Thank you in advance

Crawl control can be used to go up or downhill and yes it works that same way. It also has 5 different speeds

      I was the same :D
      The noise was terrible.
I thought that there is a problem and immediately turned it off.
      Downhilled by the brakes :)
From the comments i understand that i am not a private case :D

On a difficult trail, crawl/downhill assist is a unstable. Since it pulses, it can go way to fasts or cause tire slipping or sideways sliding since it’s uneven. It works for easy, simple stuff. So do brakes or 4lo 1st.

It's honestly too noisy besides what you just said. I've definitely has its place in some situations though. Not needed, just nice sometimes.

I wonder if Subaru X-Mode is inferior, equal, or superior in a scary downhill situation. Obviously 4Runner is better to get through obstacles, but I wonder if vehicles that weigh less are safer/better for scary downhill descents?

Downhill Assist Control, not Ascend control. You can’t ascend while going downhill.
