This happens often I heard it’s normal and so many saps who like using Chase even after this. Suckers stop using Chase they have had so many problems and don’t care unless the news makes a scene.

My husband died just over a week ago and I am going through this right now. Chase bank has a 99 billion dollar hold on his account. The account we use to pay bills. I cannot pay anything until they let it go. I didn't even have a death certificate on hand and they blocked the account. Funny how quick they are to protect their money and how slow they are to help. As soon as I can I will close the account. I can't deal with these people.

I worked for 3 banks and 2 Credit Unions in 20 years of my banking life. I saw this happened all the time and by the end of the day or the following day the error gets corrected and sometimes some people decided to spend the money even though they knew exactly it was a mistake transaction by the bank employee (we are only human not a machine and makes mistakes) We will reversed that transaction even if you already spent the funds and you are liable to pay the bank back or face jail time. It’s called stealing. Same if the employee made a mistake and withdraw funds from your account by mistake don’t you want the bank to put that funds back in your account?

How could they "spend the money?" You're not getting it. She didn't have 99 billion ADDED to her account. She had 99 billion dollars taken OUT and overdrafted. In other words, the error means the bank is saying she owes them 99 billion dollars.

I'm looking through the comments and it is astounding that folks don't know the difference between a debit and a credit! That little (-) minus symbol means YOU owe them where that little (+) symbol means THEY owe you. Anyone who is confused by the difference........................................enjoy poverty!

If married the account flows to the spouse by law. Save your relatives grief and fill out a TOD document long before you die so there is no probate and the account goes to who you name.

It's not a real number. Banks like to just fill it with -9999999999999999999999999999.
    That happened to me too.

It's negative 99 billion which means she owes the bank that. In all reality the bank does that on purpose until they establish beneficiary. It's a made-up number that's large enough and obviously fake so that the account cannot be used until they can legally release the account to the next-of-kin.

Withdraw the cash and buy an island.

the island then get confiscated by the bank and possible prison time for fraud.

You can't withdraw debt. It's a NEGATIVE 99 billion deficit not a credit

Take the money, deposit it into another bank and get a loan for bigger amount with initial deposit as collaterall. Or use a portion of the money to buy gold, crypto, jewellry, devices and watches in order to sell for a profit. This means you essentially made money with other peoples money and are able to pay the bank back while keeping the extra
