MS-01 is more to replace the MP 10, and the TE-01 is more to challenge and compete with the MP-44. I personally like MS-01 better, bulkier, more accurate, more articulation.
While I won't argue with you liking ms better, he is definately more toon accurate than te.
If you compare TE to the animation model it's actually more cartoon accurate than the MS one though. MS-01 is almost too pretty to be really fully cartoon accurate.
But I can understand why people would like MS-01 better with the bulkier look, and it's certainly got an edge where it comes to articulation. Plus it combines a mostly cartoon accurate look with elements from the original G1 toy, such as the silver panels on his chest/cab.
MS-01 is a fun toy but TE-01 is such a much higher quality and feel.
Once you have it in hand, you can’t deny how impressive it is.
Transform element optimus prime looks husky in the right areas while flat stomached and streamlined in the right areas. He looks like he came straight out of the 80s g1 cartoon series.

I like both. I have Magic Square but I'll probably get TE as well. MS is my favorite though.
yeah i love the TE-01 i have both but my favorite is the TE-01. nice review. like most collectors have said wish there was an ab crunch to give him more articulation. op leader has the more Animated blaster riffle compared to the MS.
Thanks for the review. I just picked this up on eBay. Although I will keep him in Bot Mode, TE-01 has the best Truck/Cab mode. With Magic Square and MP-10 you see his pelvis in Truck mode which ruins the illusion of being a truck while Transform Element nailed it.
I would say, for the price, the transform element Optimus prime (especially with the new head sculpt from the 2nd release) is the best one. It looks almost exactly like the G1 cartoon design, the proportions, the aesthetics, and the accessories. The magic square takes too many things from mp10, and is very stylized (If that’s what you prefer, that’s great, this is just my opinion). The mp44 is great for toon accuracy and proportionality, and I would even say it is more accurate in some places than transform element’s prime. But I think it is WAY too expensive, even for a masterpiece figure of its level. Transform element, in my opinion is the best buy.
It's honestly a hard choice for me. I actually like the stylized look of the Magic Square, especially the head sculpt. The figure has a nice smooth build, and I don't know what it is but the plastic looks like it has that soft texture to it.
But the Transform element is *undeniably* more animation accurate, and that matrix chambers accuracy blows MP 44's out of the water. But theres something I can't shake off that whenever I look at the Transform element it just feels cheaper than both MS01 and MP 44. Maybe it's the way the glossy sheen looks, or how some details are a little too smooth, but when I compare videos and pictures of MS 01 and TE 01, TE 01 just runs me the wrong way. But still a great figure
As for MP44, honestly, without the Trailer and more importantly the voice gimmick, I wouldn't even entertain the idea of choosing that over these. All the lines and folds present from the overly complex transformation really drag down the aesthetics of the figure in both modes...
Both better than Takaras horrible backpack. $450 no thank you. I have both of these btw.
At least MP-44 have one hell of a kick-ass trailer.
I bet that some Chinese smart-ass will make a KO of that trailer and it's accessories alone and make it OP-Leader/MP-10 compatible.

Magic square version is more fun to play, easy to transform and has more flexible articulation than TE01..MS01 is better Prime for me.
I had bought the Magic Square first but it wasn't toon enough for me so I decided to buy this one and I have to say I like it much more than Magic Square. You have to see both figures in person to really see how nice the TE version is. TE has better toon proportions and some real nice heft to him. Both are nice but I kept the TE version.
There is something I’ve noticed about the magic square version as well as the MP 10 that I think no one else has noticed. What I’ve noticed about the magic square and MP 10 is that their design is based off Optimus prime in the dream wave comics.
I figured this because there is more color and detail on them, and the fact that MP10 can house his gun in his backpack like he did in the dreamwave comics. Assuming anyone else remembers that
I kinda see what you mean, and I like the stripes on the cab for MS. But overall, the DW comics had those kinda strange proportions and a unique head, it's a little hard for me to see it as Dreamwave inspired (like the first Revoltech is).
In my opinion the TE-01 is more like the Transformers 1980s animated film and the Magic Square is more like the cartoon. (mainly because of the grey stripe on the cab)

G1 toon prime didn’t have the grey stripe in alt mode.
The only problem for me personally is that the TE-01 is harder to transform than the Magic Square one. Granted not as hard as MP 44 that figure is not just expensive but a knigtmare to transform.

I love MS-01. Totally happy with it. Love the colors and proportions. To me, it’s perfect.

TE-01 wins, the end. That being said, The WHITE Ultra magnus inspired color scheme version of the MS-01 is amazing. If you're going to get a Magic Square Prime, get that one.
Have you seen Bobby Skullface's comparison between these 2 too?
In vehicle mode I like TE better, but in bot mode MS blows him away.
I've recently started watching the G1 cartoons again, and the white parts of TE are actually too light, MS might be too dark, but is certainly closer, I have so far not seen a shot in the cartoon where they really were white.
The extra weight that TE has might not be beneficial, if it's high up it hinders poseability, if it's in the legs it boosts poseability.
I do some toon screen shot comparisons in my main review video on TE. Personally, I found TE closer to toon, but both are good figures.
In general TE is more screen accurate, but I'm uncertain about the colour of his tights, I also think he looks better behind the windows in his chest, but purely going by images and reviews I think I like MS better.
I don't know which has the better price either, but if I'd buy a new Optimus Prime right now it would be MS if the prices are similar.
TE-01 destroys MS-01. I have the first run, which lacks the second head (although I have that on order as it's a better sculpt) and has fewer teeth on the hip ratchets. It also has silver die cast knee ratchets, rather than the blue nylon ratchets used in the second run. Of those things, only the hip ratchets annoy me, but not enough to buy another copy. Honestly, it's a great animation accurate Prime. The lack of thigh swivels is lamentable, but it doesn't prevent it from pulling off some nice poses. The alt mode is really nice as well, although I display my figures in bot mode.
I still think MP-44 looks good from the front and will undoubtedly offer the best articulation, but that backpack and insane RRP have discounted it for me.
I choose the left one.

You got the version 3, not version 1. Version 3 has brighter colors, tinted windows, and a red gun.

@dan14thprime, how come you never mention the fake grill/abs that all MPs and TE01 have? MS should have some bonus points of having real abs/grill, as well as not having a bumper ass.
But the trailer hitch is backwards...
OP Leader (TE-01) is the best alternative to the overpriced MP-44.
MS is nice, but the difference between him and MP-10 are too little to really matter.

It’s obvious it’s magic square reasons: easier to transform more cartoon accurate has more accessories barely even any kibble in truck mode one piece of kibble in robot mode has more of a cartoon color head is more accurate and has more articulation on the fingers

Te-01 is way more accurate, te has no kibble besides the bumper, and absolutely no kibble in truck mode. It doesn't look like robot feet in the back. Te also has a much better cartoon color, its brighter and doest have the gray stripe. You can still like ms better, but most of your points are wrong.

You completely missed the extreme amounts of shoulder poseability in the Magic Square's shoulders and the complete lack of it in the OP Leader, and simply put every joint they share the Magic Square's copy goes abut twice as far.
And if you like toon accuracy I'd argue that all the needless sculpted detail on the OP makes it significantly less toon accurate in that mode.
Lastly I can't fathom how you can like the OPs transformation. Smooth? That craps clunky fiddly and annoying. Got the thigh panels are the stuff of nightmares, and getting everything to fit into the truck mode is a PAIN.
Sure the MS wrist flaps are a little annoying, but the rest of it as an absolute Joy.
So while the MS wrists can be a faff, the OP is nothing but a faff.
To each his own. To me MS is a slight improvement over a 10+ year old MP-10. OPLE was something innovative and big step forward. What you prefer is your choice but clearly innovative design, lines and engineering are more in the TEOP and MP44 camp and MS feels dated 🤷🏻♂️ Thanks for checking out the video 🤙

It's perfectly OK for you to like which ever one you do, but your arguments against the Magic Square don't hold water.
@@PerspectiveEnd I’ve said it many times before. I don’t need one to “win.” I’ve owned them all at one point. TEOP and MP44 are clearly, objectively on another level than MS. It’s clear in toon accuracy, especially sculpt, and light years in innovation. Just look at leg transformation, MS still uses old MP10 style. CHUG figures these days are more innovative. Nothing subjective about that. You’re welcome to your opinion, but it’s in the minority. The community clearly has TEOP and MP44 as top two. I’ve done enough videos and seen enough comments to gather that. You have to back up and make an overall assessment. No one’s saying MS is bad, or doesn’t have its bright spots, but just not on the same level overall. That’s all. 🤷🏻♂️ 🤙

They are Objectively significantly worse than the MS.
MS Poses better. Flat out. No arguments can be made to the contrary.
Forward Butterfly, backwards butterfly, Abb Crunch, Back Crunch, toe up, toe down, knees elbows and shoulders with miles more range.
There is no arguing that point. None.
Transformation is more logical with fewer fiddly steps and it's less likely to break with better quality plastics.
Sure the OP has cast metal parts but metal doesn't automatically mean strong nor good, and that metal waist on mine has put stress marks on the crotch where it drops down.
The amount more the other two look like the cartoon is Maybe 5%, but that parts subjective so we shouldn't even try to argue that.
But there is no denying that at the very least the MS is Leagues more accurate than the MP10.
The simple fact of the matter is, you are putting an excessively high value on something that does not intrinsically have value.
Yes it is perfectly fine to love that figure, if you HATE the MS that is PERFECTLY FINE,
*But* the MS is Objectively better at posing, Easier to Transform, made out of superior materials, I mean just look at the difference of rubber used for the tires to tell which one spent the money on quality materials.
I say all this as someone who owns both and doesn't dislike either of them, in any way.
The MS is physically objectively the superior one.
Get these two and you will only spend not more than $250, which is more cartoon accurate in my opinion. MP44 with a bulky back pack not cartoon accurate, which is too much for a $450 price.

Personally I prefer the MS. I am not a fan of extra front grill for robot mode. I takes away the essence of transfoming the original parts of the vehicle mode.
While I also like not having a fake grill, sometimes you have to make sacrifices for a better robot mode, which is what most masterpeice optimus' do.
I'm bummed you did this review after the new head sculpt, but didn't include the new head sculpt. The original sculpt (that you show) was easily the worst part of TE-OP and the new sculpt that you didn't show is THE killer improvement that put TE-OP in the best of the best. Either way though, its the best Prime.
