My brother has a 70' Boss , he has had it for almost 50 years, in 75" he wanted to sell it and buy a 74" Corvette; we were at the guy's house with the Corvette and I kept pleading with him saying " you can buy Corvettes all day but you will never buy another Boss".Needles to say he kept the Boss.

Yeah, the Boss *maybe* could've been driven faster, but especially while it was behind the Porsche, you could tell it was driven with respect for fellow drivers in what is basically a gentleman's race. Very nice drive!
As an aside, the lack of paying attention in the paddock by all the bystanders was disheartening, but it must've felt good to flex that 302 at them.

Never say die Tommy. Your life isn't over so long as you're still walking and talking. You don't have to be a millionaire to build something fun and competitive. There are literally dozens of different racing classifications you could get yourself in to fairly cheap from a race car standpoint from stock all the way up to these monster balls Trans Am/SCCA super cars. At the end of the day, it's all about being fun, competitive and having some cool stories to tell the grand kids when you're rocking on the front porch later on in life. Whatever you do, don't give up on a dream just because you don't have tons of cash laying around. There's always a way. You just need to find it.

Every "everyman" racer i knows starts out with track days at a local circuit. The usual recommendation is a convertable Miata (750-1500). Then you go through it and put a cage in (bolt in). Get some tires and go rip. That is the quickest way to get onto a real racing course and start learning on a budget. I was told the Miata will teach you the correct driving line because of the low power. It will teach momentum driving and that is what makes the fastest guys fast.

Cool racing - watching nine years later. It’s a historic race, so I would not expect the drivers to go all out or be experienced in their respective racers. No one wants to crash these cars. 😀

Bruce Canepa is a retired racer and is now a car dealer NOT some high-powered race shop in Germany. That 934.5 you see here is HIS 934.5 that HE really raced and won in on this track! In '79 Porsche gave him a new 935 for the '79 season. Let's just appreciate these bad ass racers for taking their prizes around this track and allowing us to watch!

Not sure what your point is here Will. Bruce has retired from professional racing, but he is still a very competent driver. The Rolex Monterey Motorsports Reunion is not a professional event, so it is rare that a professional driver participates. The car Bruce races at the Rolex Reunion is the 1979 Porsche 935 that was built in Germany and is a 'Werks' car. In fact it was the last 935 to be built in Germany, so it is a very special car. He did win an IMSA event at Laguna Seca in 1978 in a Porsche 934.5, which says alot about his ability to drive.

The black Porsche Interscope Racing 935 #0 is the Danny Ongias car. I remember him from Daytona several years in the early 80’s. He was fast but he ran hard and broke it. He was a Hollywood producer.
Love the Boss 302’s. High winding 4-bolt Windsor 302 with 351 Cleveland heads.
Back in the 935 turbo days, it was hard to beat the knob !

The only music in this is a V-8. Nice video. As a Biker I now understand the Corkscrew. I understand this is a vintage race, so the pace may be off, but this car was much faster in the corners.

I have heard of that group. I shipped a 1970 Mustang Trans Am car to New Zealand in 2010 and raced three weekends with Dale Mathers of Coastline Automotive. We ran the inaugural Bruce Mclaren Festival at Hampton Downs, Pukekohe and Taupo. The Taupo weekend even was with the Central Muscle Cars. I was very impressed with the skill of the drivers in NZ.

Say what you will about today's racing with computer controlled cars and C.A.D. designed bodies but these 60's-70's are where the real excitement's at. You could almost hear the guy in the black Porsche screaming at his crew "somebody get this guy off me!!!!". Lmao. I love the nostalgia races and these old car Trans Am races.

I love Laguna Seca. I’ve been there twice back in the early 90’s for the US Motorcycle Grand Prix. Great track but you better find a place you like because it’s laid out inside a bowl that you can’t see around the track. Lots of elevation changes! Wayne Rainey lives just a stone throw from the circuit.

The black 935 looks like the old Interscope Racing Porsche driven by Danny Ongais. I can assure you if Danny we’re driving he’d have left everyone so far in the dust it wouldn’t be funny! In qualifying trim with the boost turned up these engines made close to 1200 hp! They could turn an 9.80 et in the quarter mile with road racing gearing!

It looks like the Porsche needs a driver mod. The Mustang catches up under braking and turns and sometimes tries to overtake, but the Porsche pulls away in every straight. It doesn't look like the Porsche is being pushed as hard in the braking or turns, but I can only see what's in the video, so I don't know.
