There's no such thing as emission free driving. I have seen several reports where to build a battery powered car gives out 50% more emissions than building an ICE car.
Also there is still no response for the millions of people that wont have access to home charging especially those that live in flats and terraced streets. And on several videos I have seen such as from What Car that public charging is now more expensive per mile than using petrol or diesel.
And to reply to your comment about sub 20k cars, most of these will be about the size of a large shoe box and will be of no use to most families.

Let's define "decent range". For most people most of the time they will never need more than 50 miles of range on any given day. For most people long trips will consist of no more than 150 miles of driving during which time they will stop at least once anyway. So their car would not need 150 miles of range to be practical. Anything above 90 miles would serve all purposes. My 24kwh 2015 Nissan Leaf is now down to 70-85 miles of range and there still isn't anywhere I can't drive. So it would be very rare to find any new EVs that are actually only good for "city driving" on the basis of range. Practical range is almost guaranteed for at least 90% of all potential EV adopters. That will very soon become 100%.

@@trevorberridge6079 I'm a very specific case, but I've been looking for cheap, small EVs with a *reliable* winter range of 150 miles (by which I mean: being able to drive that distance with heating actually turned on. I'm using a "200 mile range" electric van at work which I love dearly.. except for its range, which is more like 150 miles on a good day, and closer to 100 miles if I want the cabin at a reasonable temperature throughout, in the UK winter). Because for anything less than 80 miles I... well, I almost never need a car in the first place, as it's either in my town, or a single bus journey away (or I can do without it). Oh, and yes, that range is for return journeys, because the charging infrastructure around here still leaves much to be desired.
So, as far as I can tell, I need to look out for cars with *claimed* ranges of 250 miles or above to trust them to do 150 miles in the winter 🤷🏻 and that suddenly hasn't been easy to find any more (not at low prices, anyway). But luckily that's changing; MG4 is a good start, and more are appearing, so I should be able to make a choice soon

Hyundai Model 3, Volvo EX30, Renault 5 and the small citroen (sadly not likely to see many in North America, but that is life). And the profusion of LFP batteries in bigger sizes (eg. Zeekr golden battery) looks promising too.

I think the Seagul is the most interesting. EC3 too, but first reveals left me disappointed because of the price to value proposition. I think secondhand Kia's and Hyundai's oddly become more interesting if Kia and Hyundai can improve service. Also interested in Volvo, but from early looks I felt the Vilvo's were too much a compromise for the price, cleverly hidden by heritage and style. I havent had the privellage to own a VW to date. Autogefühl pleasantly recently showed the improved Id2All showroom concept, which put a smile on my face and a serious contender if VW is serious about this model and is willing to be a little more lenient on the amount of screen UI design customizations by third parties, the rear boot V2L actually supporting up to 3,6 Kwh at 220 V and one pedal to full stop driving, adaptive cruise control and excellent lane assist and 300 kilometer guaranteed all season all weather minimum range between 10-85% soc, even at 80% state of health battery is standard at 20000 euro sticker price, would be heaven.
