Great work on the comparison. One thing I wish more people would do is point out testing with lower game settings. I know it gives a great baseline to test in standard "high/max" settings, but on things like the 6GB 3060, it's going to tank performance.
And let's be honest - NOBODY is going to notice huge (or even any) differences in 'medium' vs 'high' settings, especially when gaming on the laptop screen itself. Unless you're in the business of pausing games and taking screenshots, then flipping back and forth to find differences, lowering settings can often net real gains with no humanly-discernible differences (esp. if you're actually moving around and playing the game).

3060 is great for current AAA-games, but 3070 will probably be future-proof for at least a good few years. In terms of the long-run, 3070 is the better buy, since it means you won't have to upgrade your laptop as soon as you would with the 3060.

I bought the OMEN 15 recently with Ryzen 5600H with RTX 3060 for $1349 CAD (~$1050 USD). Ideally, I did want a 5800H/3070 pair - but most exceed $2000 CAD (~$1550USD); and anything that actually hit that price point were sold out.
Part of me has a bit of buyer's remorse for not going 3070, especially with a 1440p (external) screen. That said, I couldn't muster paying $600-700 more. I figured paying $150 each for each respective GPU& CPU upgrade (so an additional $300) might have been reasonable, and was even prepared to take a 500GB hit on storage (mine came with 1TB). But >$600 was a lot.

Control with ray tracing runs at smooth stable 60fps in 1080 and with just high settings runs at 90fps (some times +100 depending on whats on screen). I have a laptop with a gtx 1060 and only 3GB of VRAM. Up until last year it may have struggled a bit to run games on maximum settings at 1080p apart from a few exceptions like RDR2 on high and 900p (Needs at least 4 - 5 GB VRAM for ultra textures), but performance overall was acceptable. After games like AC Valhalla released demanding even greater VRAM amounts, the GPU truly showed it's age and memory limitations. I have to resort to playing my games and looking at basically mud with medium textures and 900p mainly because I don't have enough virtual memory.
If it were up to me I'd go for 3070 not thinking twice just because of the 8 gigs. Give it a year or two and only 6GB of VRAM available for 3060 will make it struggle with the newest titles. The GPU will be able to hold up good framerates but you will have to unavoidably lower the texture detail and textures as well as resolution are among the settings that define your game's visuals the most (1080p is just perfect even for 17inch laptops).

Don't get your hopes up, guys. The desktop will squash the mobile by around 25%. However, with that bulky beast of a GPU, fed with double the wattage and much higher price, I still call the mobile version the winner. Hardware Unboxed did one such test and it showed that the mobile RTX3080 was just slightly behind the desktop RTX3070.

Bro i had a pc with 3060(90+15) watt. And believe it or not when compared with a 3050 ti same featured pc, it wasnt so astonishing. İt was like 50 fps against 40 fps(You expect at least 50% performance between 3050ti and 3060). So i return the pc and get my money back. And you are mentioning even lower powered 3060. 3060 with low power is nothing. Best find a pc with full powered 3060.(115+15 watt). That is where the best value for prize lies.

So basically ~9-13fps higher to rtx 3070 ( and around ~6-8fps higher on non vram bound games ) but increase of price around ~20%+
seems it is not worth getting 3070 for most people, but if u dont mind the money, then sure! go with the 3070.
but remember u can oc the 3060 also ( plus the 3060 runs cooler, resulting in a cooler system and cpu )

3060 and 3070 will have the same temps if both are at their max wattages. They are both 130w max cards, so 3070 can have cooler temps if its a max q design and vice versa for the 3060.

The rtx 3070 is only viable when its priced close to rtx 3060 options (within $200 or so, no more) since the extra vram is quite helpful. And the extra performance is nice.
The 3060's higher wattage versions (closer to $1500) surprisingly don't seem like great options.
