To all the people that are complaining about MSI laptops sucking or having bad hinges [or having bad-quality hinges]: My second job was at Dell Tech-Support for a Dell callcenter. In there we learned, among other things, that if you want a good laptop (or at-the-very-least, a good-quality laptop), you want a " *Business* "-class laptop, not a "Gaming"-laptop nor a "Home"-quality laptop nor a "Consumer"-laptop. Those are built with • bad-quality components that go bust after a few years (usually 2 years or less), • bad-quality hinges (that go bust after constant "in and out / open and close / flip open and fold-back closed" for a few short years), • less-durable materials-&-components, etc., whereas "Business"-class laptops up-the-ante on all these components (the durability of each component (including hinges, hard-drives, etcetera), and more & then some) because they assume that Businesses will pay for all this stuff whereas [they assume [that]] Consumers just--want a cheap laptop and don't really-care about the quality (--> they KNOW they overprice for things, but they justify it by saying “you want cheap (as-in Price)? you got cheap. you want Quality? get Expensive"). You can also thank el-cheapo customers like our parents' generations that were born in the 50's and 60's and [still-]think you can get a good-laptop for 100 bucks, and that 200 and 300 bucks is "Overpriced" territory, for that. (I was born in the late-70's/early-80's, by the way). I suggest, if you want to play [some] computer-games, I suggest you build-yourselves your own tower computer * (and don't skimp-out on ANY of the components), and buy a "Business"-class laptop for everything else. (Plus the gaming computer [you built yourself] will be powerful-enough to do at-your-desk all the •Word-processing, •Video-watching, •Picture-viewing, •Music-hearing, •MP3-file--hearing, •Web-browsing, •Email-checking, •Skype / Microsoft-Teams / Discord / Zoom / Google-Hangouts / Google-Meet / Google-Chat / chatting--&--video-chatting, Etcetera, stuff you do on your "Business"-class--laptop when you're on-the-road[/traveling] anyway). * Another reason why I suggested that you build your own tower-computer is because Dell, Gateway, Micron, Hewlett-Packard, and all these other computer-manufacturers/"OEM"-computer-manufacturers use proprietary-components, and it's a pain-in-the-ass getting replacement-parts--and/or--replacement-components--and/or--upgrading-components-later-on. (For example: I tried putting the PCI-card-slot modem in my mom's Hewlett-Packard tower-computer into the PCI-card-slot of my "AST "Advantage!" " tower-computer?, didn't work. Because the modem was a proprietary design and-also--a proprietary component. (But I didn't-know-that at the time)).

Maybe you’ll see this comment and be able to help. Love your videos, keep up the great work! -long time fan
You're not going to get much help out of Linus with that. This channel has simply gotten too big to regularly care about doing videos like that. However, if you search $1500 PC build 2022, you'll find a ton of videos with great recommendations. Also, keep in mind we're so close to the launch of the new CPUs, an ultimate $1500 PC build list will probably change quite dramatically in the next month. Do a quick search and there are a lot of good channels for this. Also, definitely wait and check again when the new chips launch.
almost every high end gaming laptop has one common problem other than thermals is how long will it last I've gone through 3 laptops with in the last 7 years a msi gt70, asus rog, and a eurocom sky x7c all had the same problem is mainboard failure and i think its due to the cpu out putting alot of heat in the result of the mosfets and caps getting cooked over time from high cpu temps
So true. These gaming laptops draw a shit ton of power, so over time if thermals aren't kept in mind eventually it's going to fry a component. That's why it's so important to run a temperature monitor in the background to prevent cooking the pc.
Loved my 2017 apache pro, everything from raw performance, to the weirdly good battery to the amazing keyboard that am sure is the same on this, the only downside was the build quality, hinges failed twice on me in 4 years and the casing started to randomly crack, as much as I took care of it. Internals are still great though, still beating my Asus Zenbook duo 2021 by miles, except the Msi was cheaper.
Man, i used to have an 17 inch Apache pro for almost 4 years, and not a single problem for the duration. I have replaced it 1 year ago with a GP76 Leopard and i am verry happy with this one. Very fast and powerfull. Not a single game that can't handle with a full size gpu chip.

You know what I want to see in a gaming laptop? One that can fold over sorta like a 2 in 1 so you can have the screen closer to you while you game on your 60% keyboard and mouse. Better cooling, the screen is closer for a better experience, and since they usually put the speakers on the bottom better sound too.

I always thought that gaming laptops were pretty cool, since they're portable and powerful. Well, my opinion on them has changed in the past two years. - CPU/GPU easily reaches 90 degrees - Both have half the amount of transistors than the original chip - You can't upgrade it in the future You're never going to convince me to buy a gaming laptop. I (my dad) bought (me) a _gaming notebook_ that was a BEAST... ...seven years ago. Now the screen and gpu is broken, which you obviously can't replace. Now I'm """gaming""" on a new, 1440p monitor, while still using a seven year old integrated gpu. Some 3D games run... borderline good enough, at the lowest graphics, at 20-30fps and 720p Gaming laptops are a scam, unless someone makes a laptop with an upgradable motherboard, cpu, gpu etc, that also has a good cooling system. At that point - even if something like that existed - why not buy a pc in the first place? Unless you can afford a good pc in five years after buying a gaming laptop - don't buy it, trust me.
They aren’t a scam. IMO they are like a pre-workout drink. You can buy all the ingredients and save money by mixing it yourself, but if you have the extra money, screw it. At that point just make a desktop. I get some wanna game on the go... but in most cases I feel most don't move their laptop that much to where leaving it in one spot would be terribly inconvenient. I mean thats any laptop. Ive got a low end dell with vega gfx and a 3450u and i had to already have the battery replaced once under warranty in less than a year due to heat plus buy a cooling pad because it just puts out too much heat playing even low spec games let alone some more demanding ones.
There is Jarrod's Tech full video review on this thing, including thermal map; IIRC it's not a big problem at all, but please check it out.
90% of the heatpipes are above where the keys are, and MSI Titans have amaxing cooling. No, you won't burn your fingers
Would it? Though? Or does it have adequate cooling?
@@TheMacco26 okay Jarrod we will :)
I've been using the Raider GE67 HX with the 240hz OLED and it's been pretty much the sweet spot for performance and value. So if anyone was looking for a middle tier of the Titan, I would definitely recommend the GE67 HX.
This. I’ve had mine for two months and it’s been gaming heaven! That OLED display is the undoubtedly the best I’ve ever used for gaming.
Can only say the same thing about the Vector GP76 UGS. It even have a 360 hz screen haha
I've bought 2 msi laptops in the past 3 years and not only were they loud as hell with shit thermals, they both stoped working after about a year. The were both 2k usd

I had to RMA a motherboard to MSI in February 2020 because it blank screened when i went to load the BIOS flasher and then it had just bricked itself. After I shipped it out, I got it back all fixed in a couple weeks. I heard of MSI being complete ass with gaming laptop RMAs though, and I thought that was shit how my board just bricked itself only from loading the BIOS flash utility.
I’ve never had an issue with MSI, out of 10+ purchases of their hardware, one needed an RMA, and it was handled quickly and seamlessly.
i just RMAed my msi gs75 laptop for lcd, speakers, and wifi card issues. They replaced the components, fixed it, and turned around in one day! i cant speak for their gpu and motherboard RMA but i’ve so far have good experiences with their laptop RMA.
have you seen gigabyte rma? msi rma is at least above average in the industry
Can we please ask why MSI, a Taiwanese company, is still doing business with Russia? Acer, Asus, TMSC, AMD and a bunch of others have either suspended operations or withdrawn entirely. But MSI is still doing business there. If China ever invades Taiwan, I'm sure MSI is going to care great deal whether the world continues to do business with them. They should show similar support for Ukraine.
Huh, did anyone else notice at 2:32 the screw pattern on the bottom is in the shape of an 'M'? I wonder if MSI did that on purpose.
I’ve owned this laptop for 2 months now and it’s insane. The cooling is amazing. I’ve never seen temps over mid 70s. I upgraded from a ge66 Raider. I could noticeably feel the heat coming from the keyboard but it never gave me any issues. It was a great laptop which is why I decided to go with MSI again. Don’t regret my purchase one bit.
Why didn't you wait for the 4080/90 models? We knew they were about to come out.

I work for a Watchfire Signs and out big 'Sports Signs' actually use these laptops as controllers. Whatever engineer decided to go that route makes me happy since itll be the only time I get to use one of these beast machines myself. @@shinsekai101 Dell generally have awesome support. logged a support case and had a tech onsite with replacement parts the next day.
Wait really? Asus has great support here
To all the people that are complaining about MSI laptops sucking or having bad hinges [or having bad-quality hinges]:
My second job was at Dell Tech-Support for a Dell callcenter.
In there we learned, among other things, that if you want a good laptop (or at-the-very-least, a good-quality laptop), you want a " *Business* "-class laptop,
not a "Gaming"-laptop nor a "Home"-quality laptop nor a "Consumer"-laptop.
Those are built with
• bad-quality components that go bust after a few years (usually 2 years or less),
• bad-quality hinges (that go bust after constant "in and out / open and close / flip open and fold-back closed" for a few short years),
• less-durable materials-&-components,
etc.,
whereas "Business"-class laptops up-the-ante on all these components (the durability of each component (including hinges, hard-drives, etcetera),
and more & then some)
because they assume that Businesses will pay for all this stuff
whereas [they assume [that]] Consumers just--want a cheap laptop and don't really-care about the quality
(--> they KNOW they overprice for things,
but they justify it by saying “you want cheap (as-in Price)? you got cheap. you want Quality? get Expensive").
I suggest, if you want to play [some] computer-games,
I suggest you build-yourselves your own tower computer * (and don't skimp-out on ANY of the components),
and buy a "Business"-class laptop for everything else.
(Plus the gaming computer [you built yourself] will be powerful-enough to do at-your-desk all the •Word-processing,
•Video-watching,
•Picture-viewing,
•Music-hearing,
•MP3-file--hearing,
•Web-browsing,
•Email-checking,
•Skype / Microsoft-Teams / Discord / Zoom / Google-Hangouts / Google-Meet / Google-Chat / chatting--&--video-chatting,
Etcetera,
stuff you do on your "Business"-class--laptop when you're on-the-road[/traveling] anyway).
* Another reason why I suggested that you build your own tower-computer is because Dell, Gateway, Micron, Hewlett-Packard,
and all these other computer-manufacturers/"OEM"-computer-manufacturers
use proprietary-components,
and it's a pain-in-the-ass getting replacement-parts--and/or--replacement-components--and/or--upgrading-components-later-on.
(For example: I tried putting the PCI-card-slot modem in my mom's Hewlett-Packard tower-computer into the PCI-card-slot of my "AST "Advantage!" " tower-computer?,
didn't work.
Because the modem was a proprietary design and-also--a proprietary component.
(But I didn't-know-that at the time)).
It's funny seeing the gigantic specs of the laptop, then seeing the measly 2W speakers.
Most people using this would be using headphones tbf
@@animeloveer97 Speakers as well , so fan noise is something to think about . It's excellently rare but people like me who have ear problems can't use headphones because of ear damage , it is indeed very common to use headphone , do envy for who can . The red/white gpu/igpu light is actually a common feature for MSi gaming laptops. My GS65 Stealth Thin that I bought 4 years ago has one. Now that I think about it, MSi might have some patent for it.
I wish they'd make it damn clear as to what is using what. I have a laptop and I cannot remember for crap if the GPU LED being green or white, which one is the integrated GPU and which one the discreate GPU.
Actually it can be good as a mobile workstation for AI researchers. 128gb of ram for VMs, good GPU and you can put TPU modules in m.2 slots
If the colors of the numbers when you put out the screws are which screws are the same, I love it, it's very easy to read and incredibly helpful, would love to see more of that
It's interesting how 4 M.2 slots seems like an amazing feature nowadays lol. My Alienware 15R3 from 2017 came with 3 M.2 slots as well as an HDD slot

This could be great for having a portable fighting game set-up, especially as fighting games take up more storage & require more power (see the SF6 closed beta). Price notwithstanding, of course.
12-13 years ago my cousin bought an msi or Alienware just like this. (Minus the storage and outrageous ram). It weighed like 30 lbs with the double power supplies. Personally seeing that and seeing this I’m impressed.

Also, definitely wait and check again when the new chips launch.
almost every high end gaming laptop has one common problem other than thermals is how long will it last I've gone through 3 laptops with in the last 7 years a msi gt70, asus rog, and a eurocom sky x7c all had the same problem is mainboard failure and i think its due to the cpu out putting alot of heat in the result of the mosfets and caps getting cooked over time from high cpu temps
damn, interesting point
So true. These gaming laptops draw a shit ton of power, so over time if thermals aren't kept in mind eventually it's going to fry a component. That's why it's so important to run a temperature monitor in the background to prevent cooking the pc.
Yeah, LAN parties and that laptop sounds like a great combination! 💻👍
It's a beast, I wish we see more mid-range thin and slim 17" laptops though.

MSI commits fraud. They substitute inferior components that don't meet advertised spec. Last time I bought a laptop from them they specified a high spec NVMe drive but what they actually installed was budget SATA SSD.

Wow, they were able to do this on a 17inch, that awesome and this is next on my Wishlist because of that. Loveee 17 inch gaming laptops!!

I always thought that gaming laptops were pretty cool, since they're portable and powerful. Well, my opinion on them has changed in the past two years.
- CPU/GPU easily reaches 90 degrees
- Both have half the amount of transistors than the original chip
- You can't upgrade it in the future
You're never going to convince me to buy a gaming laptop. I (my dad) bought (me) a _gaming notebook_ that was a BEAST... ...seven years ago. Now the screen and gpu is broken, which you obviously can't replace. Now I'm """gaming""" on a new, 1440p monitor, while still using a seven year old integrated gpu. Some 3D games run... borderline good enough, at the lowest graphics, at 20-30fps and 720p
Gaming laptops are a scam, unless someone makes a laptop with an upgradable motherboard, cpu, gpu etc, that also has a good cooling system.
I got the ge-76 raider last year, I’m not expecting it to last 5-7 years. If you’re mobile and want to game on the road due to your job or whatever, i know I don’t want to tote around a monitor, case, keyboard and mouse, these gaming laptops are perfect.
we need a ltt gaming channel 11:57
At that point just make a desktop. I get some wanna game on the go... but in most cases I feel most don't move their laptop that much to where leaving it in one spot would be terribly inconvenient. I've had gaming laptops, cheaper laptops, desktops, game consoles, handheld games like the Gameboy. They all have their advantages. When it comes to laptops though, you pay quite the premium for the performance.
I'm currently trying to start my career and i absolutely can't wait to buy the next one, i look at videos like this quite often heh. The next one apparently comes with a 4090 and i9 13th gen for the same price of this one. I can't wait bros. I gamed with a Radeon 530 with a (really good) i5 8th gen for too long
