Reiner's question of "Do you think there is a future for this world" refers to world within the walls. He tells Ymir that world within the walls can't protect Historia for long since it will soon be destroyed.
He was right. The walls destroyed. Titans arised over this entire territory. When titans arise over some territory, it is doomed. It's just that titans didn't stay here and moved on as if they didn't care in the slightest
An interesting thing about the "Grisha wearing glasses" is that he never wore glasses in his over 20 years of life in marley so theres a good chance that they are just for fashion reasons
Also, he‘s just over ten years older. Near- and far-sightedness get worse over time. Frankly, he’s lucky that Paradis even has the technology to create working glasses. ^^
@@ArDeeMee Yeah true, it also couldve been the fact that he was on his last year seeing as we know they start to deteriorate during then, it happened to Uri in the anime and manga and zeke in the manga so that couldve been why.
Also, Ymir isn't actually thinking she will ruin Historia's life. She knows that Reiner would be under no obligation to actually return to save Historia once Ymir was eaten. Ymir uses her leverage while she still can. So she makes Reiner try to save Historia now. It's not because she wants to see her, she just tries to portray herself as selfish to prove her resolve to Reiner. Reiner tries to feed her with promises but she isn't having it
6:45 Yes, when we got the story of how Grisha was caught and sent to Paradise we saw that during his torture session by Marley so they could learn who The Owl is he had been castrated (the anime had a higher camera angle so it wasn't visible). Yet when he made it within the walls he still had Eren with Carla. Meaning that upon becoming The Attack Titan his package came back.
@9t8268 The glasses could have also been an effect of aging or the Curse of Ymir, since he never wore glasses while he was in Marley, and we know from Uri that there's rapid deterioration in the last year of the Curse.
@9t8268 Good point. Although, I'm not sure why Grisha would perceive himself as having diminished eyesight unless it was actually happening. To give a personal example, I didn't perceive myself as having epilepsy until I had a seizure and passed out in class at the age of 16, but in retrospect, I had been having symptoms for a couple of months, and my neurologist says that the variety of epilepsy I have (or, hopefully, had, past tense, haven't had a seizure since my last surgery) was probably growing inside of my head for a while. My point is that, in my experience, an unhealthy person doesn't perceive themselves as unhealthy until they experience symptoms or undergo formal testing like so many people did during the Pandemic. It also might be early installment weirdness. I know, it's a less interesting explanation than the Platonic self-image you've come up with, but the fact is that early installment weirdness does plague a lot of franchises.
I would take Reiner's question of 'Do you think there is a future for this world' to be referring to the world inside the walls as when they go back to Marley, a new assault/mission will start to attack the walls and that eventually, the island people will be destroyed by Marley's overwhelming power
I believe one of the reasons why AOT became so big is because of the old mysteries. Always that, what the hell is going on? What will the next episode reveal.. I loved it
Totally agree! The mysteries and the well explained resolutions revealed after, if anything went underexplained or not correctly justified AoT wouldn't be what the masterpiece it is.
And on rewatching there are sooo many things in the background you didn’t notice before, or didn’t have the context for. The whole damn „herring is a SALTWATER fish“ and „what even is canned food“ went right past me. I‘m a modern girl, in a modern world… ^^;
@@ArDeeMee I never thought to question the coffee stuff... only because we had no clue about the continent they were on in the first place.... it's not like they said "oh hey we're somewhere that doesn't/can't grow coffee beans" at the start of the show or anything. Especially since we can grow coffee using polytunnels even here in the UK
16:15 That's why i like Armin so much. He was in favor of the peace talks, he really wanted Paradis to be a part of the world and he felt that they were getting somewhere with the asian people thanks to Mikasa and the resources in the island. But those doors close after the attack to liberio.
Thank you for making these retospectives, letting me re-experience the glory and little details of this series in a convenient way (with airpods while driving). Been enjoying your One Piece saga as well!
Me watching Ymir path scene for the first time: Huh, that's a beautiful visual representation of how she feels Me watching the scene on my rewatch: DUDE WTF I was spoiled and didn't even know
I think the inherited Titan memory thing is probably something that the previous Titan holders have authority over. It would make sense if Ymir doesn't have access to Marcel's memories since she is a stranger who ate him out of nowhere. Meanwhile, Bertoldt might be more willing to share his memories with Armin as they were once friends. Of course, this is all my theory/headcannon, but I think it makes sense for the most part. Especially with Grisha & Eren since future Eren picks and chooses which future memories to show Grisha.
I could see ymir just being oblivious to paradis being on an island, I don't think the cult would have bothered teaching her geography, so all she knows is she was put in a boat and brought there
Marley's military leadership knew of the false threat that the King of the Walls made as they had the Tybur's knowledge. This is why the attempt to steal the Founding Titan was even allowed to go ahead. If the threat of The Rumbling was real then the Warrior Unit would have never breached Maria to begin with. However once Reiner and Bertholdt discovered that Eren does indeed have the Founding Titan and can in some way access its powers, even if only to a reduced effect; this means that the threat of The Rumbling is now a real one. This is likely the point in time where Willy starts putting all the pieces in place to unite the world into a full scale attack on Paradis in hopes of wiping them out entirely before Eren is able to figure out how to unlock the full power of the Founding Titan and activate The Rumbling. I'm sure once Reiner and Zeke return defeated after the battle of Shinganshina Willy has to get his plans moving even faster if Reiner or Zeke told Marley how quickly Eren had seemingly mastered the Hardening Technique and what that would imply if Eren did find out how to use the Founders powers. Of course Willy's plans get shelved once the other nations learn that Marley lost control of the Female and Colossal Titans and they team up to attempt overthrowing Marley's superpower status. This forces Marley to beat the other nations into submission before they can attempt to unite all of them against Paradis instead of against Marley themselves.
@@QprahI gotta say. Willy is (was) the protagonist in this story, when you analyse it from that angle. The good guy, even. Doing what must be done to save the world.
@@Darksightkellar From the perspective of Marley sure, although if we assume that the few remarks he made mean this was always the Tybur family's plan and it just so happened to be that the Rumbling threat became real under his leadership. Him being willing to reveal the truth about the Eldians, the king, the Tybur's stolen valor and deception shows that he was trying to save the world but also that he was a part of a huge conspiracy that kept the Eldians in slavery for 100 years. At best he was a good/noble/honorable guy who was born into and continued to uphold a conspiracy that caused unimaginable suffering. If nothing else he did his duty to his family and for the world, which is respectable. In reality he and the rest of the Tyburs were probably hoping and praying that military technology passed the threat of the Titans before the Rumbling could become a real threat so that they would not have to own up to their betrayal, stolen valor and continued support of Eldian subjugation. If Willy had acted as soon as he became the head of the Tyburs he potentially could have prevented The Rumbling, freed the Eldians from Marley & Paradis and created a lasting peace. Instead he repeated the mistakes of his predecessors and inherited the generational trauma they had created. The cycle of violence keeps turning and every party suffers for it, even the ones who had for the most part made it out unscathed.
@@Darksightkellar Oh yeah for sure, the guy who says he wishes more than anyone that the eldians were wiped off the planet is the protagonist 🙄🙄🙄the guy who walked up and kicked the hornets nest that kicked off the rumbling is the hero, let sleeping dogs lie. learn what AOT is tryin to teach you, there are no heroes in war, reiner and eren were both misguided into believing they could be heroes and committed atrocities for it bunch of brain rotten kids around, actually learn what you're being told. if it were pre-time-skip it's fine because you're supposed to be misled that eren is the hero until the story nosedives into the fact he's the villain, and by the end there are no heroes or villains just perpetrators and victims of the cycle of hatred.
@@Qprah bruh, this is some imperialist propaganda take, 'say they are a threat and we need to take them out first' (becomes an imminent threat to a peaceful nation) if the warrior squad never committed shiganshina none of this would have happened, you can't blame the maine on spain then claim you were doing the right thing ffs marley were still literally operating as if it's nazi germany towards eldians, you're talking out of your ass
at 26:14 idk if that frame was talking about her life span being 13 years but that picture of 13 hands pointing at her selling her out is so very interesting. Thank you for pointing it out.
These episodes are THE HIGHLIGHT of my life. I'm so full of excitement that that is the only thing I'm willing to type before sinking my eyeballs into this video.😂
Grisha had his fingertips/nails(?) cut off before he became a shifter, they were still wrapped up in bloody bandaging while he talked to Kruger atop the walls as a regular man. We see he has perfectly functioning fingers as a doctor in Shigansina, after becoming a titan/titan shifter. Therefore, surgically removed body parts before becoming a shifter do come back in perfect condition. So I guess if you get a hysterectomy to prevent pregnancy you just have a uterus again, and can't remove it ever again unless you just choose not to let it heal after removing it again.
@@Koroto True! I just saw a reel that said Isyama confirmed it but I didn’t look into it any further. I’m still holding on to it being an “Eren, you are the father” reveal. As well as their child potentially exploring the tree. We shall see 😏 I honestly don’t think it’s possible for me to be disappointed however it ends. Truly so proud and grateful of the aot community and creators like you. Have a great day ☺️
Ymir's backstory and Paths were shown after the Basement Reveal, so Yams advanced this to Season 2 to intertwine with the whole story. No wonder the show got a 4-year gap to 2017. It really might have been an intentional delay to catch up the show with the manga.
I'm glad a person as sensible as you is doing these type of analyses for Shingeki no Kyojin. If it was anyone else, or as I've already seen, they would pick sides, point fingers, and say who is right and wrong in the story, usually stating that Eren was right and should have killed everyone. I'm hopeful for the time this series of deconstructing will reach the final arcs.
Honestly. Also it's the fact that he completely understands the message of AoT for me. He's not even a manga reader and he has more insight than all those loudmouths. Actually scratch that. ANYONE who's still picking "sides" after the attack on Marley arc has simply not been paying attention, and should have no opinion on the story, period.
The only side I‘M choosing, is the side of all the civilians caught up in the crossfire. It doesn’t matter where, all civilians get trashed, which is just too much realism in most people’s escapism. Poor suckers. They did such a good job emphasizing the true horrors of war. 🫣
@rd2680 y'know, yeah I'm with you. The anime really does show the horrors of war for both the soldiers fighting it and the civilians serving as collateral damage. At the end of the day, both in this story and irl, the innocents suffer for something they had no say in.
I couldn't agree more with the thing you said at the end that these are some of the best and most interesting episodes in season 2. Particularly when rewatching, I probably enjoy these the most out of this season, especially the conversations between Ymir, Berdololo and Reiner. Superb video as always!
6:30 they actually answer this question. Characters after there first transformation come out chiseled, even when they weren’t. This implies that Ymir rebuilds their bodies the first time they shift, making them perfect
I binged this whole retrospect in one week, caught up a few days ago. This is the first one I've watched since catching up... now I gotta wait 2 weeks(?) for my next fix. Great vid, that's all I want to say 💯
Just sat down for lunch at work and literally thought to myself- the only thing to redeem this day is a koroto video AND YOU CAME THROUGH BUDDY THANK YOU SO MUCH
Hi Koroto-kun. You have entered the parallels between the Marley's and Eldia's perspectives and just today I thought of something. We see in the first episodes of AOT that Eren always worried about a possible attack from the titans but everyone dismissed that chance, only for the series to "prove" Eren right when the attack on Shiganshina began. I think that is meant to make you feel like under those circumstances the "right" option is to attack before they do. Which you know, is kinda EXACTLY what made Marley start the attack. Moreover, AOT is framed in such a way that make the spectator feel rage against Marley and wishing, let's say, bad things to happen to them. For example, there are people saying that Marley attacked with no proof that they were in danger, but Eldia attacked as a response, justifying their actions. But in a meta-sense, _these spectators are not raging because someone they knew about_ was attacked in their own homes, but because *they heard a story about innocent people* getting murdered by some "others" with titan powers, which is the exact the perspective of the people of Marley. To summarize, AOT creates in the viewer the same exact thought and emotional procress that Marleyans went through when they started the attack on Paradis. I might be Overanalyzing Attack on Titan but I understand that is the spirit of the series so 🤷🏻♂. Anyway, peak quality as usual :)
That’s why there are so many teens in the comments of AoT videos, screeching about how Eren is „right“ to do what he does. I mean… Eren strongly disagrees with that, but whatever. There’s a distinct lack of options for Paradis, and he just accepted that fact. All of his friends are delusional about it…
But the Tyber family knew about the vow renouncing war, that Paradie posed no threat unless attacked, and never told anyone until literally the night before said attack from paradie (and largely to stoke the cycle of vengeance, no less). Furthermore the stated mission to gain control of the founder and conquer paradie might have been justified as concern that paradie would attack but politically it was for power and resources, due to Marely (which had become it's own imperial empire brutalising and lording power over other nations using titan power, not dissimilar to Eldia) seeing that titan power was declining due to technological innovation and essentially they just wanted to keep themselves on top in fear of what other nations would do once Marley could not adequately defend itself. Paradie were just scapegoats, they de facto posed no threat, higher ups in Marley knew this, still allowed the attack to happen. Like Koroto said in the video this series is a long line of escalating attacks without people properly talking it out but in my opinion the failure of the Tyber family to use any of their influence to open some form of dialogue or at least prevent the attack on paradie which would ignite a new war is the biggest and most prolonged missed opportunity for a peaceful timeline and much as I like the Tyber family/Willie's development in early season 4 thinking back their actions and attitude just rub me the wrong way since they were in the absolute best position to avert massive life-costing conflict and not only failed, never even tried, their plan only started when Paradie could attack Marley and only ended with Paradie being a scapegoat to be destroyed to unify the world and give Marley good PR.
@@lewisroach8723Yeah, the Tyber family pretends to be magnanimous, but are really massive pieces of crap who could have stopped basically everything in the series if they had just communicated better. The Survey Corps couldn't have done that, they were fumbling around in the Cave, striking at the shadows of the world outside. The Warriors couldn't have done that, they were just a bunch of children.
@@lewisroach8723keep in mind that the Tybers view Paradis/Eldia with the same distain as the Marleyans. They are allowed to live as nobles despite their Eldian blood, so they have more in common with the Marleyans than with their "own" people. They may have kept quiet about it due to either A) Marley never actually threatening the island until recently, B) them hoping that Paradis is wiped out so they never have to worry aboutit again, or C) a bit of both. I think Willie did want them to wipe out Paradis, but that obviously didn't work out.
26:18 Counterpoint: It would be probably be a stretch to assume that Armin is "mind-controlled"/influenced to such a degree just by Berthold's memories. Instead his memories probably just allowed Armin to know Annie better. At least that's what I think. Edit: Probably should have watched the full segment first.
In terms of what happens to preexisting conditions when someone inherits a titan. I assume they would be in perfect health. Geisha wearing glasses could be because he was getting closer to the end of his titans lifespan and his health was possibly in decline. We don’t see many other examples of if you would actually get perfect health but I feel it’s more plausible since they are able to regrow their entire body anyways.
Damn if I could cure myself of crohn's disease by turning into a giant and eating someone, leaving myself with only 13 more years... yeah okay it doesn't actually sound so great, and I do get the feeling titan healing may not help people's pre-existing conditions anyway
“I think that it’s perfectly fine to say that NEITHER one is justified in what they did. We understand how he got there, and it is okay to empathize with the circumstances, but that also does not mean any of his actions are to be excused” Holy shit, SOMEONE WHO UNDERSTANDS THE STORY AND NUANCES OF IT?! Seriously I’ve been saying this for years now that the whole point of the story is that war is bad, that no one wins in war, that everything in the show is framed from perspectives and that ultimately people are just doing what they feel is the right way to protect themselves and their loved ones. People hate Gabi when she is no different than Eren from season one. In fact you could say she’s a direct reflection of eren, she was there when eren attacked, her friends were crushed and her home was destroyed, maybe it wasn’t as devastating as the attack on shinganshina, but if she wasn’t given perspective as quickly as she was she’d have been exactly like eren, galvanized and focused on nothing less than the complete destruction of those devils on paradis who killed her friends and destroyed her home. She’s erens good ending.
The only difference that I see in Gabi and Eren is that she was far more radicalized, had proper training from a young age and took great pride in killing other humans. While Eren saw up to the scouts, we never see the military having a proper propaganda system. We saw them edging people into joining for lack of better opportunities (like our main trio, who where refugees with nowhere to go and the people in wall Rose looked down on them) but we never see the scouts telling people that they were trash if they didn't joined the army, like Marley did with Eldians and the Warrior Program. And Gabi, because of the dehumanization of Eldiand, never saw them as people and took pride in each one of her kills, like a hunter mounting a prey in their wall. We see that when she was telling Niccolo that she was the one who shot Sasha. Eren TRIED to keep his humanity up to a breaking point and even after the Rumbling, we never see him enjoying his kills. I agree with the fact that Gabi is a very good parallel with Eren and that her actions have a justification, with her upbringing, the culture she was raised in and her general immaturity but I can see how people can't stand seeing her in her first few appearances.
16:16 the one time I argued this was when people were saying Gabi was just Eren on the other side. I compared her more to a fusion of Eren & John... and maybe some other character. But a huge part that also separates them is the knowledge we know they have and the psychological effect of what we see them fighting. 🤔 I imagine most people who watch Attack on Titan are not accustomed to war on a deep level, and this is what we see: Eren fighting what both we and him originally believe to be mindless monsters that have one goal of wiping out humanity. Not only do both we the audience and Eren believe that, but they look like monsters... no matter what way you watch the show the Titan are monsters too you... even when we find out the tragic horrifying truth about them. We then see Gabi; our perspective is now split, we obviously see her as the enemy because we've been following Eren, HOWEVER. Gabi is fighting what she believes to be enemies (the other nations not part of Marley) and what she believes like many other soldiers to be humans that have the devils blood in them. Our knowledge and perspective as the audience is split here, unlike with Eren. But when I look past that split perspective. There's still the psychological effect of, Gabi's enemies are humans on one side, and to her knowledge very much look like humans on the other side. She's brain washed into being a victim of them or thinking she's different from them even though they share the same demons blood. But they look human. And [this is not made clear to us in the story as far as I remember, *so she could've been told otherwise,* but] That other side, those enemies have never attacked... they've only been constantly sent titans and have this very powerful weapon. Tie that all together with seeing Gabi celebrate and doing it for recognition. She is nothing like Eren in my mind. She's not Eren on the other team, and I can't see her as that. Reiner is closer to Eren on the other team. And it's literally reflected in the show.
Gabi is Eren if he had had proper military drills from early childhood on, and been forced to participate in actual battle by age 10. I love her portrayal so much. She has the same amount of fire and conviction, and when faced with the truth about the people on Paradis, her mind breaks a bit. That month on the horse ranch took a toll on her. „But then… who‘s the real enemy??“, to quote Eren.
Every time you release one of these I try to escape them because of their length but I get hooked through the first few seconds, then I suddenly realize I just watched the whole video lol
When i see the "Armin's feelings for Annie are just Bert's" argument i want to break my head on the wall. If that were true, why isn't Eren thirsting for his mom? Or Falco pining for Historia? Same thing, right? So why is one being questioned so much, but the others aren't?
You are watching a series titled overanalyzing. Knowing what we know, if makes for an interesting talking point and it is later acknowledged in the series as well - not much else to it. 😂🤷♂️ And I don’t think anyones saying that feelings etc translate 1 to 1, merely that Bertolt’s memories accentuated Armin’s existing thoughts (which also fits the bigger theme of inheritance in AoT) tl;dr its not that deep 😅
I don’t think there are any bad episodes in AoT. I’ve always enjoyed it and on my recent rewatch I wasn’t excited for Season 3 because that’s where everyone really starts to lose their humanity and I do love the main cast, but the action and story is so great that I’m happy to be watching it again. I don’t think there’s any part of the show that I don’t feel fits the mood they’re trying to create. Even these slower ones give you reveals you couldn’t fit in the action packed previous episodes.
This is exactly what I’ve been experiencing through my rewatch. All those “boring” talking episodes really dump a LOT on you (in retrospect!) it’s amazing to watch
Love this series, its always a welcome highlight to any day. The part I'm not sure about is why Reiner turns back into a titan to carry Bertholdt, Ymir and Eren after they leave the forest. In the manga chapter equivalent of S04E03 it explains the Warriors' original plan was to have the Female and Jaw titans take turns ferrying the 3 other Warriors to the wall once they were in range of the pure titans roaming. After Marcel is eaten Annie is forced to do it solo and because of that she nearly dies from exhaustion and the pure titans. Reiner and Bertholdt would have known that the Jaw titan is much faster and more agile in an open field just like it is in the forest of giant trees. So why would Reiner take his titan form after they leave the forest when doing so just ends up allowing the Scouts to catch up to them? Even if Ymir's Jaw isnt as fast or agile as Marcel's or Porco's was/is surely its still faster than Reiner's Armor? But then the original plan for 'Marcel and Annie to take turns ferrying the others to the wall' just confuses me more when I think why didnt Marley just have Pieak take them there with the Cart Titan's unmatched stamina and travel speed before returning to the ships on the same day? She is clearly capable of doing it on her own so why risk the 4 Warriors who were chosen to stay and attack Paradis?
Three people awkwardly balancing on jaw‘s back while it’s running full tilt doesn’t sound ideal to me. Also, jaw‘s energy would run out pretty quickly, since it is not fit for carrying weight over long distances. We don’t even have to talk about the colossal for obvious reasons. ^^; Female would have been the preferred option due to its stamina and endurance. But she’s not there, which leaves armored as the only choice. He’s not the fastest, but he’s strong and enduring…
I figured it out. Ymir needed to be able to exit her titan to talk to Historia and explain why she kidnapped her. She needed to be able to grab and restrain her in her titan’s claws while she talked. She could have carried them all just fine like she did when the Utgarde Castle tower was collapsing and the Scouts were all in her titan’s hair. She would have been able to outrun and outmanoeuvre any pure titans that tried to attack them with her speed and agility. Reiner and Bertholdt trusted her enough to go back and grab Historia when she could have just as easily turned on them and brought the scouts straight to them. If Ymir was carrying them all and turned around Reiner could have easily turned at that point. At no point did Reiner or Bertholdt have the means to restrain Ymir again after they let her transform in the first place, so it wasn’t an issue of trust. The only thing she wouldn’t have been able to do is explain herself to Historia in her own words.
Just in case, spoiler for future episodes. . . . . . . Considering how Armin lost his entire skin and likely considerable parts of the underlying tissue and muscles, before being given the serum, I think it is very likely that becoming a titan does regrow all the bits that the person's body lost prior. But that still leaves issues like a humpback or blindness that the person was born with. Or things like poor eyesight in general, since it's not something missing, but the shape of the lenses and the shape of the eyeball not fitting together. With Grisha's glasses, I'm not sure he actually needs those. It would not be surprising if people simply expected him to wear glasses as a doctor, so he picked up a pair with effectively window glas to fit better into what people expect and thus stand out less. Or maybe he got so used to wearing glasses, that it brings him comfort to still wear a pair, even when he no longer needs it. Sort of a small bit of nostalgia toward his old life, that he can indulge in, without raising suspicion. That would also be a nice parallel to his son, since we know that Zeke wears useless glasses out of nostalgia for Xaver.
i hope you keep making these. i’d love to see one about “The door of hope” or one about “Sole Salvation”. i’m a sucker for backstory’s. sole salvation is my favorite episode and zeke is my favorite character, and i will die on this hill
I love how the violence in AoT is so cyclical, with a lot of cause and effect. Eldia decimated Marley for xxxx years, so Marley sent the Warriors to Paradis and killed Eren's mother, so Eren attacked Liberio and killed Gaby's friends, so Gaby shot Sasha...and on and on, trauma begetting trauma. These people are all the same; traumatised, wronged people acting out against the immediate perpetrator without understanding the larger picture. It makes the eventual team up, with everyone deciding to put their enmity aside to break the cycle for good, so damn satisfying.
so whats the story behind erens time loop? is it actually him going back in time into his kid body where it seems everything was a dream and he is doomed to live like that forever as his own personal hell? or is it a future eren giving a past eren information as two different people? is he truly looping or is he just giving his past self information?
16:14 The thing is, it's not a constantly escalating back and forth. It may seem that way, from the perspective of an audience who has only seen things from Eren's perspective and has seen season four, but if you think about things from the big-brain perspectives of people like Erwin or Pixis, Paradis has been losing the war for a hundred years. That's not a back-and-forth. That's barely even a war. "Have you heard the news, my friends? This our *first* victory!" rings in German as we usher in the second-half of the first season. Before then, Marley and the Pure Titans have basically been crushing Paradis.
When it comes to yimir asking why didn’t they just run all the way she probably means all the way to the coast. For some reason the pure titans are unable to get to the pier and the fact that a new shifter has arrived probably means there’s a marleyan presence on the coast.
Yeah the fact that they saw the Beast Titan means there is a 2nd Marleyan infiltration group on the island. Since Reiner and Bertholdt were at Utgarde when they saw the Titan climb down outside Wall Rose they know he was clearly heading back to the wharf and would likely be leaving the island again within the next few days. This to me is the reason that Reiner revealed their identities as he did too. He knows 2/3 of the potential 3 titans not currently under Marley's command are with them on the wall and that the Beast Titan sighting means a Marley ship is currently docked at the wharf. This may be the Warrior's only opportunity to escape with 2 captives from a remote location on Paradis with a very limited group of hostiles to pursue them, with no means of doing so since they have no way to get their horses to the outside of Wall Rose to give chase. If Reiner and Bertholdt stayed under cover they would be risking Ymir outing them since they now know her identity and that she has revealed it to the Scouts, so even if she was hiding what she knows up until this point its very likely if given the chance she would tell the Scouts lots of things they don't know about Marley, the war, the titans and the world. If they tried to wait it out and Ymir did reveal their identities or knowledge kept from Paradis intentionally that could force them to try to capture Eren and Ymir under less favorable circumstances, and also risk them fleeing to the wharf with Scouts in pursuit only to arrive when no Marleyan presence is still on the island at all. I think I remember it being said in the manga that the Warrior Unit knows that Marley sends a ship to Paradis once every cycle of the moon, on the first day of the full moon (which is shown to be right at the time of the events of Season 2) To me Ymir asking why they didnt just run all the way to the coast is because she isn't aware of how the Warrior Unit needed to plan to take turns carrying the group from the coast to the walls to begin with, and since Reiner and Bertholdt dont have the Female or Jaw titans to do so they are forced to use the much slower Armor Titan. Reiner probably could have tried to get Ymir to help them before Eren woke up but he likely just couldnt trust her enough to let her agree to carry the 3 of them with her titan instead of his.
I think it's been said before, maybe someone can fact check me.. But damn.. If I'm not starting to actually get hyped for each episode of this analysis.. What fantastic work.
In regards to the 6:30 strain of questioning... logically, if Grisha didn't just wear the glasses because they were what was use to him. It would seem like they can heal any 'unnatural' injuries, while not being able to fix problems naturally occurring in the body. So something like an organ or gland being surgically removed, would be healed.
Lets go! 6:45 Also as a nerdy person I'm very interested in this as well. 🤔 on top of that, what if you illness that originates from a certain area of the body. Say a cancer in the legs of prostate. Could you just rip off or blow up your lower half and when you regenerate that's healed?
Reiner, Annie, and Erwin are my big 3 of AOT. Season 4 only solidified my love for Reiner and it was great seeing Annie finally rejoin the picture. Erwin is the goat of speeches
Ymir doesn't remember going to Paradis because every traitor that's turned titan is brought there blindfolded... the blindfold is removed immediately before being injected & kicked off the wall. They were probably blindfolded prior to being loaded onto the ship.
I think you’re missing a little thing: one of the reasons Reiner and Bertholdt treat Eren the way they are is because they don’t know how much Eren knows. They know Eren has a Titan form, but they don’t know which and they don’t know what he remembers. They’ve spent the last 5 years pretending they don’t know anything about the world outside the walls, so it’s not a stretch for them to think Eren is ALSO pretending he doesn’t know. They don’t know how he got his Titan, but they know he must have been given it by someone. They also know he had to have had the Titan before the scouts’ training since up until Trost, there’s been no chance for him to have gotten it. Theres a 13 year time limit on his life and they don’t know when that clock started. A lot of what seems like odd behaviour makes sense when you accept that Reiner and Bertholdt don’t actually know everything that’s going on. Just a few hours ago, Reiner confiding he was the armour Titan to Eren because he just kinda presumed Eren got his Titan knowingly like he and the rest of the warrior squad did. Like Eren, they’re also completely in the dark and winging it.

It's just that titans didn't stay here and moved on as if they didn't care in the slightest
plus this one was a two episode-er

“When no one but Armin would talk to Annie”
Hitch - 🥺😭
To be fair, she only talked about guys. =D
@9t8268 Thanks for the correction
@9t8268 This would make sense since we can still see every shifter age.
@9t8268If you've read The Stormlight Archives, Stormlight healing works a similar way.
Marco was a true middle man who wanted both sides to talk. Hence he became president in AOT JH.
I would take Reiner's question of 'Do you think there is a future for this world' to be referring to the world inside the walls as when they go back to Marley, a new assault/mission will start to attack the walls and that eventually, the island people will be destroyed by Marley's overwhelming power
6:50 Koroto resisting puttin an Erwin meme with “Sorry, that was a stupid thing to ask”
And on rewatching there are sooo many things in the background you didn’t notice before, or didn’t have the context for. The whole damn „herring is a SALTWATER fish“ and „what even is canned food“ went right past me. I‘m a modern girl, in a modern world… ^^;
@@ArDeeMee I never thought to question the coffee stuff... only because we had no clue about the continent they were on in the first place.... it's not like they said "oh hey we're somewhere that doesn't/can't grow coffee beans" at the start of the show or anything. Especially since we can grow coffee using polytunnels even here in the UK

He’s talking about another wall

Me watching the scene on my rewatch: DUDE WTF I was spoiled and didn't even know
this series confirms my belief that aot is the best. it’s a top 5 show of all time. Thanks for keeping the series going 🎉
I could see ymir just being oblivious to paradis being on an island, I don't think the cult would have bothered teaching her geography, so all she knows is she was put in a boat and brought there
1:30 That modem noise is sooo accurate. Poor thing is the only one who doesn’t know. 😂
15:45 the rumbling was the deterrent, marley had decided it was no longer one (they were wrong)

I love this. I love a complex antagonist, so Reiner has always been my favorite boy

Ymir's backstory and Paths were shown after the Basement Reveal, so Yams advanced this to Season 2 to intertwine with the whole story.
No wonder the show got a 4-year gap to 2017. It really might have been an intentional delay to catch up the show with the manga.
These episodes REALLY inspired my manga writing, when it comes to lore and adding mystery

absolutely love the lemmino soundtrack in the background. It just fits perfectly
So true . I'm tired of all those " Eren did nothing wrong" or " Gabi should've died " narratives .
I couldn't agree more with the thing you said at the end that these are some of the best and most interesting episodes in season 2. Particularly when rewatching, I probably enjoy these the most out of this season, especially the conversations between Ymir, Berdololo and Reiner. Superb video as always!

AOT is literally the cycle of revenge (under the auspices of defence)

I love your “overanalyzing” videos. You give me new perspectives to things and help me appreciate the episode fully. Thank you 🥰
Yet another fantastic video thanks for all the hard work you put into these
In terms of what happens to preexisting conditions when someone inherits a titan.
Those 40 minutes flew by! I always thoroughly enjoyed these recaps/retrospectives, thanks for the consistently great work 👍
Im 100% sure that Armin's feelings are Berthold's influence. He only starts talking to her after he becomes a shifter.

We understand how he got there, and it is okay to empathize with the circumstances, but that also does not mean any of his actions are to be excused”
Holy shit, SOMEONE WHO UNDERSTANDS THE STORY AND NUANCES OF IT?!
Gabi is what Eren would have been if he had been born in Marley.
I really love your AOT videos and I put on notifications to know when you post but I like everyone else would really love a schedule on your videos
Reiner: "I'm the Armored Titan and he's the Colossal Titan. So, uh, wanna go back to our crib? I finally got a PS5. Wanna play?"
That might have worked better on the 15 yo. 😂
21:03 the way you say Berthold
16:16 the one time I argued this was when people were saying Gabi was just Eren on the other side.
I compared her more to a fusion of Eren & John... and maybe some other character.
But a huge part that also separates them is the knowledge we know they have and the psychological effect of what we see them fighting.
🤔 I imagine most people who watch Attack on Titan are not accustomed to war on a deep level, and this is what we see:
Eren fighting what both we and him originally believe to be mindless monsters that have one goal of wiping out humanity.
You should really consider uploading these as a podcast too. I'd absolutely listen to every single episode
Every time you release one of these I try to escape them because of their length but I get hooked through the first few seconds, then I suddenly realize I just watched the whole video lol
Grishas fingers were cut off before he got his titan so it atleast heals open wounds
And I don’t think anyones saying that feelings etc translate 1 to 1, merely that Bertolt’s memories accentuated Armin’s existing thoughts (which also fits the bigger theme of inheritance in AoT)
tl;dr its not that deep 😅
Also, that‘s the insult Eren told Armin to push him away. Because it’s NOT true.
But the worst eposide is season 2 ep 3
Three people awkwardly balancing on jaw‘s back while it’s running full tilt doesn’t sound ideal to me. Also, jaw‘s energy would run out pretty quickly, since it is not fit for carrying weight over long distances. We don’t even have to talk about the colossal for obvious reasons. ^^;
Female would have been the preferred option due to its stamina and endurance. But she’s not there, which leaves armored as the only choice. He’s not the fastest, but he’s strong and enduring…
They probably couldn't trust Ymir enough to be in charge.
Because ymir can't face a lot of pure titans alone, but Reiner can.

Always hype for a new over analysis vid!!!
i started this series the other day! i cant believe i caught up already!! noooooooo now ill have to wait.. fab series man, im really enjoying it.

i hope you keep making these. i’d love to see one about “The door of hope” or one about “Sole Salvation”. i’m a sucker for backstory’s. sole salvation is my favorite episode and zeke is my favorite character, and i will die on this hill
We're going right up until the end 😤
I never realized the rumbling happened when Reiner was reminded he’s a warrior
Another banger 🔥 ty Koroto for the high quality content as always
Amazing video, loved the analysis, congrats!
I am LOVING these long episodes.
Yo, last night i was literally thinking “I could use one of these AOT videos.”
I manifested this.
Already can't wait for your next video on Aot, keep up the great work, good sir!
I did NOT expect a Vsauce Michael jumpscare in the middle of an AoT video lol
always love these videos man, thanks for making my day with them
When it comes to yimir asking why didn’t they just run all the way she probably means all the way to the coast.
I think I remember it being said in the manga that the Warrior Unit knows that Marley sends a ship to Paradis once every cycle of the moon, on the first day of the full moon (which is shown to be right at the time of the events of Season 2)
To me Ymir asking why they didnt just run all the way to the coast is because she isn't aware of how the Warrior Unit needed to plan to take turns carrying the group from the coast to the walls to begin with, and since Reiner and Bertholdt dont have the Female or Jaw titans to do so they are forced to use the much slower Armor Titan.
Hyped for the video ❤️🙈😭
Back at it again
I love your different names for bertholdt 👌 i snicker each time
Happy spooky month
do be spooki scary
Please keep making these videos man they’re so good
Its kind of crazy how 90.000 people enjoy watching a guy analyzing episodes of a tv show in a 40 minutes video :D
His my favorite character of Attack of Titan.
He's a complex and broken character ❤.
Sitting on break watching this and relaxing
