i am convinced all the s2 budget went into making Ymir and Historia the most beautiful in the scene where Historia reveals her name. also, it was the perfect set up for a kiss. i am devastatedthat it didn't happen
Okay so I just thought of this, but what if Connie's mom was sick and in bed when they were transformed into titans? It would explain why her titan form would appear on it's back and possibly why her limbs arent big enough to support her idk probably just a thought but who knows
I think the two smaller titans fighting each other were actually Connie's two younger siblings because they acted like two little kids play fighting and kind of resemble Connie's siblings, too.
I always assumed that every person has a kind of Characteristic "symbiosis" thing with each of the Titans, like one person would be naturally good with one Titan and gain a lot of traits that go strong with that Titan, or they don't mesh well with that type of Titan and only get partially as strong unique traits as someone else could with that same Titan. Take for example when you said Ymir was a protector through and through, I would imagine her Armoured Titan would absolutely pop-off and be a massive powerhouse/wall. So instead of playing her potentially natural role of the team's Tank, she was given the role of Glass-Canon DPS I have a theory that can support this just a little bit more. I think that the Titan forms that are able to speak (as well as appearing the most "Human-like" compared to others who've used those Titans) are Shifters that don't mesh well with the Titan they've been given. Those being Ymir, Zeke and Pieck. Zeke's beast is an Ape, the closest "beast" you can be to a human, and if it wasn't for his Royal Blood and learning to throw well BEFORE becoming a Titan he'd just be the weakest of all the shifters. Ymir is also really basic looking and has much weaker teeth and claws than the other known Jaw Shifters and is able to speak. And then there's Pieck, I won't say anything more, just use the info I've said here and re-watch the latest teaser trailer closely, you'll work it out. I honestly don't remember why I started writing all this hahaha, I swear it was relevant to something about 12 minutes in
@@HayatoFuhaku It's hard to tell, but from memory I'd say a bit yeah. I'm just gonna assume she was also not as great at wielding the power as she could have been haha
Ooh, this is a really good theory. I've heard a short summary of the compatibility theory before but didn't even think about which of the Nine Ymir would be the most compatible with, but you're right; the Armoured really fits. What's really interesting about this is that Ymir was so close to becoming the Armoured, as she lunged for Reiner right before Marcel pushed him out of the way to save him. Even more interesting when you remember that every single one of the 3 Jaw titans we've seen die have all sacrificed their lives for another, that other being Reiner, every single time.
@@lycanwoof1damn, never thought about jaws saving reiner. I feel like people, myself included underestimate what memories mean. They're not just visions
1:50 considering that Paradis is the SNK equivalent of Madagascar, which we see is in the coffee belt, showing these maps isn't really helping. The Earth in SNK is a flipped version of ours, that alone would affect the climate drastically I think. But it also rotates in the other direction, as the sun rises in the west and sets in the east. For me these two factors explain why the climate is so different from our world at same latitudes. I don't know if that holds up scientifically but it's still an answer. I have a headcanon for why Ymir's titan didn't change much when she became a shifter. It would be that the longer you stay in a pure titan form, the less the shifter form will be able to change your appearance. Ymir stayed a pure titan for 60 years, so she almost didn't change and only got stronger teeth and nails, the bare minimum for a jaw titan.
As for why yimirs' pure titan looks like her jaw titan: it would appear as if if you inherit one of the 9, then it alters your pure titan form. For instance: erens pure titan form already had its defining characteristics; green eyes and dual-level jaw. Or with armin, his pure titan was very gaunt, and even though the colossal is very different, it still inherits the how skinny armins pure titan is. When it comes to yimir, her pure titan was a normal titan, but when she gained the jaw, her titan inherited the muscular appearance, sharp teeth, and sharp claws. Just trying to add on to what you were saying
Yesss a new retrospective making the day that much better. I’ve always loved the utgard castle arc lots of what seem like small but big reveals the scouts holding of the titans and slowly becoming hopeless. The look on reiner and bertholts faces when they see ymirs Titan shows perfectly how they feel. I’m really looking forward to the next part one of the best aot moments coming up great work korotos.
thank you for making this series. I'm rewatching with my sister who is watching for the first time and getting a little refresh as well as things to watch for enhances it for me so much
The can of herring is one of my favourite scenes; so much reveal packed into such a short time. This is when I became 100% certain that Reiner was one of the shifter titans (and Bertolt too, by association), and that they came from a technologically advanced civilization. And then the coffee sank in further, a bit belatedly -- that meant the civilization was powerful enough to either trade with or conquer nations with a much warmer climate. Considering the titans directed at the walls, it was probably the latter and that civilization was invested in acquiring resources by war. The entire episode is a stellar example of show, don't tell. So, so good. Very cool that you caught onto Utgard and its meaning in Norse mythology. I also noticed Bertolt seemingly getting ready to bite his hand (only because I was stepping through frame by frame watching Reiner like a hawk; that frame was gone in a flash). But in retrospect I wonder whether we're seeing something we want to see. Because it would make no sense at all for Bertolt to transform (instead of Reiner); it would destroy everyone at Utgard.
11:35 I would throw into that theory something we learned with Rob Rice. He didn't want to be the one to turn pure titan to eat Eren. I still don't quite know why but it fits this theory perfectly. Maybe there is either some way to know how someones pure titan form looks and/or some specific compatibility with transforming titans. Meaning either Rob Rice knew his pure titan form would be gigantic and therefore unable to even eat eren. Or he knew that even if he ate eren, the fighting titan would only change specific features e.g. a bit more muscle and would still be unusable to him.
That scene with whats-her-face screaming about her dad while getting ripped apart by Titans, one of the darkest scenes in the entire show in my opinion. What i got out of those few frames was that she was regularly abused by her father growing up and that she was constantly walking on eggshells trying to appease him. Seems like that scene was a subtle way of saying she was an SA victim of her father.
Can I add about ymirs titan not looking like it transformed too much. It was said in season 4 that she had a powerfull name for fuck a weak person, essentially she was weak and not for for the jaw. There is a reason there is a brutal trial and completion in Marley to choose who are the right fits. Essentially, you need to fit the roll to maximize the effects of the special 9.
Y'all need to call your dads. Nanaba crying out to her dad was because she wanted to go back to a time when her biggest problem was dealing with garden variety punishment from her father. She had a very tough exterior, but was a daddy's girl at heart. Were all of you perfect children who never disobeyed your parents and never, ever got punished? None of you have faced actual adversity either, since you think your mind makes you more stressed when confronted with a challenge. It's the opposite, actually. This is also a series rife with complexity, yet all of you take the normie road and go "hurr durr she's calling for her dad, obviously she was abused." You can't see past your eyelids.
17:55 she wasnt begging FOR her dad, it was probably some child abuse ptsd mixed with the fear of death that caused her brain to recognize the titans as her father, both being an abusive force.

6:30 Everyone misses Ymir comparing herself to a STREET URCHIN. Urchins are as saltwater as herring, so that term would never be used within the walls.
You know I always thought that scene of Reiner catching Historia and him having a death grip on her leg as him being “anime stunned” after seeing Historia’s panties. But I think it also makes a lot more sense that he’s pissed off at Ymir for the whole Jaw titan fiasco😂😂
I never really thought about it, but Eren, Mikasa, Armin and Jean aren’t in this arc at all. Sure it’s obvious, but the characters are so compelling it doesn’t feel like anything is lacking
They were two of my favorite episodes of this show ever and they were my favorite chapters of the manga too thank you for doing this. I interpreted the promise scene a little differently though. When Ymir asked Historia to promise to take back her name, I thought it was then that Ymir told Historia that she was a Titan, and she trusted her to not tell anyone until the day came that she had to reveal it to everyone. That was the promise, to reveal her secret when Ymir did and take back her name. It's like a you jump, I jump kind of thing. I thought during the transformation scene, Historia was lying to everyone about not knowing about Ymir's secret. Your explanation makes way more sense, but that's the interpretation I knew until now.
Reiner asks Historia if she knew that Ymir was a titan while the castle is still standing and she responds no, so unless she lied then she did not know about Ymir's titan form. (Also makes sense why Ymir tries to make her not see when saving her and Daz.) While not canonical, your interpretation is still interesting.
The greatest "Holy crap" moment I ever had when thinking about clues and hints in Utgard was that Reiner outed himself by knowing what herring was even though herring is an oceanic fish.
Finally caught up to the anime, I read up to the ending of the manga after seeing the scene that plays right after the last cour started in a meme and just binge-reading it in a night

This is my favorite series on TH-cam at the moment. I always go to your channel to check if there’s a new episode. Great work 👍
Love this series because it gives me new appreciation for things I hadnt thought of. Aot is a stroke of genius👌🏾
You could also 'activate the bell' so you get notified once a new video is out.
(As the majority of TH-camr content creators will tell you in each of their videos, lol.)
i am convinced all the s2 budget went into making Ymir and Historia the most beautiful in the scene where Historia reveals her name. also, it was the perfect set up for a kiss. i am devastatedthat it didn't happen

@@johnfischer_2 what exactly is weird in noticing the smoother animation and acknowledging the characters' relationship
I agree, for me theire relationship was so out of place and didn’t make sense, that it maaaybe could be they love each other romantically.
Eww hell nah. They are both girls. We don't need any of that trauma induced gayness here
I liked that most of Eren's enemies are Titans that he knew.
Okay so I just thought of this, but what if Connie's mom was sick and in bed when they were transformed into titans? It would explain why her titan form would appear on it's back and possibly why her limbs arent big enough to support her idk probably just a thought but who knows
I get butterflies all over again reliving these epic moments through your retrospective analysis 😁
I think the two smaller titans fighting each other were actually Connie's two younger siblings because they acted like two little kids play fighting and kind of resemble Connie's siblings, too.
Utgard is one of my favourite early episodes, been looking forward to you covering it.
2:12 Why the hell does it continue to spin after I paused the video to read the meme. This is one of the best illusions I have ever seen
I know right!! That thing had me stun locked 😂
So instead of playing her potentially natural role of the team's Tank, she was given the role of Glass-Canon DPS
I have a theory that can support this just a little bit more.
I honestly don't remember why I started writing all this hahaha, I swear it was relevant to something about 12 minutes in
Interesting theory, makes a surprising amount of sense
Is Lara's Titan that different from other Warhammer Titans, though?
19:19 It also snowed at the end of Episode 3x22 when Armin was narrating of how people can go back to Shiganshina.
1:11 Those two small Titans are said to be Connie's siblings: Sunny and Bean.
I can see the resemblance. lol
That scene were Reiner says to Berthold am not going to die here am going home is GREAT ❤😊
Mother fuckers really do be like "Historia and Ymir were just good friends" lmao.
AoT was one of the most fun to rewatch. There are just so many hints, but they are so well done.
I've watched the show, I read the Manga, and I just binge watched this whole series in 2 nights. I have nothing left...
Absolutely love this series Koroto. Keep up the amazing work, Ive literally been waiting day by day for each new episode!!
I can’t be the only one who thought 27:19 Reiner’s face was from accidentally seeing up her skirt lmao
I believe it was confirmed in season 4 that those two little titans are connie's little brothers, which is just sad and morbid in so many ways.
thank you for making this series.
Thank you for the video! Can’t wait for the next. This is an amazingly detailed aot series, all compliments to you Mr Kotoro
Can't wait for the next retrospective. Truly one of the biggest plot twists of all time.
It's 3AM, oh well it was worth it, I seriously do enjoy these videos and I'm glad you continue to make them.
17:55 she wasnt begging FOR her dad, it was probably some child abuse ptsd mixed with the fear of death that caused her brain to recognize the titans as her father, both being an abusive force.
You’re one of my favorite TH-camrs at the moment. Such high quality content. Please keep this up!
Did anyone notice Bertoldt tried to transform when Ymir brought the tower down?
I didn't and I'm glad it's pointed out
When I watched it the first time I didn’t even notice 😑. After rewatching, i was slightly annoyed at myself for not noticing right away lol
Please tell me he didn’t miss that in the video
@@smallfryskilledge1550 i mean i thought it was implied that i did see it in the video, and didn't notice it before

I just cant believe how dense some of AoT scenes really are! Thank you for the analysis!
My week has been really tuff recently even with my birthday being yesterday but this really helped me cheer up thank you so much man💯
6:30 Everyone misses Ymir comparing herself to a STREET URCHIN. Urchins are as saltwater as herring, so that term would never be used within the walls.
Good point.
These retrospective videos keep me going
You know I always thought that scene of Reiner catching Historia and him having a death grip on her leg as him being “anime stunned” after seeing Historia’s panties. But I think it also makes a lot more sense that he’s pissed off at Ymir for the whole Jaw titan fiasco😂😂
every time you upload a new one of these, my entire evening is made
Blink and you miss it
Aka I always miss it, everything.
Even the ending song my brain did not process
This is the best series on TH-cam right now.
I've been waiting what feels like forever for this
One of my favourite series on TH-cam!!
27:03 this caught me so off guard lmao
"Reiner and Burrito"
Awesome vídeo hás always! Thanks for the episode
This was so goood!!! Great video!!❤
I never really thought about it, but Eren, Mikasa, Armin and Jean aren’t in this arc at all. Sure it’s obvious, but the characters are so compelling it doesn’t feel like anything is lacking
9:58 " Opens a whole nother can of worms"...
What a missed opportunity...

@@Koroto speaks to the quality of your content my dude, love any form of retrospectives but yours have a nice flare if you will to them
They were two of my favorite episodes of this show ever and they were my favorite chapters of the manga too thank you for doing this.
(Also makes sense why Ymir tries to make her not see when saving her and Daz.)
While not canonical, your interpretation is still interesting.
Let’s go, love your content!!! Always makes my day :)
Many thanks, glad you're enjoying it as much as I enjoy making it! ♥
Wow I just watched all of the previous videos so I'm lucky to have a video uploaded now
Gold quality content, as always!
I love these breakdowns!!!
The greatest "Holy crap" moment I ever had when thinking about clues and hints in Utgard was that Reiner outed himself by knowing what herring was even though herring is an oceanic fish.
Zeke had no idea paradise was unaware of the outside world and therefore thought nothing about leaving evidence
Just stumbled across your channel! Excited for a music analysis video
Finally caught up to the anime, I read up to the ending of the manga after seeing the scene that plays right after the last cour started in a meme and just binge-reading it in a night
I love this series so much. It makes me want to rewatch AOT for the 3rd time
Love these videos, there was one little mistake though, at 15:35 you make a remark about the morality of the soldiers on paradise, where they still see Annie as a fellow soldier. However, Connie is not yet aware of Annies reveal and therefore still has no idea of potential moles among the soldiers.
i always viewed the line about being sorry to her dad hinting at him being abusive towards her and being torn apart bringing up her past pain
The Reiner and bertholdt reveal is the greatest betrayal scene I’ve ever seen and I LOVE the soundtrack it’s perfecy
Love your video. Would love if you were to explore why Ymir left with the Marley group. Of all of aot, it is the point I still cant get my head around.
That "Bury the Light" bit killed me ☠️
same, didn't expect vergil to come out of nowhere
Glad I’m seeing these man you are putting in insane amounts of work! One piece vids are so good too man gotta keep going!
Those episodes went way over my head when 1st watching, but damn that was satisfying storytelling
I always felt those 2 titans fighting were Connie's 2 little siblings, it showed them, they came from they village the titans spawned from and they are small and acting like kids
32:00 And she's correct Ymir would've gave them access to the information Erwin was searching for there basically would've been no need to even go to the basement
Was waiting days for you to make another video of AOTs thank god
Thank you for this new video od yours about attack on titan, I love them
7:07 something that paradis *CANNED* produce
Love the lofi in the back it's some of my fav lofis ever
It is only now, after almost a decade that I realised where Isayama got the idea to call that Castle "Utgard": Utgarda-Loki, the Jotun Giant King that tricked Thor and Loki when they travelled to Jotunheim.
Kratos was there too!
29:58 The titan that threatens Historia looks like the Ymir cult member 31:56
I'm in my 5th viewing of AoT and currently on episode 28. Soni guess it's my concurrent 6 viewing with your videos.
Thank you for the overly analytical itch I love scratching.
I absolutely love this series. Thank you for all your work!
23:51 the meme made me laugh for a whole minute. It's too accurate
