I haven't watched the video yet, as it has been only one minute since it was posted, but I wanted to use this fresh comment section to thank you for these videos. Attack on Titan has had and still has a great amount of influence on my life and I like seeing other people be as enthusiastic about it as I am. Thank you
I agree strongly. I have been personally trying to take Levi’s no regrets philosophy into my own life to decent success, so I hold both the anime and this over analyzing series close to my heart.
The Bertholdt body thing was actually retconned in S3. When Bertholdt & Reiner were talking during the Marco flashback, there's a still image of Bertholdt flying away & it shows his remains in the background
Its crazy how much this episode had so much historical foreshadowing to Eren, Mikasa and Armins roles in the story. The dialogue with them and Hannes, alongside the soundtrack, is truly beautiful.
Wow I didn't know about Reiner and bertholdt's conversation until now, thank you for this, just listened to the whole thing and even though it was pretty much the same thing that was mentioned when the scouts were chasing the Armored Titan but man that was heart breaking to listen to.
AoT is such an interesting story because I've been obsessed over it for nearly 6 years and there are still little bits I didn't connect but then suddenly realise just by the thumbnail.
Oh yeah, I keep learning new things all the time, and I've been watching/reading since 2013. There's so many cool meanings, comparisons and dialogue bits that always surprise.
It’s not a plot hole-marleyans train Titan warriors to hone their skills. It takes longer for Titan bones to evaporate, so bertolt trained specifically to burn up his bones quickly in order to stay undercover…. Wouldn’t want a colossal skeleton being found near you all the time lol
What I find crazy is that when I say the story of attack on Titan is right up there with anything from Tolkien, Shakespeare, George Martin or any other famous author people try to deny that or laugh. Easily one of the greatest stories ever told and the message will forever be relevant
Enemies inside the walls went from a likelihood to exactly the case, and enemies in the wall are what has caused things to get worse. This episode was a wake up for everyone in the show for sure.
I would argue that perhaps Bert didn't try to fully expend his titan form for a burst of steam. Perhaps the explosion of steam we saw was simply the result of the shockwave of his massive frame hitting the ground. Furthermore, would it not be a smarter tactical decision to leave the skeleton there? We've seen that a decaying titan corpse produces steam, it's like a giant smoke grenade which would make it easier to duck out of the fight and away from the Scouts in that scenario would it not?
Been really enjoying your videos my man. Even having watched/read the series since 2013, the fact that there are still so many little details I didn't catch on to, as well as cool comparisons is astounding! Thank you for bringing so much of this up!
Nice Vinland Saga "you have no enemies" drop ...if I ever start making anime analysis videos, I would try to insert that beautiful thesis/vision in every one 😂
Going through my Rewatch right now after finding your channel and starting this series and just watched this EP today so the timing of this video couldn’t have been any damn better
I wouldn't necessarily call the steam heat and body disappearance plotholes. Outside Trost, Berthold had no real reason to bother with Eren, so he might have just used minimal force to push him away, which is why he didn't get scalded too badly. And he had a very good reason to try to clean up the skeleton too. With the skeleton in the way, the lesser titans would only be able to get into the city with several minutes delay. Several mintues in which the garrison could get their act together and launch a coordinated defense, to keep the invading titans at the bottleneck and thus potentially fend off the attack entirely. But here, both issues are reversed. He has very good reasons to hurt the scouts as badly as he can, so they can't interfere with the battle below and the more debilitated the scouts get, the better their chances to escape with their prisoners, so he has a whole lot of reason to steam as hot as he can. On the other hand, the skeleton being there will not be any disadvantage to him and his comrades. On the contrary, in fact. While the skeleton and the last few chunks of meat are there, they are producing more steam, obscuring in which direction they are fleeing. Granted with the vantage point of the wall, that will only be a miniscule aid, but if there's no downside, why not. There's also the possibility that making the titan body disappear, takes up power and that by steaming so hot for so long, he just didn't have enough juice left anymore to do so... on top of having no reason to bother. Sure it would have been nice to get information in the series itself, rather than having to come up with theories, but there are ways in which it can make sense.
Speaking on Under the the Tree, the full version has WAYYY more insight on the conflict between Mikasa and Eren. I won’t spoil for anyone who wants to wait for the official release on what those lyrics are, but it’s important to note nonetheless.
I just want to say, your videos are the perfect videos to get by my shift at work, listening to you over analyzing AoT makes my job interesting again so thank you for helping me get through my day
I just found your series recently so I'm going through the whole collection and i know I'm mad late lol. But I feel like I vividly remember the Reiner - Bertholdt conversation being aired. Like, I waited to be surprised by what you said, and all I said to myself was "I remember that"
I can give 1 excuse for why the collosal titan doesn't just poof here but then also open up a different plot hole He doesn't wanna burn away the whole body cause he ate Ymir earlier and they still need to extract her, if he burns the whole body, Ymir burns to a crisp too and probably dies. But then the plothole I don't get, he fell down from the wall open mouth...where is Ymir and the random scout at? They supposed to be in his mouth...did he swallow them and then barf them up after landing? Also, car crashes are dangerous...the collossal crashing from a 50 meter drop...how is Ymir not paste at this point?
i’d like to think that the stomach didn’t get made (because his ribcage is on the wall) and thus he swallowed ymir and that random scout. i don’t think that they’re in his mouth anymore
Can see an explanation for why Bertholdt didn't make the colossal disappear is simply because he needed the cover to not be spotted even after the steam is gone. He wouldn'´t have been able to put on the odm gear whilst in his titan, so he'd have to put it on after getting out and would also have to carry Ymir with him after that, so the cover of the colossal would give him a bit more time after the steam was gone
Man attack on titan is by far my favorite anime i recently rewarched it and the stuff you notice on the second watch knowing the outcomes of future seasons its crazy
The Reiner-Bertholdt conversation comes from a song the two sing (called Alternate Drive), it's like bonus content. Mikasa, Eren, Jean, Armin, Erwin, and Levi also have personal songs. They two have bonus dialogue content, but not sure if people had uploaded those ones.
Thanks a lot for this great content!!! I like being able to enjoy each one of this videos as they come up, it's a nice way to keep enjoying of this great story for me. So I feel you're making a great story even greater by putting out the work and that's always appreciated!!! ☺
At this point, I still thought it was a faction within the wall that wanted to in store a new order. And the Reiss reveal was still a build up on those real enemies within the wall and not outside… I really wasn’t prepared for the basement reveal!
I don't think any other situation has given any shifter a reason to try and hide their titan's corpse, so we'd have no way of knowing if it was an inherent ability of the colossal or any other titan
I just now realized something I haven't seen all your episodes yet but I just now realized something. And you might've mentioned tihs before but oh well. Eren's Jacket when he was a kid and Mikasa's scarf used to be a Extremely Dark Gray/Black color in the Manga. But in the Anime adaption they were BOTH changed to the same color, red. Now in season 4 when Eren wheres his black jacket thats Mikasa is begins to not wear her scarf. And when it shows kid Eren again season four if it nots a memory but moreso when he is the paths his Jacket is black/gray again instead of red like how when he was kid in the anime. With the transition of Red to Black its kinda like the red string of fate has been broken between them. In Mikasa's song "Under the Tree" she directly says "A Bird, A Butterfly, and MY RED SCARF, don't make a MESS OF MEMORIES just let me heal your scars" Don't know man sounds kinda significant to me. Plus in season 2 when she thinks they are going to die and tries confessing plus getting to kissing him she is holding her scarf and i'm pretty sure she thanks him for it, something along that line. And Isayama also has some control over the anime I wonder... Manga Finale Spoilers Ahead: . . . . . . . . And when Mikasa kisses/kills Eren she puts her consciously puts her Scarf back on and lets also not forget the Cabin daydream when that happened IDK MAN SEEMS KINDA SIGNIFGANT-
The Titans "Bones" do burn away but in a significantly "slower" rate than the flesh. This is why people don't need to clean up Bone debris after all the Tiatan shenanigans. The Colossal Titan is specail in its regards since it has the "abilty to burn out its body" way more faster than any other titan. The bug tell when The colossal is burning more flesh than usual is when of course he causes more steam to puff out. The reason why "Berthold" still try to significantly retain a big chunk of the Tutan he summoned on top of the wall. Since Berthold needed the body to crush Eren's Titan. The only thinf from a titan that can remain "permanent" are Titan crystals/armor and the crytal pukes. But yes the Titan plot hole is "Eren should had been burnt on the Trost Colossal disappearing scene".
This was amazing how much foreshadowing there was for the characters of eren mikasa and armin in the first this was just random talk but now it hits different
The nuke transformation actually isn't one - it's later also brought up in Marley about how they had to master their transformation process in the first place (sort of like we see Eren struggle to transform at all initially), so it's safe to assume that he can control how much of his body he even manifests (i.e. appearing atop the wall with just his torso) and whether he nukes everything (i.e. Trost vs Shiganshina in S3).
Season 4 spoilers: Yup, meanwhile Armin never had that kind of training, its all was trial and error for him, so he was very limited in him abilities as the Colossal. Armin never could control it like Bert could.
Ah, another great day ❤ everytime you post, I know I'm set for the afternoon! I haven't even watched it yet , but I was already super excited about this one!
Another great Overanalyzing episode. Fantastic! I’m not sure if you’ve looked into or thought much about taking care of your voice, but I just wanted to point out that getting a vocal coach is potentially an option that might help you not lose your voice. Depending on how often you do (and want to) record, it could be worth looking into. Another TH-camr I watch streamlined his content creation pipeline allowing him and his team to produce more, but he was struggling with his voice. Once he got a vocal coach, he was feeling a lot better, no longer losing his voice, and was able to produce what he wanted. If you’re finding that recording is impacting you, then it could be an option, depending on where you’re situated. Just want you to be well :) Thanks for the great content!
I notice that this video is new. Is anyone else currently rewatching the series because the English dub of the penultimate episode just dropped (9/10/2023) and the date of the finale (lol *finally*) was just announced? (11/4/2023) I must say I am respecting the intricate brilliance of this show more than ever. For those who don't normally rewatch shows, I highly recommend making an exception for this one. The foreshadowing and multilayered nuanced genius cannot be fully comprehended on just one viewing.
In actuality.. there are people who will see that leaving a trace could draw attention away from an escape in which the steam would cover B grabbing A with an escape route that could be in a building or road or etc.. .. just stretching the possibilities
Such great work on your videos! I'm so glad you don't spam your videos with paid placements. it's a blessing. I'm consindering supporting you on Patreon. Keep up with these videos please. I'm hyped for more overanalysing of rest of the series!
The Colossal Titan not leaving bones behind after the first attack even though it IS a plothole I feel that it could have taken the story in a different direction. (Very minor but may have changes in universe characters perception) like they see bones after and think "oh hey the big one kicked the bucket" which could have led to a false sense of security after the attack.
Who got outside the wall Shiganshina and checked? It's shown that Bertholdt DID leave titan remains after the attack when titan Dina missed him due to Eren's influence.
The way burritos titan is burned away to me indicates he wanted to steam up the wall to push away the ppl there, but not burn reiner and eren to a crisp. So the bottom half of his colossal cranium is still intact, working as a shield against the steam for reiner and eren.
There is a writing method used by fantasy writer Steven Erikson called "Elliptical Writing", not the omitting of object in the English grammar, but the elliptical structure of circling around the existed images and ideas and sentence structure. While you let the same "thing" appear, you can highlight how the perspectives change or develop. All poems rely on repetition. And you can achieve the poetic with the same structure: touching and retouching the existed elements of your story. So I think the analysis of the kid bullies wan't over-analyzed at all.
I have been thinking about the trost plothole you mentioned in your previous video. I guess it may be a stretch but maybe, just maybe, Bertholt had enough control over his titan to generate enough heat to vapourize all of his bones and only that. The main motive he has for doing this is because he does not want to give anything away to the people inside the walls. From the meta perspective, if someone were to remember seeing a report of the massive carcass that the collosal leaves behind after every attack and the (soon to happen) Eren transformation carcass that was left behind while protecting Armin and Mikasa, they would be able to easily connect the dots and guess that the collosal must also be a shifter. Not sure how much that would affect the story but it would definitely spoil some of the story elements for the viewer. Something which Isayama may not want to do, during as early as Trost. (EDIT: on second thought, this would have been a very very big evidence towards the possible presence of traitors inside the walls of paradis. Even people other than Erwin might have been able to pick up on this, which would have made a few of Erwin's gambles less effective.) I mean, I know it is a very long stretch probably, even for an overanalysis but I thought I should mention it here because this supposed plothole does have its own benefits. I did just overbinge on the overanalysis series and gotta say I (over?)liked it! :) So, thanks for posting these.

This is a good explanation.

Lets go, your videos are always making my day! :D
I love when you drop these videos
The way burritos titan is burned away to me indicates he wanted to steam up the wall to push away the ppl there, but not burn reiner and eren to a crisp. So the bottom half of his colossal cranium is still intact, working as a shield against the steam for reiner and eren.
2:19 LOL HOL UP, did you just call this man “Burrito?” 🌯 rip
These videos get me through work😂
There is a writing method used by fantasy writer Steven Erikson called "Elliptical Writing", not the omitting of object in the English grammar, but the elliptical structure of circling around the existed images and ideas and sentence structure. While you let the same "thing" appear, you can highlight how the perspectives change or develop.
All poems rely on repetition. And you can achieve the poetic with the same structure: touching and retouching the existed elements of your story. So I think the analysis of the kid bullies wan't over-analyzed at all.
These videos always brighten my mood, and they are so so good for when you are eating 🥰❤️
Perfect timing this is the perfect video to watch before sleeping
Gigachad Erwin is the funniest thing I've seen all day
The lil memes in between are underrated I be pausing it to read them 😭😭😭
im one of those salty ppl who never got to see any of the season 2 intro action. fan animationers please do ur gods work
I have been thinking about the trost plothole you mentioned in your previous video.
Even people other than Erwin might have been able to pick up on this, which would have made a few of Erwin's gambles less effective.)
I mean, I know it is a very long stretch probably, even for an overanalysis but I thought I should mention it here because this supposed plothole does have its own benefits. I did just overbinge on the overanalysis series and gotta say I (over?)liked it! :) So, thanks for posting these.
Super high quality video here. Keep it up! ❤
