I love how this was a tutorial about one thing, but then became a rant about several billion things required in the same sequence of events- this is what tutorials about blender need to be 😂

Hey, that last part where you transferred the swirl can be done in another way now, and can be an absolute savior for people who don't have a tablet and can't draw and they want the edges to be smooth and for everything to be very precise.
    I'm on Blender 3.3.1.
I saw a two tutorials from Blender Secrets that teach this. You can create an image, load it into Blender and turn that into a grease pencil object, turn that into a mesh, and use knife project onto any mesh you want.
Saw you don't have many videos and that it's been a year with no part two... Hoping you didn't give up on your Blender journey! I don't have a lot of patience, but I was desperate enough to sit through this long af video (I'm super spoiled to Royal Skies, Blender Secrets, and whoever made those super short lazy tutorials), and I bet a lot of other people were feeling the same. We needed the info, so we watched all of it. And we'll do better for it.
I learned a lot of valuable information here and I'm looking forward to having this work for me.

Been messing around with rigging and weight painting for about a year not and this is the FIRST tutorial that told me I can actually go into weight paint mode WITH THE ARMATURE STILL IN POSE MODE!! Legitimately a game changer 'cause I'm working with a model with several tentacles and they need some weight adjustment for sure.
    Take my like.

Dude. Oh my fucking god. *YOU SAVED MY LIFE* . NOT EVEN JOKING.
I had a very high poly model commissioned. I was fucked, because it was unriggable. I had lower poly versions made and made THOSE even lower poly via the decimate modifier. I was fucked for a long time. Here I am sitting with a highly detailed model and I have this shitty low poly version (good to animate with, but looks like ass). I tried transferring the weights over, didn't work. Tried using the Shrinkwrap method, didn't work. Even tried using the Data Transfer Modifier not too long ago (when this video wasn't up), and it didn't work...
Then your genius ass comes walking through with this video. This beautiful video.
Dude, it worked ABSOLUTELY *PERFECTLY* . I just cannot thank you enough man. THANK YOU.

@@GameAbuseStudios Dude. I'm talking an ABSURD amount. I transferred weight data from a low poly some 40,000 poly model to a high poly 4.5 MILLION poly model. That's how incredible this method was. I'm working on my animation right now, and it worked like an absolute charm.

Yep. There's nothing like doing a.....I dunno, 20, 30, 40-step process, where every step has to be practically perfect in every way, else the result won't be what you want; then, finally getting to the end, and realizing there's one more asinine little step you forgot to do. Blender is one of the reasons I have no hair left to pull out. But then you look at the results, and go, "Wow."

  • @pitched7401
    @pitched7401 3 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

I love the in depth explanation, makes this tutorial outstanding. However, I don't think Vertex Weight and Vertex Data are the same thing. Vertex Data is any Data stored on the Vertex/Point domain. Weight is a specific Attribute/Type of Data. With Geometry nodes for example you can store any custom Data on the Vertices, but this is totally unrelated to weight. In the use case of the modifier, it's probably the same tho.
Edit: Sorry, just noticed you said the exact same thing in Part 2 xD

I failed to transfer the morphology (from one character to another, vertex, edge and face).
I want to do this since the target model was linked to a whole animation set, a skeleton and a whole bunch of other stuff and I want to change the model to another that I create without having to start from scratch, so copy the topology . Besides, if there's an addon for that, I'm interested.
That said, I learned well thank you, I'm still going to watch the tutorial again from beginning to end in case it seems by far the most complete and relevant that I've seen so far, which translates inevitably by an error or misunderstanding on my part.

I can feel some of the frustrations but also I don't expect such elaborate free software to have its most advanced tools documented in a newbie friendly manner. Not to say they shouldn't bother but also to say chill, and take the W on figuring it out. Maybe submit some of your first-hand newbie-friendly knowledge to the open source project's documentation?

Hey dude, so I actually had another idea I wanted to try out. Creating hair and importing it to Unreal was super hard, I wonder if it would be possible to create hair with a particle system, convert that to a mesh, use the solidify modifier to extrude the strands, then with your hair mesh selected you can use this Data Transfer Modifier method to add the fur to your mesh and have it move flawlessly!
Or you can create your hair with hair cards following similar tutorials. But the basic idea is, I wonder if it will stick to your mesh and armature much like how it did with my high poly model. Anyways, just some food for though. Gonna try this technique out soon. Great stuff man!

I'm not telling you this to be that jerk, commenter. I just want to let you know that it is good. I know, not everyone will take it this way. I just want to see more of your videos and hope you talk what I take it as constructive. You may now push back on my critique now.
