I am from India and I have just started on these lessons...I must say that I have never met such Effective teaching of a foreign language.
I am living in Portugal now for almost six years and my Portuguese is still very bad. Living and working every day with English speakers. No incentive to learn Portuguese, but I am personally embarrassed that I am not fluent by now. I hope your lessons will inspire me to learn! Thank you.
Good luck, Paddy, decide on your goals, make them small and realistic at the beginning, stick to them, and don't give up. You'll get there, nothing can stop you!

Don’t feel bad or embarrassed Paddy! I am 63 years old I just moved from USA to Portugal like 20 days ago! I don’t really need to learn the language but I am insisting on learning! I am following Maria’s lessons. I am not embarrassed to ask as you see! I repeat and reply the video or sometime I keep on repeating a sentences till I feel that it is stuck I’m my mind! Just put in your mind that you are learning it for fun, and take your time! With my respect😊

I'm an older man and I have a plan to retire in Madeira & eventually become a Citizen of Portugal. Takes about 3 years I believe. You have to reach a standard in Portuguese language so I am starting now. I already love the language in just a couple of days. I'm going to be listening on my ear pods as I go about my day. I love your pronunciation.
Knowing French, Italian and Spanish already helps to have a good what words will mean when I READ them in Portuguese, especially verbs, but the sound is a bit different.
Lots of practice required!!
Right. Portuguese is much "darker" in regards to pronunciation, but all those languages are from the same family and knowing at least of them helps a lot. The best of luck! :)

Really working on retraining my brain from Spanish sounds to Portuguese sounds. Very helpful when you show us the nasal sound visually by showing how you change your mouth shape. I appreciate that so much. I also appreciate that you tackle these lessons very technically. I don't really learn much from those apps that just make you memorize the phrase versus understanding the logic behind how you change the word based on the usage.
Oh, I always advocate against Memorize and similar... I mean... It's fun, but that's not how our brain actually absorbs and learns vocabulary words.

Each lesson is densely packed with information and needs to be listened to several times. While this is good, I wish there were more interactive drills so that I can more easily practice pronunciation. Thank you for what your are doing.

@@marktheunknown1829 I know... That's why i made a whole playlist with the pronunciation videos in which I repeat the same sentences over and over again like a broken record. repetition is the key. Focused listening, and repetition.

Boa tarde Professora Maria, I just started Portuguese in school dois evenings a semana. Our Professora falar Portuguese todos bem without hands and pictures so muito difficile to understand. Slowly and steady eu learning muito words :) I am now since Augusto 2021 in Portugal. My wife started with the language a year before me so she is already on the way. I will use your videos as a guidance and noticed that speaking is ofcourse the difficult thing to do. I have many friends in my sportclubs but I always speak English with them and not easy to change or to make a conversation in my level. Muito obrigado.

I listen to your channel in the gym and in the car. Even though I've heard 100 Verbs about a hundred times, I still forget them. I am visiting Azores next February for three weeks and want to converse with the locals. I really don't want to focus on typical tourist things like "ordering in a restaurant". I wish I had someone to practice with locally. Most Portughese speakers here in Florida are Brazilian, and I am noticing a lot of difference. I don't want to develop the wrong habits for Europe. I love your classes. Especially when you speak slow then fast. Obrigado!

Maria, your lessons are a gem! Been studying for only 3 days, and it's the most rapid start I've ever had in a language (speak English and German fluently as foreign languages + learned Spanish back in the day).

Even when I slow it down, in todos os anos or meses, I cannot hear the os. I'm worried I'll never be able to understand anything people say to me. But Maria, you are a fantastic teacher!
Hi, Andrea, there's no need for despair! That's so normal, and all these sounds may sound even more frightening if you're a native English speaker. Portuguese is full of consonants and just takes some time to get used to those closed and deep, dark sounds. I've been there as well. One step at a time.

One of the comments below is that your lessons are so much better than the lessons I paid for. I agree. The fee was Euro 180 for two lessons per week over five weeks. Each lesson is for two hours. In desperation I sought help and found Marija. Amazing. I am attempting to arrange private lessons with him/her/it/them (one does not know the proper pronoun these days).

Olá Maria! Tudo bem? Sou finlandesa e estudo português depois quase 1,5 anos. Falo muitas idiomas é trabalho com linguas, MAS português é uma outra coisa! Acho que a vossa lingua é simplesmente muito difícil. É difícil a ouvir, a compreender e falar. Felizmente as palavras muitas vezes são familiar das outras linguas. Eu estudo portuguese cada quarta-feira 1,5 horas num curso para adultos e também no Duolingo. Tenho algumas amigas na Lisboa e uma no Porto. Escrevo cartas com eles. Mas agora sobre as tuas aulas: os parecem muito efectivos (?) e vou definitivamente continuar a seguir. Muito obrigada e boa primavera! Aqui ainda tremos muita neva.

Please I wish when you speak Portuguese that you would have an English translation underneath, it would be helpful just in case we're not sure. I love it when you pronounce the words a couple of times at least, so we can try to improve our pronunciation too ;-).

A minha língua materna é o Espanhol, e eu aprendí a falar a lingua portuguesa desde menino com a radio e a televisão brasileiras, mas com o tempo eu fiquei chato de saber falar portugués so com o sotaque deles, LOL!! Agora eu desejo aprender a falar do jeito e com o sotaque das pessoas em Portugal, ha tempo que ouço programas da radio portuguesa e adoro o jeito que voçês falam.
