I got an ultratech and man you’re right about it being a thumb destroyer. I’m gonna oil the switch up to help make it a little smoother on the action as it is a little stiff. Guess that comes with new knives though.
I know your video is 3 years old… but came across yours because you are ACTUALLY REVIEWING IT. I am on the fence between this but the Warhound. Or Benchmade Freek… yea two totally different knives.
So it really depends on what you are looking for, I have owned a warehound otf from microtech and I still own a super freak with custom micarta scales that I love and has held up perfectly. So microtech wise I would honestly wait because there is some crazy stuff coming down the pipeline for next year. But as far the super freak goes man I absolutely love that blade, it looks great or stock but those micarta scales really made it for me personally. Hopefully that helped you out and I'm glad you enjoyed the video. Have a great day
@@RedwolfEDC I appreciate it man, it will be my first Microtech, and there is only a very limited amount of this particular one i am looking at. But for it’s price, i could get 2 benchmades or 2 spyderco’s lol. The one i am looking at is a two tone warhound and the more i see it the more i want it. BM freek i could pick up later this year 🤷🏻♂️
I want one so bad. I have a Boker kalashnikov otf that I love, but the ultra tech is just the best looking otf especially in that tanto. On top of that the quality is second to none.
The thumb thing is for real, but only for the first few days, a week tops. You’ll get that delicate, rose petal of a thumb another layer of skin then you’re all good.
I had a combat Troodon and I really wasn’t comfortable with the button. I gave it away because it just wasn’t enjoyable for me. The friend I gave it to let it set into a box. She will get it out every once in a while and let people see it, but it is so hard to deploy that no one likes it. It’s just bad advertising for the company that made that knife. If the button was better, I would buy other ones. I hear that if you send it in, they will mail it back to you with a letter, it’s condescending and tells you that you are weak and your dexterity can’t handle the knife. I work construction and swing a hammer all day. Dexterity is not a issue.
I recently purchased the zombietech hellhound and Warhound signature, Siri set, it’s number 30. It’s amazing how much difference the trigger mechanism is between the both of them. One is almost too easy and the other one is pretty tight.
I agree all knives that have a removable glassbreaker should include something to replace it with even if its just a flat head screw of sorts. I don't want a glass breaker on every single knife I own lol it's over down and played to death the glass breaker was a neat thing when it came out years and years ago but it's getting annoying an kills the ascetic of some knives
Got my first microtech ultratech UMS edition I agree the lanyard hole I hate LOL but the finish is holding up amazingly well on the body the blade is dull as can be a good stabber I guess I've got allot of other OTF knives that get sharp. Glad I tried one tho it's a good knife that I will probably end up selling cheap haha but that's me. Maybe a hell hound next. Have a awesome 4th Kyle 🇺🇲🎇🎆🇺🇲✌️
I bought ultratec replacement spring on amozon I think company is teamwill. I used it to fix a mini troodon I cut the ultratec spring to size I needed its alot stiffer than standard cas diameter of spring is thicker but now my mini will puncture thru deer park water bottle basically I eliminated the safety feature its like my halo 6 obviously not thst strong. Do you still have your hydra how's it holding up? Any way take care
This knife is the reason my country sucks when it comes to making dumb things illegal. Ican deploy my flick blade faster than i can deploy my ummm other knife that deploys with a button. why its illegal to have a button i dont understand
It comes it handy for reaching the top shelf but I have to bend down so damn far to pick something up off the floor, also I literally have a scar on my forehead from forgetting to duck under a door jamb, so it definitely has its down sides.
@@RedwolfEDC stay safe in these days Kyle. i just scooped a hellhound bronzed ultratech from a trader on reddit. Hope it checks out and I get the full experience
The new Combat Troodon (Gen3) is so easy to open now, along with the Hera II and Scarab II (Gen 3).
Great video. This is the most unbiased, and most detailed review I can find of the ultratech.
Thank you, I really appreciate that.

@sprinkleddonuts6094 Microtechs are great so if it's something rare and it will make you happy then grab it man.
Very nice knife as I dig the blade and I usually don't warm up to that blade shape....Good share....Good stuff....
I'm thinking about buying one of these for edc and work. I work in a sheet metal shop and use my knives pretty hard
That lanyard hole is for tethering it to yourself so you don't drop it and have an injury or death or broken knife. Osha approved lol

Awesome looking stuff definitely wouldn't mind having one of those
You the man Kyle. Such a dope looking knife.

I hope your well man 👊🏻
I really like the Ultratech line I own 4 now and haven’t lost love for them great users
🍻
I’m absolutely fantastic man.
Love the ultratech you picked up man! If you ever get tired of it or beat it to crap I’d love to buy it.🤩
Not a problem brother, I will definitely keep you in mind.
Kyle J. Lanphere hell yeah!
I had an Ultratech for a while, I did like it but Its not what I'd carry. Maybe I'll try one again at some point.
Would u carry a utx85 instead
@@Mann.withtheplann I doubt it, they just aren't what I like enough to carry one over a lot of what I already have.

I have a few CTs and the mechanism feels slightly different on all of them.

It does feel damn good in hand though.

I had an earlier 2012 model it was super hard to deploy.
This one is actually really smooth, I also bought another one recently and it’s just as smooth.

How do you find the functionality of the hellhound blade ? I really wanted one until I saw people saying it was not good for cutting
I still have this knife and I used it on a regular basis with no issue, it's been sharpened 3 times in two years and preforms just fine.
@@RedwolfEDC thanks
@MikeyDfromTN Yes sir, also whatever coating they use on the bronze signature series blades also holds up really well.

I filed my lanyard holes off
