I’ve watched so many videos showing how to make a rose and this is the best and most detailed one I’ve seen. I had no idea why my roses were coming out so flat!
Several people have asked for my buttercream recipe. Here it is. 2 pounds sifted powdered sugar 4 ounces ( 1 stick ) butter 12 ounces (1 ½ cups) solid white vegetable shortening ( Sweetex or a high ratio shortening is best) 1-2 Tablespoons Alan’s Bridal Blend Flavoring 2 Tablespoons Powdered Coffee Creamer dissolved in 1/3 cup very water Cream softened butter, vegetable shortening and flavoring until smooth and light. Add powdered sugar and dissolved coffee creamer and mix on medium speed for 4-8 minutes until smooth. Scrape the sides of the bowl frequently. This recipe doubled will fill a 5 quart mixer. For whiter icing omit the butter and add ½ cup more shortening.
***** You can substitute any flavoring of your choice such as vanilla, butter, lemon, etc. You can add melted unsweetened chocolate to the icing to make a chocolate buttercream.
Hi chef would you like please to give me the recipe by grammes. Im Algerian so i can't understand what's ounces and pounds :( sorry . So please give me the recipe by the easy words (because im not that good in english) thank you chef
I have been a baker for 10 yrs cooking for the military but never got the formal training that I needed and desired to have. Your tutorials have helped me so much. Thank you for sharing your talent.
I just bumped into this on a midnight insomnia how-to youtube binge... and I wanna tell you... this is awesome, perfect, exactly something I needed to come across! I have a 13 year old that's got a confirmation coming up in spring and.. well.. I'll probably end up having to make everything for catering the following party. I have worked in a bakery before so I'm confident enough in making several forms of decoration, but buttercream roses are much easier to get in the colours you want than marzipan ones and I've not worked in buttercream in that way before. So this is, exactly something I could use.
You are an excellent teacher. You get straight to the point, without a lot of extraneous lecturing, and your instructions are very, very clear. Thank you!!!!!!!!
i have been trying for weeks to make a rose that looked worthy of the name, i failed every time and almost gave up, your video was so easy to follow, it took two tries but finally i can now produce a rose i am happy with, Thank you Chef!
I just got my first job for decorating cakes and one of the very first things I've had to do was learn roses. This video was perfect and explained so well. Thank you!
Your demonstrations are so detailed. You leave nothing to the imagination and make it possible for me to create something beautiful that I can be proud of. Thank you so much!
I loved everything about this video, your pleasant voice and the closeness of the camera to show the detail of each rose you made. I have never made a rose but with this video I believe I can do this, that is watching this as I do it but at least I will do it.
I did a refresher of my baking and decorating skills yesterday (something that had gone woefully unused in a diabetic house,) and this is so useful. I can not tell you how long I spent trying to figure out how to make a rose, and just made frosting piles instead. This is exactly what I needed. Time to make yet more buttercream!
Carmen, you can easily make icing flowers ahead and freeze them for future use. Many bakeries make their flowers once a week during slow days to be prepared for weekend cake orders.
GlobalSugarArt I just made my first rose's. With some practice they turned ok. Thank you so much for taking the time to share all your tips and skills with us. Your the best. I wish I could show you my first Rose. You can see them getting better Everytime.

I'm just getting ready to learn and I'm looking at this and thinking to myself...I got this! It'll take some practice to get it completely right, of course, but that looks so much easier than what people have tried to tell me in the past!
I LOVE your teaching technique! I swear it's the best that I've seen so far. You make it look so easy also :-) I can't wait to give it a try, just the way you explained it! Thank you sooooo much!
One of the best how-to videos on any subject I've ever seen. Great audio, clear speech, fine camera work, and plenty of repetition to make it clear. Thank you very much. :-)
Oh, reading your comment made me think of something! The only thing about the cameraman is that I wish he stayed closer, and we would get to really look at the finished rose. I would like to know if the underside of my rose looks right. To me, it looks a bit messy!
Thank you so much for this tutorial! I watched this... about three years ago, when I was first starting to learn how to decorate, and it helped me IMMENSELY. I found it again just now, and picked up a few more tips just by watching it again!

Alan, love this tutorial. What color is this? does it works with fondant? I have tried every color possible and mixtures of color and I have failed. Obviously I did not try yours.
I wish you would make some more videos! I've watched a lot of different cake artists but you're my favorite and I've already watched all of your buttercream videos!
This is the rose tutorial that I've been looking for so long. I always have a bit of trouble with the base of the rose (the cone), but with this, that most likely will be solved. Thank you!
Thank you so much for this video! I’ve watched so many videos and still struggled with making roses. The way you explain it is just great and it was so easy to follow it! My roses were finally beautiful ❤
Really? Damn, it's taking forever to load, I'll just leave then, lol....so I'm not that fazed that I'm going to miss it. If he doesn't zoom in, then what's the point of the video.
We love all of your videos. This one was the most help. Everything is explained so well & is so easy to follow. The explanation & way it's presented, was in such a way that my daughter & I, both, can now [finally!] make roses. She was able to make a nice rose after 2 viewings. Took me three viewings to figure out what I was doing wrong. (left handed) Thank you so much!
I would love to pursue a business with making of wedding cakes and special events, etc, I have this desire since I am a kid to do this, do your supplies have what is necessary for decorations and to get started? you are a great teacher by the way, thank you!
I did some cake decorating many, many years ago -- taught myself from a small Wilton book -- but could never make a rose that I would let anyone but the dog see. I am SO thankful for the computer age and You Tube. If a picture is worth a thousand words, a good video is worth a thousand photos. Thank you, thank you for your terrific tutorials! You didn't talk about this, but I did notice that for each succeeding row of petals you held the tip at a greater angle from the center of the rose. Between that and making a nice, tall dome to build on, and getting my icing to the right consistency, I may just dust off my cake decorating set, whip up some buttercream with my trusty Kitchen Aid, and try roses again!
LOL! Cheryl that is a great story. Yes, get out the mixer and your tips and give it another try. You will surprise yourself! If for some reason you still find it difficult, please try the foam rose bud trick. It works every time!

Thank you so much. I am a just beginning to bake cakes and I've been trying to make roses since last night without the slightest hint of success. I've watched several youtube channels in order to learn how to do this and you are the only channel that made this so very clear for me. My roses still aren't perfect, but practicing this way will most certainly make me better! :D
I love watching you decorate. I’ve taken classes at Wilton through Hobby Lobby some time ago. I’m ready to practice & learn from you. Thank you so much.
Thank you so much for sharing this, After having problems because I'm left handed with the Wilton method I found that I could adapt your method much easier and my roses are beautiful now. Also thank very much for sharing your buttercream recipe, it was very generous of you.
I felt so confident that I can finally manage to make a great rose just by watching your video. You were so calm and patient in showing all details.. I want to be your student!
Thank you for this video. I took a cake decorating class and I will admit making roses the most difficult part. I am out of practice, but thanks to your video, I think I can try again with better success!!
That's great and amazing your step by step demonstration make it easy following understanding more better. Thump up.. . Already I'm addicted to these videos . Thank you
Thank you so much for the awesome details I took classes after high school for cake decorating and my boss want me to fill in as a cake decorator in 2 weeks well its been 4 years since I've worked with butter cream and your videos are definitely bringing back the tricks I learned
THXXXX sooo much this helped me A LOT, my first try was back so was my sec but my third one wasss sooo goood. my teacher is going to loveeee these roses on her cake
@@GlobalSugarArtyoutube I love gel food colors. I've been trying to perfect an ultramarine color, a bright but deep and intense shade between blue and purple.
Thank you so much for taking your time/ I felt so dumb that I didn't know how to make these, but in the beginning of your video when u said it is a beginners lude because we find it very hard, it REALLY made me feel less insecure. And you took your time. All the other videos I looked up were super fast and didn't explain step by step . Thanks a million :)
Oh my goodness I tried this and I got it PERFECTLY on the fourth try!!! I didn’t have the rose nail or whatever it’s called but I did it right on a cupcake and it came out PERFECTLY!!! Thank you!!!!
I've already froze 24 roses #104 tip. My first time doing it, so it took me a good part of the day. I don't think i built the mound high enough to start the roses, they rise up however just not as high as yours. Now I just watched your video, so I'm gonna practice your way, Beautiful roses you did! I still need to make a few large roses.
Your roses are beautiful, and I love this technique! I could not figure out why my buttercream kept sliding. I know now that it isn’t stiff enough. Thanks so much for sharing!
Beautiful! I'm going to try my hand at making a cake for Easter and wanted a tutorial that really explained how to make those beautiful roses and I found it with your video. Thank you for the clear and articulate direction as well as the colorful examples. Wow! I'll let you know how my roses come out. Thanks!
Great video, one thing I learned recently and it made the petals very realistic was to narrow the opening of the tip by using pliers.. Gives you super thin, realistic looking petals..
I’ve watched so many videos showing how to make a rose and this is the best and most detailed one I’ve seen. I had no idea why my roses were coming out so flat!
Several people have asked for my buttercream recipe. Here it is.
2 pounds sifted powdered sugar
4 ounces ( 1 stick ) butter
12 ounces (1 ½ cups) solid white vegetable shortening ( Sweetex or a high ratio shortening is best)
1-2 Tablespoons Alan’s Bridal Blend Flavoring
2 Tablespoons Powdered Coffee Creamer dissolved in 1/3 cup very water
Cream softened butter, vegetable shortening and flavoring until smooth and light.
*****
You can substitute any flavoring of your choice such as vanilla, butter, lemon, etc. You can add melted unsweetened chocolate to the icing to make a chocolate buttercream.
Hi, your recipe for buttercream is missing the temperature of the water...it says 1/3 cup very water... hot or cold? Thanks :)
Robin Hanson
Good catch. I mix the powdered creamer with very hot or boiling water then allow it to cool to room temperature.

@@GlobalSugarArtyoutube I love gel food colors. I've been trying to perfect an ultramarine color, a bright but deep and intense shade between blue and purple.
Hi Chef Alan, at last I know what the problem has been with my roses! I didn't make the cone high enough. So glad I know now :-) xx

AWESOME instructional clip! Clear, concise and easy to follow. Thanks!
Thank you so much for taking your time/ I felt so dumb that I didn't know how to make these, but in the beginning of your video when u said it is a beginners lude because we find it very hard, it REALLY made me feel less insecure.

That's a very beautiful rose!
Great video, one thing I learned recently and it made the petals very realistic was to narrow the opening of the tip by using pliers.. Gives you super thin, realistic looking petals..
Thank you for doin this video I been baking for 20+ an always had someone else decorate the cakes, an this will be my first time to decorate a cake
Thank you chef. Your roses looked awesome. Great idea about the gumdrop. I'll have to try that.
