I usually don't comment on videos, but this was fantastic. I was quoted over $500 by an official Whirlpool repair tech to replace the ice maker in my Whirlpool WRX735SDBM00 refrigerator/freezer, and I laughed him right out of my house. With this video, an ice maker off Amazon, some good music, and a beer at my side, I was able to get it done for $100 and about an hour and a half of work. Learned something along the way too. Thank you!

Thank you very much for this awesome video. Our ice machine died on us last week, just ahead of our big Thanksgiving gathering this weekend. I ordered the new unit (which is what I hoped was needed to fix the problem) and I just followed the video step by step. It took me about 45 mins from start to finish and 2 hours afterwards I heard the first tray of ice fall which was music to my ears! It may seem a bit daunting to change this at first blush and seeing the 2 wiring harnesses included in the package is intimidating but it is pretty straight forward. Just pause the video after each step and do what it says and you've be back with ice in no time.
Thank you so much for this amazing video.

After a few sessions of following every instruction and rewinding and playing back the video I finished and slid everything in. Initially Nothing ! I mean after even a couple of hours. I went to bed sad 😢😢. But today I HAVE ICE!!!!!!! I am so proud of myself!😊

My ice maker stopped working, Bought the replacement kit per my Refrigerator model, swapped all the cables out, removing the motor was not that hard to do for me. This video does a great job of doing a step by step on how to repair. TIP * Take pics of the old unit prior to swapping everything out so you make it the same. Plugged back in and within 15 minutes, I heard water going into the ice maker and it is now making ice, thank you so much!!

You guys are awesome! Our Whirlpool French Door's icemaker crashed on October 16 and our home warranty company is still acting like it's gonna get fixed so the other day I bought my own and at first panic because I was sent a different model then I'm told the W10882923 replaced the W10377151. So I decided to follow your video and BOOM it's back and working again. Thank you so, so much. Now were gonna go comb through your other videos for more ideas.

Thank you for the helpful video! I did notice that I could drop down a part without removing auger motor. Just removed two screws that were attached to the part with ground wire screw and there were three clips visible. just depressed clips and pulled forward and part dropped out. From there I was able to remove ground screw without cutting and was able to attach new ground wire and manually push on other ground wire before reattaching. Thanks again! I could hear the water filling and I will be nice to have ice for the first time in months!

Great job and thank you. ALSO note to others, I did not have to cut and splice any wires. I.E. @4:15 the ground wire you can remove the 3 bolts holding that motor in place and use a long, thin screw driver to remove and reinstall the ground. Again: thank you for this video

I cannot thank you enough for your tutorial. A refrigerator repairman came out to fix a drain leak and told me the ice maker was too old to repair and likely couldn’t get parts. Now, 8 months later, this nurse fixed it herself with your help! I even spliced the wires. 🙌🏻 Thanks for making this video!

This is a great video good job.
One thing I would like to add is that the plugin on the head of the icemaker is easy to remove if you take the cap off first. Also my ice bin arm was not attached to the new ice maker but laying in the bottom of the box. Didn't realize this and stuck the ice maker halfway in and had to remove it to add the arm and the little white plastic Ice bin gauge. I also ended up using the old arm because I didn't like the little crimp end on the arm that went through the water funnel

Thanks so much for this. Ive done some appliance repairs before but this was way more complicated than I was expecting. The biggest issue I had was the first wiring connectors getting in the way of removing/reinstalling the icemaker assembly. Hope the new one lasts longer than the original one!

Had seen a few other videos where things were already done or they edited parts out of the vid, but you went all the way through, beginning to end. More DIY videos need to be like this

Installed it as well with the help of this video. Thank you. I followed the advice of scott farley (in the comments) and was able to reconnect ground without splicing it. The one thing that was odd... My replacement didn't come with the extension shut off arm installed... I almost put it back in when I noticed it was missing. I found it in the shipping box and put it in but it seems to be not working right. It won't go down on its on.. I am not sure if it will self align itself later on but it just seems to not be working right. I put it in the fridge and heard water filling up... I will keep an eye that it indeed shuts off and doesn't keep making ice.

Thank you very much! OK, job complete. Ice maker is overflowing with ice. Mission accomplished with the help of this video. I had this same exact situation when I had to replace my ice maker.
The replacement unit had an external timer wheel on it. Physically looked different. Old one was internal. Thought I had ordered the wrong one. Unit comes with 2 harnesses depending on the ice maker/fridge you have. Swapping the harness was a bit of a mission, though. Repair clinic's video sucks, just shows how to swap the entire unit out, but they left out the part with the wiring harness determination and harness change-out.
The unit I had ordered was a direct replacement ice maker, but it should be noted that the unit received was a different unit with a different part number. Apparently the manufacturer, has had problems with the unit that came in the fridge when purchased so they are superceding it with PN W10882923
My original ice maker part number: W10377151
    Part Number received was W10882923
    Fridge Model Number: MFI2570FEZ00
    Brand: Maytag

Nice video on install, found when I do these I put a little mineral oil on the side slider that goes into the grove, makes a great lubricant to help slide the unit back into position as sometimes the plastic against plastic makes it difficult to pull in and out.....

I was able to get to the two ground wires without removing the auger motor. You can loosen the screws to provide more wiggle room but there is two screws that hold the vertical plunger switch in place and you can pull that out giving you full access to the screw that fastens the ground wire. No splicing required.

I inherited a whirlpool refrigerator just like this on and the icemaker didn’t work. After researching what may be the problem (water valve, located in the right back of fridge) I decided not to use the part I ordered because I didn’t want to play cat and mouse on what the problem may be. I have repaired many of the appliances in my house so I have some knowledge on how this works. There were several things that it could’ve been that made my icemaker not work so I decided to call a local repair shop to do the diagnostic. After some time he confirmed it WAS the valve, so I replaced it. It was NOT the problem as this valve had the same result ( on both I could get water from the fridge, it just wasn’t getting water to the ice maker, also every other feature, freezing, etc worked it just wasn’t getting water. Sooo, the repair man came back out and his “diagnostic” was that I needed to replace the ice maker. Bottom line after I receive the icemaker and watching your video I discovered not only did I need to replace the icemaker I needed the wiring (adapter) that the new ice maker called for. Please tell me what I need to buy, what the part number is to get the part that I need that has the correct wiring to fit w1088923!

If the bail isn't down, attempt to lower it. If that doesn't solve your problem check all connectors fully engaged, starting with the white plug that connects into the left side of the control unit (the assembly with the dial, located on the front of the ice maker).

    • @mrmaxfield67

The ice maker fill valve can't operate with the harness connector separated, so there's no need to shut off water to the fridge.

Those plug thingies on the wire harness that seal openings through which the harness passes (and protect the harness wiring) are called grommets. 😁
