    This is why i bought the 2018 CRV LX (2.4 NA), no issues so far; while others with 1.5T on Civics, CRVs and Accodrs where i live (Dominican Republic) have a lot issues with engine injectors, head gaskets and transmission.

    Thanks for this video. My son comes over every few months to change his oil on his 2018 Honda Accord. I noticed the other day that the oil smelled like gasoline and after draining was almost a quart over filled. I thought maybe we just over filled on the last oil change even though we are always careful to fill to the full mark. After watching your video I'm sure we didn't, and this must be my son's problem with his car. We change the oil every 5k but maybe will change to 3k? This car has been junk from day one. It is driven mostly highway miles and has always been well maintained. At 60k the head gasket went and took numerous trips to the dealer to diagnose. Shortly after the engine main seal started leaking and had to be replaced twice to get it resolved. Honda blew it with this POS 1.5 liter turbo pile of garbage. Oh yeah tie rod end on the last inspection as well but at least now with 82k still has the original breaks so kudos to Honda for that. Bottom line is, we will never buy another Honda 1.5 engine with a turbo. All manufactures are doing it because of the tree hugging EPA standards so good luck finding a reliable car going forward. I will continue to buy the naturally aspirated v6 Toyota 4Runners until the day that I die.

    Thanks for the video and explanation! I had heard of the oil dilution issue when I was researching purchasing my 2018 Accord 1.5T. I had also heard of the software updates that I assumed resolved or improved the issue. However, when I was active on the Accord forums there were always people bringing up oil dilution, like it was happening everywhere with every car. I've been trying to get my oil changed every 3,500-4,000 miles, have been mindful of the dangers of "short trips", and I did change my PCV valve. I'm 55,000 miles now and the car is driving great.

    I have a 2023 Accord Hybrid Sport L with 10k miles on it. Truly enjoyed every single mile driven. Would really love to keep this car forever, but unfortunately a trade-in might be in the near future. Here's why:
    My online Repair Service schedule notes to the dealership:
    About two weeks ago I could smell gasoline fume when I parked the car in the garage after 1 hour of driving. There wasn't any visible gasoline leaks. The gasoline smell went away when after parking over night. The next day, the car didn't smell like gasoline when parked in the garage, but it smelled like very mild hot gas/oil mixture... The next day that I started to notice the cabin smelled like mild hot gas/oil mixture fumes when the blower fan was on, during idle or slow speeds... I inspected the car engine again with a flash light, but there was no visible gasoline leaks. The oil dipstick had strong diluted gasoline smell at 60 oil life left. I took the car in for an oil change last Thursday and mentioned the gas smell issue to the advisor, but the advisor couldn't smell the mild gasoline fume. The smell was more obvious in a closed small garage... Now only about a week after the oil was changed, the oil dipstick is already starting to smell like diluted gasoline fume again. Need someone to diagnose the fuel pressure regulator, injectors, fuel lines, and the fuel line quick-connects before a catastrophic engine failure occurs.
    Took the car in to the dealership, here were the results as I anticipated:
    - We had multiple technicians looking for visible signs of gas leaks, but there wasn't any.... Of course there wasn't any signs of gas leaks. They probably didn't read my notes.
    - Technicians didn't smell any gasoline dilution in the oil... Of course not, the oil had only about 100 miles driven, but it smelled like 1000 miles to me. My nose wasn't exposed to oil/gas all day like the technicians, I could smell the gas/oil dilution.
    - Some burn smells are normal and could get into the cabin... WTF? Didn't you read my F'n notes? End of the conversation... Of course I didn't say that to the Honda advisory or the technicians. I thanked them for their service instead...
    The last comment I made was, I'm not a mechanic by trade, but have a little over 30 years of car maintenance experience, so I know a thing or two about car components....

      your Honda has a pressure relief pump on the gas tank if you over fill it and the pressure sensor on the gas tank goes to high ,the pump will bleed it off in your garage until the pressure is lowered in your tank , its common my does it mostly in the summer or heated garage , just don't click the gas nozzle .

    I own a 2018 CR-V with the 1.5 turbo, I live in Wisconsin and unfortunately it sees more short trips around town than trips on the highway. Before the reprogramming and driving it in winter the cabin would reek with the gas and oil smell and in 5000 miles I would see about a .25” rise in the oil level. The reprogramming helped with the smell inside of the cabin. I now change the oil at 3,000 miles when the weather get cold and 5,000 miles during the summer months. By doing this I see no rise in the oil level throughout the year. One thing I still get is after I drive it on the highway and park it in the garage I still get that oil and gas smell out side the car. I thought the emission system was a “closed system” . If that’s the case where is the smell coming from?

      @@christopherthomas7957 I've had my 2023 for a year now. I used 87 octane for about the first 1000 miles and noticed a fuel smell on the dipstick. I switched to 93 octane for the next 13000 miles and the smell disappeared. Since this site recommends 91 or higher octane I plan to stick with it. My 2019 crv has excessive oil dilution during the winter. No problem at all in the summer. I have had the heater control module changed. This has done very little to improve the situation. I drive in sport mode put the heater on low during winter months. There have been engine failures in my area. People that do only short runs in cold winter condtions have had ice in the crankcase. Engines never getting to operating temp. I'm a retired mechanic and have seen ice in a crankcase before. Vehicles go in for a no crank situation and it is because of ice in the crank. I have a 2021 Accord that has squealing brakes only while in reverse since it was new. What would be the best way to address this? The pads still have 50% of the friction material left. The sound seems to be coming from the back of the car.

    • @scott8919
      @scott8919 9 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      That's normal. Some brakes just squeak more than others based on their materials, how they rub against the discs, or how they're used. Hybrids are particularly prone to squeaking because they're barely used. Back up a few MPH and press the brakes a couple times to rub off any potential surface rust or dirt on the rotors. My CR-V has squeaked in Reverse since new (built January 2024). Not a safety issue.

    • @BCautosolutions
      @BCautosolutions  9 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Pretty normal tbh. Probably just some moisture or dust on the pads. Honda tries to balance noise, dust, wear, and typically does a decent job but in situations can make noise. I would maybe scuff the pads if it bothers you, might last a while without making noise until it’s time to replace them.

Does it better to drive and stress cold engine which didn't reach operating temperature and still have bigger gaps in metal while cold than let it idle for 10 minutes to slowly warm up engine without turbo blowing pressure in cylinders? My wife has 2023 CR-V with not even 5k miles on it, we are in Northern Canada, but car sit in heated garage for night and I changed oil after 1000 and 2000 miles. Always warm up car before driving to preheat cabin and seats, no oil dillution yet

    • @areallytallguy
      @areallytallguy 9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Idling is literally the worst thing you can do to try to warm up an engine. Especially on 1.5Ts this won’t get the engine hot enough and cause MORE dilution

    • @BCautosolutions
      @BCautosolutions  9 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Long term Idling and oil dilution are directly related. Idle 2-3 minutes then drive the car (no wide open throttle) until fully warmed up. The quicker the car warms up the better. You have a heated garage so chances are you will experience little to zero dilution.

    Honda runs the PCV System too low on vacuum so you have related problems. Oil has an Octane of 40 so if you have Detonation oil is making it's way into the Combustion Chamber knocking out the Head Gasket IF it's consuming oil. Fuel and Water molecules are lite and are readily pulled out of the oil IF there's enough vacuum and Honda doesn't run enough(.2 to .8inH2O). I've found my TL's crankcase under pressure during my testing. You need 1. to 3.inHg for good PCV function.

    I have a 2020 crv lx awd with only 57000 kilometers. I drove myself nuts investigating the oil dilution issue before leasing it in 2020 to the degree I was able to have dealer write up a clause in the sale that would permit me to escape the lease without penalty if it ever went into limp mode as a result of bad injectors or lord knows what else . My crv runs great though , but the oil does creep past the full mark and certainly smells like gas all the time . I'm in northern ontario so the weather is cold , my trips are a mixture of my 15 minute commute mostly highway 70/90 kmph . By the time I get halfway through that commute the temp gauge is at the sweet spot so it does get to hopefully burn off some fuel in the pan . When its -20 celcius or worse I'll use block heater overnight faithfully . My lease is up in 1 year so I can just walk away and let next person deal with any potential future issues however my lease buyout price + hst is a sweet deal . Some used 2020 / 2021 crv lx awd are selling for crazy prices while checking auto-trader honda dealer listings for used crv's . I think my buyout price + the cost of extending the honda warranty to 7 or 8 years still keeps me in good shape as any issues that pop up would be covered (head gasket , injectors etc) . Since day 1 I've used 87 octane and followed the honda maint minder for service (wait until 15%) . Now that I'm considering buying out the lease next year I've been deep diving oil dilution again on channels like yours . My first step is simply changing to 91 octanne and perhaps getting oil changed sooner . I'm still at 80% since I had an oil change in march but will consider changing it at 8000 kilometers instead of the aprox 9,500 kilometers I usually get from a full 100% to 15 % timeframe . I'm guessing that will be at around the 30% mait minder timeframe . I've seen a youtuber with a 2017 that switched from 87 octane to 91 octane that went from 7.5% gas in the oil via a blackstone analysis down to less than 1.5 % by switching to 91 octane . Sorry for the ramble but thanks for doing these videos to help us 1.5 turbo owners know what to watch for .If I buy out the lease I'll cover my ass with extended warranty

I said what are you talking about. It should last the life of the engine especially if you are having it serviced at the dealership. A said what are you talking about? Honda is known for having a lot of miles & continue going. That used to be the selling point of Honda. I guess it's not anymore. I'm not sure if I still want to continue investing in mine.
