Love your channel Ryan. I've seen so many different vlogs of people who moved to Poland and they try to show how we Poles live, what are the differences between our cultures etc. etc.. But the way you do it, the calm way you speak, describe everything, your fascination about everything is so different. It's literally awesome. I have met a few US Mormon missionaries in my Polish hometown, it's amazing how some of them manage to master the Polish language in such a short time (their missions last about 2 years), with very limited resources (whilst they're on a mission they have to keep themselves spiritually pure, meaning no TV, hardly any Internet, no regular books and newspapers, just some religious stuff and handbooks). One of them spoke such a fluent and accentless Polish I coundn't believe he was actually an American. Maybe it could be an idea to make a film about these guys, I know their religion may seem a bit weird to some, but their language skills are certainly impressive.

Well any Slavic language is difficult to learn; especially all the different grammatical cases & pronunciation would just drive people haywire. What's really cool however is that many Slavic languages share some basic vocabulary and learning one language alone gives you a headstart in another. I've also some interest in learning Slavic languages (I've picked up the Cyrillic script on my own already) and I do know some very basic vocabulary across the board; but I'm still far from calling myself a speaker of any of these languages hahah
YummYakitori yeah but when you learn one of the slavic language, its easier to learn second, and with third its going to be just slice thru hot butter ;p
KasiaKeJsi 360 That's true. English is in fact a very simple language in my opinion, the grammatical cases are easy and there is no grammatical gender, unlike most other Indo-European languages (German, Polish or Russian). Other than plural terms (e.g one car, two cars), there are no cases in English that requires the modification of the original word (aka inflection). In terms of spelling, Polish looks like an absolute nightmare because of its Latin orthography and all the additional diacritics. I had a good laugh when I visited Poland and saw all the crazy spellings like the word for "cleaning" (czyszczenie) and "exclamation mark" (wykrzyknik). It is in fact easier to spell Russian or Ukrainian words in the Cyrillic script once you get the hang of it. Polish also has a lot more additional consonant clusters compared to other Slavic languages.
"2:05"the same thing happened to me. I was learning Spanish so furiously for a time that when at my work walked in any client from a Spanish-spoken country It would make my day. Now I've started the new journey of Polish learning, great to feel the same passion again.

Ja dobrze mowie po Francuski, po Angielski , po Arabski, po Rosiji i i troche po Polski. guys i know that's so silly( this is my lesson of today) don't moke on me hahahaha and sorry i can not type the polish letters !!!!:p
...po francusku, angielsku, rosyjsku, arabsku, polsku... -small letters and 'u' at the end.
You rock!!!!!! My great-grandparents immigrated here to the US from Poland. It is my goal to learn Polish. Why? Because I found out I'm MOSTLY Polish (76% thanks to Ancestry.com). So even though nobody else I know speaks Polish, I am attempting to learn. Even my father (the grandson of Polish immigrants) thinks I'm nuts. There is nothing more exciting than to learn a language that is so challenging as Polish. :D
I am Polish. Polish is a very beautiful language which gives you way more possibilities in constructing thoughts than English. Unfortunately, Polish is very difficult language. Probably it must be a horror for foreigners to learn Polish. In my opinion English speaking people who learned Polish as teenagers or adults must be very smart people. If English was my native language then I probably wouldn't be capable of comprehending Polish. The reason I know Polish well is because Polish is my native language. Polish grammar is extremely complicated. Sometimes it even doesn't make any logical sense. I am Polish and I had Polish grammar tests in my junior school. I was merely passing them, because is so complicated to me. The only reason I can speak Polish well is because it is my native language. English seems to be much easier, and I still make same mistakes in English.
GOOOD for you ! I wish there would be more people like you, with the strength to DO the things ( like learning language ) and actually GETting it done ! There is so much to learn from You ! Your Polish to me is like listening my kids talking to me, which is perfect. I don't give a damn how many mistakes you make ( speaking ) all I care for is to YOUR point across. Fantastic. Where are those pierogi you speak of again ?
I study Finnish and one of our lecturers is Finnish but she's been learning Polish for two years now. Her pronunciation is really good! It's so cool that she teaches us her native language and we teach her ours :)
Omg I'm so glad i found this channel, my life has unexpectedly been connected to Poland. Flying there this April and I have so much to learn about it. I feel so overwhelmed when i try to learn the language. I speak English, and Spanish but Polish is hard for me to retain and the pronunciations are painful. Lol
I speak Fruilan, English, French, and would love to begin to learn the Polish Language as well so I can better communicate with my In-laws. Plus I respect the tradition, culture, and history of Poland.
All indoeuropean languages - incl. polish - are easy to learn for an indoeuropean native speaker. But ask a Japanese how difficult it is to learn polish.
Wow, My son told me about your channel. I am the youngest of my Polish families grandchildren. When I was born (62 now) in 1956 everyone was already just speaking English. I missed out and to this day am disappointed. I tried learning it when I was a teen ager but it never came easy to me. You sound so Polish when you are speaking it. Like the one person replied to you, that you sound American but they know what you are saying. Ugh, I wish I could be like that. Now, all the grandparents, uncles, aunts, even most cousins are gone as I said I was the youngest grandchild. I subscribed to you, I hope I can learn from here. Thanks! Darlene
Ryan, you are a charming man with your tenderness for Polish language and culture. The thing is that Polish and English have a completely different structure and phonetic system. The declension and cases of Polish nouns are complicated, however once you have caught them, they are no longer so. I promise :-) And it is very hard for us Poles to speak English at a close level to native speakers. The phonetics of English (especially British) are so damn difficult to master! After learning English for years or even decades I still cannot hear the difference between the verbs "to wonder" and "to wander". And there are many more cases like this. But after all: it is so good to see an Amercian man as happy as you seem to be in Poland! All the best to you!
@@AndreAndFriends Polish does not use tones that change word meanings without spelling changes. Cantonese meanings change hard the moment your tone changes
I saw your questions :D I even wanted to answer for this one with poems, but of course I forgot all poems about love in that moment xD (but if we talk about poetry, one of my favourite polish autor is Krzysztof Kamil Baczyński
Thanks. I had fun correcting your pronunciation of various Polish words. Overall, I had very little trouble understanding what you were saying in Polish. Polish is not an easy language to learn for westerners so I am impressed.
Polish is not hard im from Poland thats why . But i saw many videos on youtube that American and from other countrys people that they strugle with the Polish accent THATS REALLY HARD FOR THEM!!! if you dont think so try even to learn hello in Polish with the accent trust me its hard for them or even for you :D CHEERS FROM POLAND

you need to forgot about english alphabet ;) when I learnt english it was a problem for me too. However, when u remember how yo read each letter or you listen to natives then it becomes nice and easy :)
My husband is trying to learn polish but since we are living here in USA it is really hard for him to do so. Polish is difficult so I really admire your appreciate and admire your effort!
Young man, this is one of the best videos I've seen. The beginning of this video not only fits for people trying to learn a new language but also fits any situation for people trying to learn ANYTHING new. I'm also dyslexic, you touched on that, you gave tribute to the gesture your teacher made, you present yourself professionally, and you just seem to have a zest/zeal for life and sharing that feeling with others. That's very inspirational. I've sub'ed to your channel ... it was already in the 99k ... and I was hoping that it would have turned over to 100k. Maybe soon. ;o) I have Polish heritage and have been corresponding with a very nice bodybuilder/TH-camr in Poland (Jan Olejko). He speaks English fluently but I don't speak Polish (yet). I use Google translator to translate our text/correspondence. Also, I have traveled extensively with the military but have never been to Poland. I look forward to learning more from you. Please let me know if you get this comment. Thanks and best wishes to you and your loved ones. (Mike in Alabama, aka Bama Phoenix).
One thing that really stands out for me here- may sound strange- is how you said it was an accomplishment to count in Polish. You learn to count so young that it's natural to do it in your native language. I'm a native Polish speaker, now living- and teaching English- in the UK. I have very nearly mastered the local accent and don't get recognised as a foreigner. I could speak, write and even think in English, but it took forever to get my brain to count in English. I would automatically count in Polish, even though my brain was otherwise working in English. For about a year I made myself stop and start again in English, until it became more natural. Well done to you and keep at it, give yourself time.
English pronunciation is also hard to learn for Polish people. It is that because of silent vowels. Polish pronunciation is regular, the English is irregular.
Please compare English vowels: Bear vs Beard I do *read* vs I have *read* Red vs Reduce Lapel vs Label Must vs Mustache vs Ache April vs Apple Demo vs Demon Eat vs Threat Lust vs Last Flare vs Flame Heal vs Health Cut vs Cute Written English is OK, but pronunciation is pure hell. Polish vowels always sound the same. Polish consonants sometimes change their sound or are silent, but only because it would be hard to pronounce them directly. If you anyway try to speak them, you will be understood, because that's how the words are written.
That is what people don't realize, hence still calling Polish language one of the hardest, even though for Czechs, it is not that bad and impossible. Yet there could be some exceptions from this rule: take Hungarian or Basque for example, even though Hungarian belongs to a group of Ugro-Finnic languages, it sounds unique to other languages from that group and it is almost unintelligible to Finnish language...and Basque is a language isolate, so those can be considered hardest to vast majority of people here on Earth.
9:28, It's so fantastic to hear how nice and a little bit funny you're speaking. In my opinion you are on very good way to learn it. Remember about reading every single letter in new words ;), pozdrawiam :D.
Tolkien considered polish the hardest languache he learnt. Here's why: 1) Becouse of many many ways to day one word i different condidions (drugi, druga, drugie, drudzy, etc.) 2) Polish has millions of grammar rules, but its easy to poles since it comes naturally to them (Well, us) 3) Polish pronaunciation is hard to english pple, with hard "r" and many letters having same sound becouse. 4) Creating senences in polish is not like it is in english, since in polish some sentences usually have only 1 correct good sounding way and usually the second way is considered bad. Oh and its completly random. you need to feel it. 5) The doubleletter sounds are DISGUSTING (cz, rz, sz, dż, dzi, dź, ci, si, zi) And sorry for my terrible english, as you know most poles have dramaticly low level of english. And your polish is great as for american person! Sometimes you miss or make mistakes the male/female forms, but i totally understand you, object do not have gender-like form in english so it might be hard for you, like french is for me xD Hope you continue with polish and i wish you not to loose your motivation to learn one of the world's hardest languaches Cheers, Szymon "nie ucz ojca robić dzieci" nie moglem przestac sie smiac xDDDD
"One of the most difficult languages known to mankind" ok Polish is definitely hard but there are sooooo many harder languages out there lol. Great video still :)
Ryan, I'm sure you have already heard of Steffen Möller. He - just like you - fell in love with this crazy Polish language and culture, however, making the journey from the German side. I am basically native to both languages and I feel quite comfortable within English as well. Hence I can advise you to look at his videos for you will find many parallels in your and his language development. He really mastered polish. Cudos to you both!

Now I've started the new journey of Polish learning, great to feel the same passion again.
i'm learning polish , i wish i can speak it even a little bit but it so hard : a lot of "cz", "rz", "s'" "cie" this is frustrating !! i'll try something :
Nazywam sie Ahmed, ja mam 24 lat , jestem studenten. jestem mlody ale niski .mysle ze jestem inteligentny i ambitny . Ja dobrze mowie po Francuski, po Angielski , po Arabski, po Rosiji i i troche po Polski.

normal, good sentences :)
You’re trying and that is important. The language is beautiful when you bathe in it. Good for you!
Da się ciebie zrozumieć bardzo łatwo :p.

Now you can play Witcher with Polish dub without subtitles! Great job!
I study Finnish and one of our lecturers is Finnish but she's been learning Polish for two years now. Her pronunciation is really good! It's so cool that she teaches us her native language and we teach her ours :)
I am from Poland and spent there 7 years I can speak really well but my writing looks like I just started learning
Lol

I though one of your parents was Polish. Your Polish is very good keep learning don't get discourage Polish is not easy to learn but you doing fine
Jest Pan tak inspirujący! Powodzenia!
Thanks! Darlene
dziękuję bardzo for sharing your experience! I'm actually learning polish... and yes, all because of my girlfriend.
so sweet!
Speak polish with furiouspete
yep! you are right he can speak Polish as can Luke Rudkowski of We Are Change.
If the Chinese people are able to learn Polish, then everyone can learn it :)
Akcja XD not really
Akcja XD you are absolutelly right. Cantonese has only 5 different tones. Polish language has 25 different tones.
@@AndreAndFriends Polish does not use tones that change word meanings without spelling changes. Cantonese meanings change hard the moment your tone changes
@@SantomPh I'm being sarcastic here. HAHA. Cheers mate.
Poland doesn’t have Chinese Immigrants they are Vietnamese
Drogi Ryanie!
Awesome, inspiring videos, absolutely great!
Thanks for posting!
But i saw many videos on youtube that American and from other countrys
people that they strugle with the Polish accent THATS REALLY HARD FOR THEM!!!
if you dont think so try even to learn hello in Polish with the accent trust me its hard for them
or even for you :D CHEERS FROM POLAND
you need to forgot about english alphabet ;) when I learnt english it was a problem for me too. However, when u remember how yo read each letter or you listen to natives then it becomes nice and easy :)
My husband is trying to learn polish but since we are living here in USA it is really hard for him to do so. Polish is difficult so I really admire your appreciate and admire your effort!
lubie oglądać tego typu filmy
Young man, this is one of the best videos I've seen. The beginning of this video not only fits for people trying to learn a new language but also fits any situation for people trying to learn ANYTHING new.
I'm also dyslexic, you touched on that, you gave tribute to the gesture your teacher made, you present yourself professionally, and you just seem to have a zest/zeal for life and sharing that feeling with others. That's very inspirational.
I've sub'ed to your channel ... it was already in the 99k ... and I was hoping that it would have turned over to 100k. Maybe soon. ;o)
I have Polish heritage and have been corresponding with a very nice bodybuilder/TH-camr in Poland (Jan Olejko).

This isnt easy language so far*
Będzie wyglądać lepiej ^^
One thing that really stands out for me here- may sound strange- is how you said it was an accomplishment to count in Polish. You learn to count so young that it's natural to do it in your native language. I'm a native Polish speaker, now living- and teaching English- in the UK. I have very nearly mastered the local accent and don't get recognised as a foreigner. I could speak, write and even think in English, but it took forever to get my brain to count in English. I would automatically count in Polish, even though my brain was otherwise working in English. For about a year I made myself stop and start again in English, until it became more natural. Well done to you and keep at it, give yourself time.
pls try to learn czech , we are just bellow poland
Hehe, dobre :D
Ahoj, im trying to learn both, slavic languages are so beautiful 😍
Pozdrawiam😀
English pronunciation is also hard to learn for Polish people. It is that because of silent vowels. Polish pronunciation is regular, the English is irregular.
cant agree. its totally opposite.
Sledzisz mnie ;p
Please compare English vowels:
Bear vs Beard
I do *read* vs I have *read*
Red vs Reduce
Lapel vs Label
Must vs Mustache vs Ache
April vs Apple
Demo vs Demon
Eat vs Threat
Lust vs Last
Flare vs Flame
Heal vs Health
Cut vs Cute
Written English is OK, but pronunciation is pure hell.
Polish vowels always sound the same. Polish consonants sometimes change their sound or are silent, but only because it would be hard to pronounce them directly. If you anyway try to speak them, you will be understood, because that's how the words are written.
As a Pole I think that Vietnamese is harder to learn. I tried last year and I failed...In other case I hadn't problems with English.

Ciekawa aplikacja, muszę wypróbować. Twój polski jest dobry! Powodzenia w dalszej nauce!❤️
Language difficulty depends on your first language.
Zajebiście chłopie! :-) z czasem będzie coraz lepiej!
you are the best ;)
9:28, It's so fantastic to hear how nice and a little bit funny you're speaking. In my opinion you are on very good way to learn it.
Remember about reading every single letter in new words ;), pozdrawiam :D.
Who from PL? 😊
Interesujące, takie osoby lubię! Interesting video, you're great!
Tolkien considered polish the hardest languache he learnt. Here's why:
1) Becouse of many many ways to day one word i different condidions (drugi, druga, drugie, drudzy, etc.)
2) Polish has millions of grammar rules, but its easy to poles since it comes naturally to them (Well, us)
3) Polish pronaunciation is hard to english pple, with hard "r" and many letters having same sound becouse.
4) Creating senences in polish is not like it is in english, since in polish some sentences usually have only 1 correct good sounding way and usually the second way is considered bad. Oh and its completly random. you need to feel it.
5) The doubleletter sounds are DISGUSTING (cz, rz, sz, dż, dzi, dź, ci, si, zi)
And sorry for my terrible english, as you know most poles have dramaticly low level of english.
And your polish is great as for american person! Sometimes you miss or make mistakes the male/female forms, but i totally understand you, object do not have gender-like form in english so it might be hard for you, like french is for me xD Hope you continue with polish and i wish you not to loose your motivation to learn one of the world's hardest languaches
Cheers, Szymon

Your English is fine.
