    Thank for this detailed comparison. I was interested in both pens. Both so beautiful.
    Design: sailor
    Weight: Namiki
    Nib size: sailor
    Writing feel: sailor (But I am also interested in the smooth writing feel of Namiki …)
    Pricing: sailor
    I’m leaning a little bit towards Sailor. But I discovered the appeal of Namiki today 🤔

    I have a KOP and I enjoy it. I ordered the Namiki Royale only to find out that it was 6-8 month wait, so I cancelled the order. I like the shape of the nib of the Namiki better than that of the KOP; the less flare the better. Also, I always spec gold nibs and furnishings when possible; I like the color of gold much more than silver. UPDATE: I received the Namiki in vermilion with gold trim on the 30th of last month. I have become extremely fond of it, AND the bottle of blue Namiki ink that came with it.

    I love both pens, I do not like heavy pens for long writing sessions though, so I would take the KOP anytime. The biggest downside of them is the converter, there is a solution though, an Australian company sells a kind of special converter for the KOP that can contain between 5 to 10 times more ink than the normal Sailor converters. If someone needs those I can put a link to buy them.

    You should add the Namiki Aya in the mix for a closer nib comparison to the Sailor.

  • @ichirofakename
    @ichirofakename ปีที่แล้ว +2

    To my eye the shape of the Namiki is more attractive. Between the nibs, I need the feedback of the Sailor. I also prefer the lack of the cap band by Sailor. And in real life, my grail is the Sailor Ebonite King of Pen. So mark me down for Sailor.

    Samuell Naldi, I loved the video. My impression has been like this:
    NYR is a great pen, but in between the Emperor and Pilot custom Urushi, it feels like the bastard child! Especially with the heavy carriage. I am unsure who Namiki is appealing to. I am sure that I am not right and there are some hardcore users, for whom this pen is a better fit. To me none of the top 4 Pilot/Namiki pens [Custom 845, Custom 823, emperor, Yukari Royal] top the Custom Urushi's writing experience🙂
    Sailor is an awesome pen at the entry level. Unless "that special" nib is reduced in price, the overall value this pen offers does not match up to the price hike compared to the regular sailor KOP at 1/3 to 1/4 of the price. My point is, If the artist spend that much time on making the body of this pen special, Sailor should give it a more special nib.
    Of course all of that is my humble opinion.

      I’m yet to try either of the pens in the video but I have a Custom Urushi and it definitely has an amazing nib - I’m yet to try any others that compare. I considered a Yukari Royale based on looks but I think it would be a touch too heavy for my taste (Custom Urushi is heavier than I’d like too). I’m curious to know how the ayukari Royale nib feels compared to an 845 nib as I have an 845 F. I am very interested in trying a KOP ebonite at some point in the future too.

    • @calumk
      @calumk ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@adamzappia2213 I dont have the Yukari Royale but have a Custom Urushi, have had the 845 and currently have three KOPs (Urushi in Broad, Iro-Miyabi in Medium and Pro Gear in Medium). KOP is a considerably more luxurious experience vs the 845 IMO and it's easier to control the line than on the 845. All three KOPs have the characteristic feedback which is lovely and the flow is wet but well judged. The Mediums differ quite a bit however in that one is really quite fine (Iro-Miyabi) while the other is a true medium (Pro-Gear). The Broad is a true broad so not the thing perhaps for notetaking in a small notepad as it is wettish. I genuinely love the KOPs and reach for them often, but there is a delicious flex in the Custom Urushi that I haven't felt on any other pen. You really cant go wrong with a KOP however and they have a lovely balance in the hand (more ergonomic than the Custom Urushi).

  • @gky7170
    @gky7170 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    in my opinion, the nib is the soul of the writing instrument; therefore, Sailor's 21k nib beats the Namiki in terms of softness/flexiness as well as size. bigger nibs have more aesthetic appeal to me. the Namiki is heavier which is a plus over the Sailor. both are excellent pens, though.

    have 65 pens and at least 40 are Pilots so you would think I prefer Pilot but because I like a bit of feedback, I definitely prefer my Sailor pens: my absolute favourite is my Sailor Pro Gear 21k EF nib, two tone rhodium with gold trim: absolutely love this stunning nib - this nib writes beautifully, if I only had one nib in my collection it would be this one, but would miss my lovely Pilot78g+EF’s - Pilot make lovely nibs too, and just a hair’s breadth separates these two from my lovely Platinum 3776 EF, Chartres blue w rhodium trim: could write w this pen all day - my favourite Sailor is my 21k pro gear rhodium w gold trim, my favourite Pilot is my Pilot custom heritage 912 EF rhodium and my favourite Platinum 3776 EF, Chartres bleu w rhodium trim: would happily write w any of these 3 pens all day!:)

    I'm not a huge fan of golden finishes, so I would favor the KoP. However, what I don't like about the KoP is, that it comes only as cartridge/converter - for a pen of this size, I would prefer piston/vaccum/eyedropper als filling systems. So I'd buy neither ;-)

    They're close but I can't get over my annoyance @ Sailor for producing such a nice (and large) pen with the same lower-capacity converter they use in their other models so it's Namiki fo rme (if I had the budget for either!)
