  • This is my unboxing and first impressions of the Namiki Emperor Vermillion Urushi with a broad (B) 18k gold nib. This is one of the most expensive fountain pens in the market. I also compare it to the Namik Yukari Royale with a number 20 broad nib, Pilot Custom Urushi with a FM nib and Pilot Custom 823 with a fine nib.

    Beautiful pen. Yes, for the money, one could get a few extra horsepower on a new vehicle or an economy weekend in Vegas. I'd rather have the pen.

      I’m going to sate myself for now with the platinum maki e until I have enough assets to afford such a decadent pen as this

    Great review, thank you! I’m kind of sad because I’m really not a fan of eyedropper pens. I wish it was a vacuum filler instead. Also, there is no ink window which would drive me crazy! But it’s still on my bucket list! Thanks again! God bless you! 😊

    This pen is big enough for self defense! Beautiful craftsmanship, and almost aesthetically understated. One wonders if extended writing might cause the odd ink burpage, as there's no inner or secondary liner for the ink? Perhaps the pen wall, and its sheer mass, are sufficiently thick enough to preclude heat transfer/ ink expansion issues. We all need to know.....! Thanks for this fantasy posting.

      I think since the feed is coated in urushi, in the long run, as you flush the pen hundreds of times you might get bubbles on the feed but I haven’t experienced the issue you’re referring to when I wrote with the emperor.

    The packaging is amazing. I like that the seam where you turn the pen is hidden and you can almost not see the seam. The fact that the feed is also covered in urushi is a nice touch. I also love the bright red color and the Nib looks absolutely beautiful. The only thing I don't care for is the pen clip. How does it feel to write with that pen? I started with a Lamy and worked my way up to a 149 and then a pilot custom urushi which I am waiting for. Most people would think we are crazy but Congratulations on your amazing new pen.

    Love and watch your reviews. I’ve recently gotten the vermillion custom urushi in M and love it. Took some minutes to get used to the big size of the pen but now it’s all good. Now I’m thinking of getting the Emperor and would you recommend a B nib since I have the M on the CU already? Where I am somehow B nibs are a little harder to find for some reason. Thanks.

    Hey! I wanted exactly to know (and see) these differences. I didn't know if buying first a Pilot Urushi or a Urushi No. 50.
    Thanks a lot!

    Honestly the non maki-e fountain pens by namiki are very reasonably priced.

  • @joelstatosky1817
    @joelstatosky1817 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    I thought I'd mention this. I was considering getting a Namiki emperor and having the nib rhodium plated. The top of mount fuji will be normal rhodium however the bottom will be black rhodium. So it looks like the actual mountain.

    While I think this pen is stunningly beautiful, I don’t see the reason for the retail pricing for it. I have a few pens that have been made by hand, one with a 18k gold nib, and the most expensive being $700. I do understand that urushi is toxic and must be done by an expert by hand, but I feel this should be a point that drives people away from such an expensive and rare material. It feels more like driving a mustang, compared to driving a Bugatti. One seems fast, but is mass produced (relatively speaking, and I am exaggerating a little), and the other is custom fit to you, with your dimensions in mind, your choices of materials, and your input on design choices. I’m more than open to converse, pls don’t crucify me lol

    Beautiful pen! Love it! Out of curiosity, why'd you chose the vermillion over black urushi? Why classic no gold band on the cap? I liked the comparisons between the Emperor, Yukari Royal, CU and Custom 823 and others. I have been binge watching your vids and I love them!

    • @OwlxArt
      @OwlxArt  3 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      I am not a fan of the Namiki Emperor with the rings you’re referring to, I like the simplicity of plain urushi body. It’s refreshing compared to my other pens that have bands,etc.. Thank you for watching my videos. I chose the vermillion mainly for the smudge/finger print factor, I have the custom urushi in black finish and you notice the smudges a lot easier compared to the vermillion urushi. It’s not a big deal but for a huge pen like the emperor, I don’t want to see any finger prints and smudges even though they disappear immediately.

    • @PenFriends
      @PenFriends 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      What you’re paying for here is the months of work building up the lacquer and that large nib. But there are quite a lot of pens that are simply not worth it.

    • @BerndtNorten
      @BerndtNorten ปีที่แล้ว

      The Emperor's nib alone contains over $60 in gold. The number of hours of labor that went into this? It all adds up. It is 'worth' 2k? Well...if people buy it. Would a more 'reasonable' mark-up result in a price of 1k? Perhaps, perhaps not.
