    I don't see what the fuss is about when it comes to CC--cartridge/converters. You don't have to have an ink bottle handy or a travelling inkpot to refill from. CC pens are extremely easy to clean. If you change ink colors you have to work a PF--piston filler to the point of fatigue to get clear water out of it. The exception may be Pelikan PFs; you can unscrew the nib unit and run water into the barrel until it is clear (plus I use a cotton swab to get the excess water out). AND the CCs write every bit as well as PFs when you compare them within the equivalent price ranges/nib types.

    I have been waiting for this for a long long time... "Profit" is the name of the model (cigar shape. The 1911L is also a Profit), the flat top one is called "Progear".

  • @francescobroggini7657
    @francescobroggini7657 10 ปีที่แล้ว +4

    It says King Profit beacuse it's the japanese name for the cigar pen (now it's the 1911), since ther's also the King Professional Gear, that is the flat top shape pen.

    One of my favourite pens of all time for that wonderful writing experience. I don't mind the converter so much - at least the system is easy to maintain.
    Shootout with the 149 and M1000?

    It's weird that Sailor supposedly spend much time and money researching the piston mechanism for their 2006 Special Edition KOP Piston and then never made more KOP with the piston mechanism after that.

  • @nickvergara1398
    @nickvergara1398 10 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Engeika has it for significantly less than $800 and it also comes with a ton of options that weren't mentioned. Not only is there the ebonite version but also a resin standard version (similar to a MB 149), a resin flat top (both much are less expensive), a celluloid, a demonstrator, multiple urushis, multiple maki-e's, and there is even a LE piston filling version (Realo). All have the same nib and a huge price range. That doesn't even include all the specialty nibs that you can get from Sailor.
    No affiliation with Sailor or Engeika, I am just a huge fan of this pen.

    I used a friends KOP with a medium Naginata Togi nib once and it blew my doors off...Epic Amazing!!

  • @gianlucacaputo821
    @gianlucacaputo821 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Quite spectacular the way the pen actually writes. It seems the ink flows even before the nib touches the paper. Definitely in the wish list, regardless the price tag. It would be interesting to compare the performances of this nib with the 21k of the ProGear or the 1911, which are much more affordable...

  • @GenWivern2
    @GenWivern2 9 ปีที่แล้ว +4

    Well, there are worse filling options, like a piston which can't be accessed without voiding the warranty, for instance. It's pretty obvious where the competition lies, and between ebonite and a nicely fettled nib this looks like a comfortable winner to me. The lack of bling is refreshing too.

    • @sbrebrown
      @sbrebrown  9 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Yes, definitely a restrained pen.

  • @sjchun79
    @sjchun79 9 ปีที่แล้ว +12

    I dare say, except for the C/C filling system, this is better than the MB149, and even the M1000 from Pelikan.
    Some say that Sailor is a copycat of MB pens. If so, thye copied them, and then made them better.
    Truely, this is the King of Pen.

      nope, KoP writes smoother with larger sweet-spot. the smooth ebonite body really feels different in a good way and it feels fun and very enjoyable writing with KoP. The only drawback is the small ink capacity of the cartridge converter. for a pen that makes you forget you're writing for a long period of time, you need larger ink capacity.

    Great review as usual.

  • @Gadzinisko
    @Gadzinisko 10 ปีที่แล้ว +5

    Well, if they didn't want to ruin the looks of the pen (because adding the piston turning knob or the blind cap would spoil the looks, they could at least make it take some kind of custom, bigger converter. Because when I look at this barrel, this converter looks very, very small, like it doesn't even end in the half of it, which is a waste of space if you ask me...

    • @sbrebrown
      @sbrebrown  10 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      It is pretty small and it doesn't hold much inks.

    I'm curious. I've always been told that Sailor nibs generally will give some feedback when writing (not scratch, but it lets you know you're writing on paper, not butter, which can be pleasent for some) is the King of Pen the same in that regard?

  • @tigersharkpro
    @tigersharkpro 10 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    I agree with Dmitry's comment. This pen is very overpriced and insane that it's not even a piston filler. Let alone the body is made of ebonite. The nib is nice, but in my experience doesn't write any nicer than many comparably priced Delta or Montegrappa pens. I'd be interested to know your personal reasoning as to why you feel the price for this pen is "worth" it but in a prior video that Montblanc 149 is overpriced and not worth MSRP. Just curious.

    Hi Stephen. There appears to be several models of the King of Pen. There is in fact a piston filler version too. The code is
    Number: 11-7002. I'm thinking of buying this particular one. Not sure if there is a whole lot of difference between these two. Would be great for your review on this though.

    Hi Stephen. I really enjoyed your review. The instructions though were only partially in Kanji. Probably more than 50% was in Hiragana, a set of just over 40 characters based on phonemes, that can be read out loud, even if you don't speak Japanese. They sort of "fill the gap" when a Kanji ideogram is obscure or rare, and makes for easier reading for normal purposes. Chinese has no equivalent making it easy to spot Chinese text. A bit esoteric, but could be useful spotting the real provenance of a pen. I don't know if this will be useful or not. Also, again, I really enjoyed your review. Thanks

    I like the smooth and super fine sailor gold nibs, but prefer piston fillers to C/C. A pity Sailor only has the Realo for piston fillers, which has not much of an ink capacity but comes with a high price. If only there was a cheaper piston filler which can produce a Japanese F or even better, a Japanese EF line that has a gold nib...

    • @sbrebrown
      @sbrebrown  10 ปีที่แล้ว

  • @zenrazor659
    @zenrazor659 6 ปีที่แล้ว

    What about the fact that the King Sailor Realo 1911 demonstrator version in an image on the web has a sealant on the inside part of the section?
    Should you consider this fact that? Sailor appear in consideration of this good? I think the question is retoric if you take a look at the photo of the Realo version demonstrator. I never bought a pen who has been assembled in this horrible way. Should you buy? I think you should investigate better the inside part of some pens probably.

    You can't have an expensive pen with a C/C. It's a slap in the face to the consumer. Think about the Pilot Custom 823, the Montblanc 146+, every Pelikan, The Conids, etc.

    Hey Stephen! I am in the market for a large/chunkier classic style pen. I'm looking for something as close to a Classic LB5 without the price tag. Aside from the Montblanc 149 and Sailor King of Pens what do you recommend? I don't want to spend more than $500.

    A wonderful review as always. Ive just bought this pen but with a B nib from japan. 50% off the uk price including taxes and it was sealed. ive noticed that it is so much more comfortable to use than my MB 149 but i cant figure out why. Maybe the section is slightly thinner on the kop and maybe the nib is slightly thinner.

    Completely unrelated question, but can anyone tell me if the Italix Parson's Essential is still a good buy even if the Italix Churchman's Prescriptor is out? I really don't like big heavy pens, but I want an italic nib that is smooth/wet on a pen that isn't big or heavy.

    • @sbrebrown

      I don't see how launching a new pen would make an older model less good.

      abraham2057 The Prescriptor is mainly bigger and heavier, but the nib on the Essential is of similar quality to the Prescriptor. So I think the Essential would serve you well!
