Both are amazing writers but Sailor is more affordable, you’re paying significantly more for the Montblonc brand recognition. If you want to impress your peers it’s definitely Montblonc since most people don’t know about Sailor, however as a writer I adore my Sailor pens and they’re significantly less expensive. Honestly I’m an engineer and I don’t like piston fillers due to more breakdowns and they’re a pain to clean out. Good review 👍

I have a Montblonc fountain pen in my collection that’s quite new, the nib is really nice and smooth. The piston works great however the pen is over priced for its value. I understand they’re a marketing machine but similar quality pens can be purchased for significantly less money from other high end manufacturers.

I have the Otto Hut and it’s a nice pen but too heavy for long writing sessions. I also don’t like the Otto piston filler, it’s so different than all the other systems out there and finicky. I love the Pilot 928 it’s amazing as well as any Custom Urushi pens with the large beautiful nibs that Pilot produces. I also love some Sailor and Visconti nibs. Pretty well most companies make good writing fountain pens

Hope to have that moment myself one day 😅 got my dream configuration, just a click and a big payment away from a bespoke pen 😅😩

this is a very accurate comparison based on my experience. i loved Sailor and looked down on Mont Blanc. But when i got a 149 it became my favourite pen because it works so well as a whole. the barrel fill is amazing. so much ink. Sailor flow is amazing. But the lack of ink volume is bizarre. 95th Sailor KOP did have barrel fill. Brilliantly Sailor made like 100 only.

Lovely pen to look at. But actually when I tried it, the surface was too rough for my taste..

He is so enthralled with the manufacturing process but to compare manufacturing a fountain pen to hand assembly and part manufacturing of a watch is ridiculous. They are world’s apart.

@Samuel, absolutely gorgeous pen and lucky to find one this evening in Hong Kong. It’s my newest member of my pen family! If anyone is looking for one, miraculously they had 2 of them (now just 1 left, #374) at Feng Yuan Pens in Tsim Sha Tsui. Great little shop and lots of beautiful pens if in Hong Kong anytime. Another great shop visited recently was TY Lee Pens in Taipei. Also recommend that shop. ✒️

What ones better for drawing?

I personally really dont really understand what makes ottohut so special compared to that of Pelikan, MB, GVFC and other german brands. What makes them standout? and what are they known for?
