*A couple things:* 1. Thanks for the recommendations to install Bazzite, definitely going to give it a go! 2. The rattling stopped the day after unboxing it. I opened up the device to see what caused it but found nothing unordinary. If you buy a unit and run into a similar issue, 100% recommend sending it back for a replacement. I'll let you guys know if anything else happens with it in the long term review. Anwyay, back to getting my ass whooped in Sifu for the 100th time 💀
I can totally relate to your experience. A few years ago I spent so much time gaming and now all of a sudden I can barely find any time to sit down and get through my backlog. It's a real shame. While I have and enjoyed the Switch, it doesn't allow me to play triple A titles on the go and I just couldn't afford building a full gamer PC setup. So the ROG ally fits the bill perfectly and was cheaper than a full build with quality monitor. As a portable handheld I managed to now find some time playing the game in-between work or during lunch breaks. "Gamer".
Definitely, I use to game a lot on console but now I have a hard time finding time to game since I have responsibilities now. I pre-ordered the Steam Deck back when it was announced and started building a Steam library since I never played on PC and was repurchasing games I played on console but most of my games are unplayable or have issues running in game so when the Ally was announced, I pre-ordered it and had been my main PC handheld ever since.
I just boot into steam big picture mode. Its the same, no matter what anyone says. If I come across anti cheat. I just close Steam big picture mode. Simple. Solid Video.
Thank you for this, Andrew. I too am currently at a state of working 40 hours a week and with limited time to anything that is gaming. Plus, I am working in a whole other city, so going back home is a no-no. So, I am on the same page when it comes to thinking of buying the Rog Ally X. From one Gamer to another, happy gaming in peace.
For me first was the Deck. Changed the way I played games. Then Rog Ally came out, I picked it up right the at and started Diablo 4 and then went on and finished so many AAA games with crystal clear picture at 60+ fps. Battery was never really an issue. But having that huge gain in 1% low for a lot AAA titles, I just might pick this one up.
My doubt is whether Asus will treat the new Ally as a finished product, as they do with their cell phones. Or whether it will be a console, which receives updates and improvements over time, so that games continue to run on the same product for an entire console generation, like the steam deck...? P.S. great review and homage to the traditional gameboy.
Just got mine yesterday. No rattling. Definitely better battery than the previous one. Weight is almost the same I can't even tell it was heavier. The buttons don't get stuck anymore too! Just wished it came with the white colour. Black is so boring.
8:14 dual boot the bazzite OS, and all of a sudden you have what is effectively steamOS while also maintaining windows for gamepass/anti cheat games as necessary. Best of both worlds!
You fixed the rattling by tightening the screws. My mom dropped mine and the same thing happened. So I broke out the small screwdriver and went to work on it.
If any of the tactile components of this thing gets worn out - joystick, buttons, etc, you're relying on Asus providing long term support to stop this from turning into an $800 brick. Valve has a better record for providing support, and the Legion Go comes apart so you could simply get new controllers.
ive seen multiple reviews and their only complaint is the operating system which i never see as valid since you can easily install any other operating system, i would definitely install a non bloated version of windows 10 like ghost spectre light. will give u so much more room for performance and fps
That rattling doesn't seem normal tbh I'd be worried even though it stopped, we don't know it'll pose any problem in future, And considering asus warranty drama that just happened, I'd have returned it within the replacement period rather than dealing with warranty process later... You're daring to give it a chance, I assume you have a lot of money maube that's why, and im not saying that in mean way... I would have asked for different unit.
I agree. If that loose material ever gets caught to the cooling fan, the device will overheat and might hang, restart, or worse. Better send it back and have them inspect it.
Question. Do you have to pay monthly subscription to be able to play online? I have diablo 2 on nintendo switch and to play online i need to pay that gold
no ,you dont need any monthly subscription because the rog ally is a windows handheld its like a mini gaming pc ,you just need an internet connetion to play online
dude, I am having a similar problem. I don't have a whole lot of time to play (maybe an hour max a day) and the asking price in Japan is ¥139,800 yen, which is hard for me to justify paying if I am only going to play it every once in a while.
Been through a heartbreak for almost a year Avid gamer before now I don't even hv the urge to buy games anymore 😢 It's all because of she belittles my hobby
There are Open Box (Used) options where you can get one for almost the same price as an ROG Ally Z1 Extreme…. but I guess you want one around $500 or less?
probably wont be too much, unlike steam deck which valve will earn back their money with steam store after purchase, ROG ally doesnt have that winning situation.

That's so weird. Now I'm super curious what was causing the rattling? 🤔
hey Andrew, which wrist watch are you wearing?

Why do you work lmao? Leave all the hard work for the empowered♀️ and 🏳️🌈🏳️⚧️, we should dedicate our lives to real gaming
Someone said they played using a portable mini projector. I wonder if that is any good.

The internal fans getting loud and warm.. must have a defective unit.
I barely hear mine or feel warmth.. even on turbo mode

Original Gameboy was the best back then. Even my father bought his own 😂
Lmao same, I had the blue,my father had the red and even my aunt had the pink😂. You know they cooked when the whole family buys it.

Why do people say steam armory crate is clunky ? I never have any problems with it . I’m enjoying it on my original z1 extreme never had a problem

I wonder if they did that because the steam deck is black and so is the lenevo go

Really enjoy your review and lot of important key point about the hardware. Keep it up 👍.

asus is allowing more custom at home repairs and upgrades, you can buy specific parts online, and everyone has a long term warranty
im a happy gamer with my ally ❤ great video
The old ROG ally case fits the new Ally X in just snug to be honest

Yes I did and love it

100% agree. If this happens to you, get it replaced ASAP. I'm holding onto mine in case there's faults I should share with the community.
Very relexing to watch!nicely narrative.
Отличное видео . Спасибо за распаковку и поверхностный обзор
This makes me miss the old classic Game Boy! Great video, gamer! 😁
Can you play game on it with a controller, like playing FIFA with a friend?
yeah. i love thiss
1:30 oh man I’d be super pissed about that 🤦♂️
Gamer! Good video, try the Ally X with Bazzite
Thanks for the rec, looks like a potential gamechanger!
I've seen other people with that same rattling on the rog ally subreddit
Very nice review

Only Nintendo does that. Greedy company.
thats console player problem because you guys tolerate too much.
I want one but I don’t know if I can justify the over $1500 aud price tag with how little time I get to play.

asus shouldve done this for next gen. You will have the most expensive version, and the cheapest version
#Gamer great video dude, I just subscribed.
Will they ever lower the price
Probably in a couple of years

How does it compare to the ally

Have you try play ps5 remote play in rog allyx?
Good question!!
@@MongeMelendez nice. I looking forward for it.
Its nice i like te settings
I think it cost to much 600$
What game is at 8:55
How much did it cost?
Both kidneys
Everything
Can you link that under desk mount
I don't think a casual gamer is going to buy a ally x that costs more than the ps5 pro, when the steam deck is much cheaper
It costs the same and is more powerful too my knowledge and that's coming from a PlayStation fan
And as the for the steam deck it's less powerful and if you need cheaper the regular ally is 200 cheaper for a slight downgrade
Gamer!
Bazzite os?
emulation xbox360?
VRR Engages at 48fps that means any game running above that will look smoother even if the framerate isn't locked down
gamer
it just needs 2 more hours of battery life and an oled screen and i agree
It literally has the biggest battery of any pc handheld yet lol 😂
There isn't an OLED screen that supports VRR that wouldn't make the system over $1000. VRR vs no VRR id keep the VRR
You're getting 3 hours of battery versus every single other device getting roughly an hour to an hour and a half on heavy AAA games
keep dreaming

I don’t understand what people have against Windows 😂 It’s great
How the hell did you manage to play valorant on a pc handheld!
why
Console version with controller support 👍
It runs Windows, so there's no issues with the anti-cheat, unlike the Steam Deck.
Sifu is not under rated
no dog in this race but crazy how steam deck oled still preferred over the new tech
Because it’s a overall better handheld experience
