    Chris, Nice job on the video. Never used a wire dipsey setup myself here on Lake Superior. Used braid but all and all haven't run a ton of dipsey up until last year. Then it even wasn't an everyday thing. But I do run 6 down riggers and my farthest forward ones are modified with long booms on them so they get in the way at time. I will probably try more dipsey rigs this summer as I had decent luck when I did run them. It is all ways good to try new things. My brother was better at it than me. I get in a groove and keep going with had worked in the past. But I am getting better at getting out of the box a little. Thank you for all the work you put into these.

    Hey thanks, Chris. I did ask for this video and its nice to see it happen. I was kind of hoping that you'd talk a little about the amount of tension you keep the wire at during the spooling. I have heard all kinds of different suggestions. And, guys say to put a tripped diver on and let it out behind the boat and reel it back to tension the spool properly. Your thoughts? Lastly, what about putting a large bead before the swivel to protect the tip in case someone accidentally reels it into the tip? Thanks again for all your help.

    • @tangledtacklefishing
      @tangledtacklefishing  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      If you don’t have a twilli tip the bead is a good idea. I use normal tension when spoiling this setup. After a few deployments it will tighten up even more.

    Hi Chris. Love your videos. I have a question. I run a boat in the Pacific Northwest. We do a lot of jigging for halibut and rockfish. We have quite a few rods set up with 30# reels and 50# braid. I know they wouldn’t be optimal but do you think those would work on the dipsy divers instead of the wire? I’ve been thinking about adding divers to our downrigger spread and, due to space constraints, would rather not get a whole dedicated wire setup. Thanks

    • @tangledtacklefishing
      @tangledtacklefishing  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Braid will do just fine on the diver rods. Don't use mono. It has too much stretch.

  • @kenvandermeer667

    Love your shows thanks. Question is you talk high low dipsey divers and one mag for low, one smaller for high. How much difference in height difference do you do. For example high at 40 ft and low at 60. Or is that to close. One more since I am switching to wire divers,. What is depth rule for mag 3 to one and since high is different size 2 to one

    • @tangledtacklefishing
      @tangledtacklefishing  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You can run the divers at any depth you like as long as the high diver is on the 3 setting and the low is on the 1 setting. There are times when both my divers are near each other in depth, but due to the different setting the high diver is much further away from the boat. The high diver is a 3/1 ratio and the low is 2/1.

    Chris, do you always run Flasher Flys or Meat Rigs on your divers? If you run spoons on the wire divers, do you put on a smaller swivel at the end of your leader verses the one your use to secure the flasher?

    What scenarios do you run a wire Dipsy (Dream Weaver)? I was seriously considering a pair. I fish mainly for walleye and figured it wasn't worth the hassle in at 50-65 feet and went for 65lb Power Pro on 9ft rods instead. I haven't fished with them yet.

    • @tangledtacklefishing
      @tangledtacklefishing  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      There are many out there that use wire for walleye. The wire puts out a distinct hum in the water that fish seem to cue in on.

    Do you suggest after spooling your wire on when you first get the new setup on the water running all the wire out then reel it back on to get it tight ?

    • @tangledtacklefishing
      @tangledtacklefishing  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I really don’t think it’s necessary but you certainly can if you want to. After a few times fishing with it you’ll find it has tightened up sufficiently.

    I used to use Bloodrun products, but not anymore. It started with their mono, I had multiple breakoffs, even with trying to release the line from the downrigger clip. Then on my wire divers, same thing. After losing fish and tackle, I got rid of all the Bloodrun garage and switched to other brands. No more breakoffs!!! So I feel it's just not "1 bad spool" it's across all off their line. Just my opinion.

    How much tension do you use when spooling on the wire? My wires always bird nest or cuts under itself....

    • @tangledtacklefishing
      @tangledtacklefishing  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Moderate tension. If you are getting bird's nests when deploying make sure you leave the clicker on so it deploys under some tension. Any time I'm going to let wire out, even if it's just to change baits, I make sure the clicker is on. Otherwise your going to have future bird's nests.

    You mention high diver and low divers in multiple videos. you mention that you run deeper diver 4 on your high and 5 on your low. Is that the only difference? Are you ever running lead core/ copper with your dipsies? And if so why and how much deeper will it get you. If you have already made a video explaining this let me know, thanks for the great content.

    • @tangledtacklefishing

      It's common practice, but the most important thing is to have your reel completely full and with the same amount of line on all diver reels. That gives you accurate and uniform depths.
