To clarify: There are at least 3 instances where it had been proven that Amber hit Johnny.
    1. At the top of the stairs she punched him in the face.
    2. Audio recording where she admits to hitting him not “punching”him.
    3. Audio recording Amber admitting
When he was locked in the bathroom, she kicked the door into his head, then punched him in jaw.
Also AH claimed JD of SA in her op Ed. Of which there is zero proof. And allegations are convoluted , ever changing, and without merit.
This is the worst kind defamatory allegation of all of her false claims.
Because it was allegations of a brutal sexual assault and crime.
This being untrue is the epitome of DEFAMATION and she most certainly should be held accountable for this!

@@LaLaLonna I don't know why exactly that Dr. G. would think that Johnny shouldn't win ?
Her physical/sexual allegations suspiciously lack objective physical evidence and corroborating witnesses.
Those two allegations now end careers in Hollywood, not drugs and alcohol. So Depp should also easily be able to prove that Heard's defamation cost him lucrative future roles.
Also, this is CIVIL court. The burden of proof is the much lower "preponderance of the evidence", not beyond a reasonable doubt.
That could be as little as a mere 51% certainty in jurors minds.

This is an excellent analysis. I agree with almost all of it. However, the one thing that struck me is that Depp had testified at length about the origins of his substance abuse and his struggles with it. Heard repeatedly used his substance abuse as a weapon against him in this trial. In my opinion, she overdid it to the point that even in her testimony she comes off as an abuser with a martyr complex. It was deeply cruel. I actually am related to a couple of women like this...very very skillful at pushing buttons and then assuming the martyr position. The fact that she had no real reason to stay with him (financial or because of children), her act doesn't ring true. She stayed because she liked Depp's money and her raised stature from being Depp's wife and not just a D level actress. Depp deserves a medal for exposing how men can be victims of domestic violence. I hope to never hear Amber Heard's name again. What a horrible ,horrible person. (And, BTW, the cut off finger happened exactly the way Depp described it...I'd bet my 401K on it).

I know the body language stuff isn’t an exact science, but just from my own experience working with victims it is strange to me how when she talks about evading or being hit, she mimics the one hitting. Just in my own experience, I’ve always witnessed aggressors using those motions, while a victim usually mimics their own evasion and/or will lean back as though reliving the strike as it hit them. It might mean something, it might mean nothing… I just want this to be over soon because of the impact I’m afraid of it having on peoples perceptions of abuse, abusers, and victims. Usually our views on things are pretty well aligned. For the most part, I agree with your assessment here except for one thing. If we assume that the objective evidence doesn’t support Amber’s story then we must conclude that she IS a devil. Falsely accusing someone of violent acts, rape, etc is nearly on the level of evil as committing those acts. It hinders the accused’s life and puts them in a situation where they could even potentially pay with their life (in prison or even suicide). It also discounts real victims of violence and SA. To me she comes across as conniving, manipulative, ego-centric, fake, cold-hearted, violent, and exploitative.

@@astridjaye6224 by BPD I meant borderline personality disorder. I'm not exactly certain that "manic episode" is the proper term for the manic behavior that BPD patients experience during their sudden and extreme swings in mood to be honest. It was just the phrase that came to mind that I believe mostly describes that type if behavior, but there may be a better term for that heightened agitated mental state. I do know that whereas bipolar disorder mood swings in one direction or the other usually last weeks to months before they swing in the other direction, whereas those severe swings can happen in those with borderline or histrionic within a matter of minutes, and those extremes can flip flop several times throughout the course of a single day.
Also, I'd like to say that I have been in DBT (a specialized type of therapy that was originally designed to manage borderline symptoms) for over 4 years now, and I'm happy and proud to report that I have not had a single outburst of mania or heightened emotional dysregulation since I started DBT.

I'm not sure I entirely agree with Dr. Grande's assessment of Johnny Depp being grandiose. I remember seeing the opposite from the first day of his testimony , this with little bias given it being day one and not really being in tune with the fact that there would be a trial to begin with. I wasn't even aware of all the drama and ups and downs leading up to this trial.
Honestly, while it may seem that there's no win on either side, legally many attorneys would actually disagree with the assessment that Johnny won't prove defamation.
I found quite interesting in what ways Dr. Grande was critical of Depp. Though I will say that while not an angel by any stretch, I wouldn't say Depp 'needs to grow up' a lot of his upbringing had a lot of trauma. When asked why he stayed in the relationship as long as he did, he said he stayed because he saw his father walk out on an albeit abusive wife. But that he somehow felt he could help Amber. I feel like that statement was so telling. When he said it, I really had a moment and its stuck with me because I've seen it with my own mother. My father was immensely abusive emotionally/psychologically to both her and I. It took her 25 years to walk away. My mom also lived thru DV growing up.
Depp was clearly troubled through substance use, but having seen a lot of the dysfunction of it in my own upbringing as well as having family with personality disorders and having to live with them as he did with Amber; I really do give Depp grace here. He wasn't recurring to drugs merely out of entitlement, he sought them to numb. This is even found when he was younger before becoming famous. I just feel off about putting him in the same grandiose and grow up outfit... much more of a wounded soul rather than entitlement. This even comes through in instances where he's under the influence.

Agree with you that Johnny was not grandiose. Everyone who has ever interacted with him talks about what a kind, sweet person he is. Amber's personal assistant testified about how Johnny would interact with her son, bring him gifts, etc. I think he has substance abuse issues for sure, but he would never achieve sobriety in this chaos around that wacko. In fact, I think she WANTED him on drugs as a means of controlling him. "Yeah I hit you BUT you're a junkie!" Able to argue that her issues are cancelled out by his issues...

correct. based on other evidence including that recording amber did not plan or intend to sever Johnny's finger, however amber did intentionnaly throw a bottle at johnny and she did intend for it to hit him. the first bottle missed him but the second bottle she threw crashed on the bar and a piece of it sliced tip of johnny's finger off. later when staff arrived at their residence including nurse and dr. kepper, amber for once actually faced a reality: the bottle she threw spliced johnny's finger and she was solely responsible for that. her reaction to this realization is what we hear on the recording. I believe it was amber not johnny who nearly had a nervous breakdown during this time, despitr johnny's testimony. I believe amber's audible heaving sobs and crying were in part because she did feel some guilt about hurting johnny but more importantly, she realized that with all those people present, including medical staff, her collection of recordings, pics, emails, etc. that she'd planned to use against johnny to siphon money from him for DV, was now in the toilet. Now she, Amber, could also be accused of DV.

The trial has been emotional and brought up some really bad memories for me of when my wife would verbally and physically abuse me. Being an abuse man especially by a narcissist is a horrible helpless feeling my wife would act like she was so nice and sweet in front of other people but when we were alone she was constantly putting me down telling me pretty much everything I did was wrong and what a horrible person I was and if I wouldn’t engage in the argument she would resort to physical violence. After several years of her abuse I finally told her the next time she hit me I was going to call the police on her the next time she hit me I did call the police I believe it was three or four times I have had to call the police on her, I would just simply ask the police if they would be able to calm her down and prevent any physical violence I never told the police she was hitting me just that she had been out of control. It was horrible it was confusing she would convince me that I somehow did something wrong and that she was reacting to whatever mistake I made and that I was somehow instigating her anger. It took years of me trying to make her happy before I realized it wasn’t me people ask why do you stay with someone like that I could only say unless you have been in our situation you won’t understand it comes on slowly and when they are apologizing for their behavior and promising it will never happen again you want to believe them and then they could be extremely nice to you which creates additional confusion. The other thing is I came from a very very abusive childhood where I was constantly told what a terrible piece of shit I was by my father and my older brother so when my wife was telling me the same things they told me I had to be sure it wasn’t me. She would be so abusive and then cry and look so sad that I would feel bad for her and that would make me think I must’ve done something wrong. Just like Johnny our children are a lot smarter than I am they asked me many many times why are you so nice to mom when she’s so mean to you I got to the point when I went shopping for Christmas Mother’s Day or birthdays they would go with me and not allow me to buy her anything too nice or too expensive because she didn’t deserve it. I had tried to make her happy for so long and I was also afraid to make her mad, in the end when my girls got older they sat me down and told me it was time to have their mom move out and find someone that what does it mean to me and know what it’s like to be loved not being abused and being surrounded by people that are nice to you and love you is a wonderful wonderful thing. No one deserves to be verbally or physically abused we all deserve to be treated with respect kindness and love especially from our spouses.

Just consider that she has a strong case of personality disorder. I really do believe she does (go check Borderline PD symptoms). My point being : from *her* perspective, her psychological pain and distress caused by fear of abandonment is very real. So, she truly feels she was abused. And of course, being narcisistic, she just can't blame who she is for it. It's very telling that she never, ever takes responsibility for any of her actions, always shifting the blame, never admitting that she could be wrong. She'd rather delude herself than looking at her true self in the mirror. I pity her...
It's tough to understand unless you've been confronted to such personalities. I've been. To me a) she was sincere about being abused b) reality is they triggered and fed one another's issues c) the defamation is real, even if mutual abuse (the evidence we saw shows that J.D. violence was mostly turned towards himself, and when turned towards AH - cursing, breaking stuff - it was very mild in comparison).
I'm very scared of the message it would send to the world if J.D. loses the case. How f*inkg perfect a man is now supposed to be/behave to handle mean or ill willed women, just to save themselves. I mean... this is not the kind of empowerment I wish women to get from fighting the real issue that is domestic violence.

There is little room to argue Amber wasn't at fault for the finger incident because there is a video of medical professionals talking about the incident minutes/hours after where the story is already that Amber did it. She's screaming in the background like she's having a full on mental breakdown, the doctor even said to sedate her. So unless they both came up with this lie while she was in the middle of hysteria and his finger was severed with the tip nowhere to be found I think that is actually what happened.

    • @barbaraobach
      @barbaraobach 2 ปีที่แล้ว +7

And she was having a breakdown because she knew if Depp pressed charges, Australian officials would arrest her, they don't play over there, and you hear the doctor saying 'we'll cover what happened ' and Heard saying 'I'm sorry' ,but it would be rare for someone attacked with a bottle to be 'taping the whole thing' the women and her mostly sleazy bitter about losing a free parting witnesses are lying,
and for the makeup artist clearly close to Amber, to say a simple pink concealor and red lipstick would cover bruising and lip swelling is lying to,
the closest to credible witness was the acting coach, who was tilting to covering for her by saying 'Amber can't cry fake tears ',

    • @hopelessromantic3786
      @hopelessromantic3786 2 ปีที่แล้ว +9

@@barbaraobach I have attempted to cover a hurt lip with lipstick before. I will say I tried that exact shade of red she's wearing in the interview and it was too light to cover it, you could still see a darker mark underneath. I had to use a much darker shade. Not to mention she claimed it split when she spoke but she seemed to have no troubles speaking during the interview including when she opened her mouth as wide as possible for the thumbnail. Definitely doesn't really fit what she claimed her injuries were at the time.
I thought the friend seem reliable enough. The one who testified Johnny never got physical with Amber but when he was intoxicated got loud and mean sometimes. It felt biased but for the most part believable especially with the evidence we have seen already. Most of Amber's witnesses feel very biased to me though. The makeup artist particularly testified to something completely different than what a previous stylist had testified to. One of them *must* be lying unless Amber's bruises can magically appear and disappear.
I also find it incredibly interesting that in the recording the medical professionals seem to have no worry for Amber's physical condition considering at the time she alleges she had just been SA'd with a bottle. I would think something like that would have been extremely hard to hide from a doctor so soon after the alleged incident. I'd think she'd still have been bleeding at that point, or at the very least in severe physical pain.

They also upped her regular dose of Seroquel, an atypical antipsychotic medication used for the treatment of schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, and major depressive disorder esp. involving hallucinations, add the 2 bottles of wine a day (and that is double the effect it would be on a man), MDMA, mushrooms - taking hallucinogens with anti-hallucinogens? She was an addict herself, and her drug interactions alone would cast her story into doubt.
But I have watched everything without commentary as much as possible and I just can't believe her - those tapes just ring in my head. They're terrifying.
Her sister also confessed she herself was never sober, so why is her testimony more valid than that of Depp, who they try to claim may not remember the incidents or recall properly?
I wish them both good mental health and treatment but in this case, yeah I do think AH is the aggressor and I do think this is defamation. I have yet to see any proof he physically abused her. And I've really watched and listened. Her own witnesses never saw a thing, and Ellen Barkin admitted he never attacked her, was not fighting with her, the bottle wasn't aimed at and hit nobody and wasn't thrown but "tossed". And Rocky admits AH hit her? Her ex-PA describes workplace bullying and abuse and clearly without any excitement to be there, as well as calling Whitney her sister's punching bag? The crazy thing about this trial is how heavily the EVIDENCE supports one side. Tapes, photos, witnesses, what is presented, and what is absent - ie. the metadata that backs up any evidence AH has. She gave a lot of metadata about absolute garbage to the court liaison, but nothing pertaining to the photos used at trial - which therefore lack timestamps and have been clearly put through processing, where not likely staged entirely, going by the bodycam.

One thing I noticed early on from Johnny was his description of Amber, saying that she was perfect. That she liked the same literature as he did, and the same kind of Blues music, among other things. I believe that Amber planned out everything. It would take a little detective work, but she could’ve found out most if not all of his likes and dislikes before she began her pursuit of Johnny. I find it almost impossible to believe that she liked the same literature and the same type of Blues music as him, especially given her age. What Johnny saw in her was himself so it’s no wonder he thought she was perfect.

I badly injured my ring finger in my left hand in a high velocity accident (door handle smashing it against a pole/bar thing) and the damage is REMARKABLY similar. When he was telling that story I got chills. That is exactly how it happens, and the similarities are uncanny. I’m telling you, that story is true. My poor finger never recovered and it was traumatic. Also- multiple witnesses testified that she repeatedly threw things at him. What are the odds that he came up with that story and got the details exactly right? That is exactly the damage you sustain when somebody throws something hard at your finger and your finger is resting on a hard surface.

I've had the opportunity to be able to watch this case but, I found out early on that it triggers me every time I try. It is easier to follow it by watching with the live chat so I don’t have to focus on it so much. As a survivor of DV I find myself sympathizing for Johnny, and triggered by Amber. When you've gone through it there is this "knowing" of who is the perpetrator and who is the victim. I believe Amber was a victim in her childhood, and as a result suffers from severe personality disorders. It's hard to sympathize with her because I see the abuser in her. I see alot of pain in Johnny, but, I see more of an inward suffering versus being outwardly abusive. And there is more than enough evidence to support what I see. I didn't hear that either of them are currently working with a therapist, which I believe both would benefit greatly. Johnny needs justice for what she did to him, his children, his career. And not only that but to show that men are just as worthy of justice for DV as women. I've been involved in DV support groups and where I live there is little to no groups specifically for men. That needs to change so that more men can come forward and seek the same support as women.

My husband had an alcoholic father. My husband hates alcohol, drugs, so forth, as he saw what alcohol did to their family. However, his older brother did drink to excess and did drugs. Same household, different outcome. I believe the same is true for abuse, and I guess you could call alcoholism abuse to an extent.

She is clearly taunting and belittling him- not a very wise move to poke the so called “monster.” She doesn’t seem to be afraid of him at all. Another thing that bugs me is the lack of medical records to back up her accusations of physical abuse. If she had doctors on the stand that treated her with X-rays, it would be difficult for Johnny to overcome something like this. But, unfortunately she never sought treatment after an altercation. This leads me to believe that the photos of the bruises could very well be created with makeup. It almost looks like her documentation of their marriage through photos and recordings we’re all part of a deliberate set up. We may never know the truth about all this, but one thing’s for certain, their relationship quickly went from wonderful to a steaming pile at warp speed.

I can't get over the fact that in several incidents where she claims violence, she was on a hallucinogenic substance, aka magic mushrooms. That can't just be glossed over. I don't believe her claims anyway, and I've been watching the trial from the beginning, went in with an open mind, but the use of hallucinogens made me even more skeptical.
I also actually do believe that she is directly responsible for his severed finger tip. The injury was a velocity based wound, and it shattered the tip of his finger which is visible from x-rays. Another reason I don't believe her version of events is we have two directly competing versions of this event from A) Amber herself and B) Her acting coach... who Amber told about the incident. Amber herself claims that Johnny injured his finger by repeatedly smashing a phone against the wall. Plausible? I guess, if not for the competing/contradicting testimony. Her acting coach on the other hand testified that Amber told her that Johnny did it by smashing a bottle on the counter-top and then messing with it after it had broken and cut himself. Again, not a plausible story since this was a velocity wound that broke bone. The cut and the break occurred at the same instant, and the thrown glass bottle which directly impacted his finger resting against a hard surface with no GIVE is the most plausible theory to ME.
On top of all of that, the aftermath of the argument in Australia was recorded, and you can hear what's transpiring as Ben King, Jerry Judge and others are surveying the damage. In that audio, Amber is heard clearly saying "I didn't do it on purpose" "I didn't mean to hurt him" and desperately pleading for her to be allowed to go with him to the hospital. "He needs me!" she repeats numerous times. That audio recording is wild to listen to, just like all the rest of the recorded audio. Frankly, the audio is the most compelling evidence presented in this trial because it directly shows the state of mind of both individuals DURING their relationship and arguments, not 6+ years later.

Sadly that audio in Australia you're talking about where Amber is essentially confessing to hurting him and is super emotional was never admitted into evidence, so the jury hasn't heard it. It is definitely the strongest objective evidence and the worst recording for her. I don't know if they can't use stuff with multiple people on the recording no matter what, or only can if every one of them testifies and verfies? And thus can they not use it since Jerry Judge is deceased? Whatever the reason is it REALLY sucks they won't hear it, it's the smoking gun that 1) she's abusive 2) he *isn't* and her insane story of him beating the crap out of her and the SA, simply couldn't have happened, not even close. If her story were true she'd have had to be sent to the ER immediately, way before him.
I really wish they could figure out a way to get the recording in! Sometimes the "rules of evidence" really piss me off, like- why can you not just let the jury have all the info?!

The perjury testimony yesterday was truly baffling, I don't know why Amber's team in their right mind would introduce that into evidence. Here is a nice polite honest seeming lawyer telling the jury that he believed your client was guilty of perjury and he was so sure of this that he took a binder full of evidence to the LAPD. I know it's for the counterclaim but that suit on its face is so bad that they should just ignore that issue and focus on just not losing. Having 'super lawyer' testify that it absolutely couldn't be defamation because "I'm a smart smart and I made extra sure that she couldn't be sued over it" probably just pissed the jury off even more as it's this guy's fault that they are there, it shows that Amber knew what she was getting into by writing the article in this way, and that there is a whole cabal of people who prop up Amber as something she isn't, even writing her op-eds for her.

    • @VesiustheBoneCruncher

Super lawyer is an idiot. The correct advice, legal or otherwise was “don’t publish this article, it’s bad for literally everyone including you”.
I mean forget for a second whether it’s true or false, defamatory or not; publishing it was objectively a really, really bad move.

Interesting and insightful as always, Dr. Grande.
One perspevtive I would have liked to see you explore, is the possibility of Heard being psychologically abusive towards Depp throughout their relationship. The personality disorders atributed to Heard by Dr. Curry do have a strong corrolation towards manipulative behaviours. In addition we know Heards friends and family were strongly involved - in fact residing in the penthouse complex having master keys giving them access to all apartments.
Furthermore there is evidence of Heard continuing to use substances and alcohol around Depp while he was trying to achieve sobriety, and circumstancual evidence that Heard denied Depp medication for withdrawal when he was working to discontinue his use of prescription medication (oxy?).
In addition to this, Heards 'bickering' with Vasquez (Depps lawyer) on the stand clearly paints a picture of someone utterly impossible to argue with. I'm not prone to drinking, but I strongly suspect I would have needed more than a stiff one to deal with that.

My mother and father's relationship is almost exactly like AH and JD's. My mother is abusive physically, mentally and emotionally. She's manipulative and will lie or over exaggerates her stories. She started fights and wouldn't let my dad walk away. So he would just sit there silently. Stoically. For 30 years. He never once hit her. He rarely raised his voice, and he took us aside after she would say the worst things to me just to explain she didn't mean it. I've lived with a woman like Amber.

I think he was jealous with good reason. Amber is a class-A flirt who loves attention and isn't shy about getting it. Her cozying up to others who are supposedly only 'friends' is being a tease. She's showing no consideration to these friends at all if she's really only a friend.
JD had every reason to suspect Amber would continue with business as usual. She came on to him when he was still attached and she was attached. That said, JD is a flirt, too.

It really comes down on what the jury will decide DV is. If they agree it is just physical, he has a good chance on winning, unless AH's team has something big in their pocket. If they include the psychical, the shouting etc, then he will likely lose 2 of the 3 claims.
He is very likely to win the SA one.
Going into this case I was convinced it can not be won, because defamation is so hard to win. But even so, if he wins, it is more AH losing it, than anything else. He has a great legal team, but it was still AH's on stand behavior that made it a realistic possibility to talk about JD winning all claims.

I honestly don’t think he hit her either. Some of her friends testified to bruising and that she said he hit her, but none saw him. He could’ve, but I’m not sold on that. Some of those pictures of her “ injuries” could be self-inflicted or resulted from her fighting him, or he trying to get her off of him. We just don’t know. Also, after looking at the photos myself, at least one of them ( of those that were released to People magazine when the abuse allegations came out) looks doctored. One eye on one side shot looks bigger, like there was a sloppy job done on photoshop editing. But, then again, I don’t know if his legal team was able or is still looking into that possibility. Depp had a wonderful 14 year relationship to Paradis according to Vanessa. 4 years with Winona and a long relationship with Moss. Heard is the problem. The hysterics in the video where she said" You are killing me" was because he wanted to see his daughter for 2 hours...she was jealous of his daughter.
If you watch her 2016 deposition she is rolling her eyes, and smirking. THEN she claimed it was because the lawyers were laughing at her, yet you cannot hear any laughter. She claimed in an interview that $7 million had been donated (past tense).
Johnny is not entitled. He worked hard for everything he has. He let all her loser friends live for free at his homes. Amber is not friends with any of these people anymore.
Those bruises are from botox and filler. One is a huge pimple on her face.

If you look closely, theres a folding knife nestled in a crease in the sheets that would have more effectively split the hard wood of the bedframe than a leather or rubber soled boot. Also, the heel would have been most able to split the wood (not as much leverage in the toe) so he would gave been facing away from the head of the bed, and so not attacking her when it happened. My vote is the wood was split after whatever happened with the knife on the bed for a photo opportunity.

It was clear that it required the use of a knife, or some other similar instrument. A boot even a workman's boot with steel toe caps and heels was not sharp enough to instigate the split. It required something sharp pushed in and then waggled around to gain purchase, and finally used as a lever to force the wood to split. Very little physical force was needed, but the right tool was..........and what was lying on the bed? Looked like a knife to me.
