      Masks are a great example. I bet as a parent you forced your child to do that. Masks have never shown any ability to control viruses and only have emotional manipulation and group think to enforce it. So, if you made your kid wear a mask you are capable of joining a cult like this because it appeals to the same thought processes.

    I lived on the Upper West Side of Manhattan for many years, so I remember the Sullivanians very well. One of their members, Dr. Lenora Fulani, did run for political office, here in New York City on the Worker Party platform. She's in her seventies now, and there's been virtually no public profile of her in quite some time, but in the eighties, she was quite popular in political circles. The Village Voice newspaper did a well researched article on the Sullivanians many years ago. I remember them very well.

      The thing is, as with most cults and dogmatic organizations, a lot of people do like to follow authority and get guidance. We also like to feel part of a community.
      Going out of the cult sphere for a moment, the vast majority of Germans during WW2, weren't raging racists, but they still went along with the Nazis because such is the power of society and authority.

Which are you, a Democrat, the party that's running us head long into socialist tyranny? Or maybe you're a Republican, the party that's marching us there more slowly. Perhaps you're one of those people who doesn't vote at all. Because both sides are awful. Thank you for an interesting video, Dr Grande.
    My grandfather was supposedly a communist. At least he called himself one.
    Supposedly full of liberal ideas, new ideas, considered quite progressive for the time. He was educated at Princeton and at the University of Munich in the 1920s. He was genuinely active in the American communist party in the Thirties. He inherited a great deal of money which he squandered on high living and basically threw away. He never worked a job in his life. From what I can tell most of what he did for the communists was talk and instigate low-level "social disobedience." He was basically a mid-range rabble-rouser squat-stirrer.
    I heard many stories about him as I was growing up. As I matured and listened more carefully to the stories about him that my mother and her sisters told, I finally realized he was not so much a genuine communist who cared about the workers of the world uniting as he was masking a massive superiority complex and sense of entitlement behind a supposed support for a "new world order." (@@.) His communism was a masquerade to feed his ego. Everything he ever espoused was ultimately only self-serving.
    Eventually (particularly after I grew up and read some of his letters) I came to realize my grandfather was full of hate - he didn't so much love the poor and want to help them as he bitterly envied the rich and wanted to have even more of what they had.
    The worst part of it, to my eyes, is that in the process of living out this personal agenda my grandfather cruelly neglected and abused his wife and daughters in many ways. Their lives were basically a nightmare until his death. In his effort to fulfill his personal agenda, the damage my grandfather inflicted on my family still echoes today. We are still recovering from what he did. I have to wonder if this Saul Newton and his Sullivanians also left ripples of destruction behind them after they died. I sure hope not, but I wonder.

    • @BunnySlippers82
      @BunnySlippers82 2 ปีที่แล้ว +24

      What a fascinating yet tragic story you shared regarding your grandfather. I've often wondered how many of the younger generation who have protested publicly their similar politial beliefs have felt the same way as your grandfather. It's not so much compassion for the poor as much as it is trying to hurt successful, self-made people, as well as this notion that they'd be on the receiving end of the fall-out and would have the upper hand. There seems to be a lot of hate and jealousy with this mindset, like you mentioned. I hope your family has been able to heal and has gone on to lead happy, productive lives.

    Even though cults are abhorrent, they do provide a sense a community and idealism that many people identify themselves with. However, that’s only a fantasy which most of the time does more harm than good. It robs people of seeing reality as it is and it also deprives them of appropriate tools to face the world. I have seen many stories of people who left cults, and the damage is real. I have also seen some success stories, people who rebuilt their entire lives after being in cults since birth.
    In regards to this particular cult, their ideas were really out there. I disagree with each single idea they proposed.

      I don't know if you're old enough to remember how bad cults got in the late seventies and early eighties. There seemed to be so many, that sucked in the kids of rather successful people. It seemed as profitable, to be a deprogrammer, and go in and kidnap these young adults, and get them back to reality, as it was to be a cult leader. It was a huge indicator of how we had broken down as a civilization.

They wanted power over anyone who employed them. They actually told me they would 'allow'me to go to europe. At the time I just stared blankly and it didn't occur to me until years later their delusioned ideas. Hopefully they aren't still following me around or something. Yikes! I only had three sessions with a woman at their office who seemed to have to run everything by her husband. I went back to find the office years later they had vanished. I wanted to find out who they were after thinking how wierd they were. Anybody who wants that kind of control over vulnerable people are creepy. Maybe he was a spoiled, narcissist who found an ideology to channel his unprocessed issues into and avoid his problems whilst still being convinced he was a good person, 'on the side of history' and helping rather than dealing with his problems like a proper grown up boy.

      Charles Manson would take children away from couples in his cult and give them to another couple to raise instead because he said parents were inherently harmful to their children. Is it really a surprise when you consider how his own parents were? Not really. But who knows? Could be as simple as Saul was a contrarian to mainstream beliefs and it was just another way of holding power over people. Could be his parents were totally normal and he was just a bad person. Definitely interesting how people will take an ideology and use it to harm others.

      Rejection of the nuclear family in favor of “community raising” is a common trope of the far left. The reason is that they see the nuclear family as enabling the capitalist system and unable to raise children to be good communists
