  • Join me as we shoot 22 WMR ammunition out of a CZ 452 BRNO Varmint and Savage B22 Magnum Heavy Barrel, comparing how they group at 100 yards. We try out Norma 40gr, Federal 50gr, Winchester Supreme 34gr, CCI Gamepoint and CCI Maxi-Mag 40gr and Remington 40gr.

    Well done & entertaining test. I've seen both videos. By the way, my new Savage 93FV consistently prints 100 yd. MOA 5-shot groups with CCI Maxi-Mag 40-gr. HP. Thanks for sharing!

      Thanks for the kind words James. I plan on working on the trigger for my B22 magnum to see if I can lighten it up a bit more. Should help me tighten up those groups. I'll need to give those Maxi-Mag 40 grain another try!

    Wow...I didn't expect that big of a difference between the 30 and 50 grain. But it makes sense being almost twice as heavy. Thanks for another great upload.

      Those 20 grains made a huge difference in the point of impact. I usually sight in my rifles for a particular round it likes, but it is also good to have keep notes in case you want to switch out ammo. Also, some rimfire scopes have reticles with markings where you can figure out which to use at what distance depending on load.

    Good video, I’ve been watching people shoot pistol rounds through a rifle and vice versa. I use hornady 30gr and cci 40 varmint jhp. The 30 gr are exactly 3 inches high at 100, makes grouping easy. Took me a minute to find out I was the problem lol

    • @texmexshoots
      @texmexshoots  3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Thanks for watching Bryan! Yeah, that's why I tend to try and find which bullet weight the rifle/pistol likes the best and then sight it in for that. I like that Hornady 30gr. It tends to shoot well out of most of my firearms. Except my Henry which likes the Federal 50gr.

    This was a well done review. They are two very nice looking rifles. I have a CZ 457 American in 22lr. I love CZ's stocks and accuracy. It looked like both rifles liked the CCI and the Federal 50gr.

      Thanks again Karen! I have a special place in my heart for 22 magnum. It's one of my favorite rounds. That's why I have multiple rifles in that chamber, trying to get something that will give me MOA or better at 100 yards. Not an easy feat with 22 mag.

  • @mtkz13
    @mtkz13 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    Federal 50gr. grouped very well. The added weight of the bullet might have stabilized it better at that yardage.

      I agree, I need to get my hands on more of that ammo and group it some more.

    I have seen dime groups out of the Remington, but they were the 40 grain hollow points. Most of Federal ammo in any caliper shoots better than average. Good video, do not worry about the OKs, OK? Looking for Part 2.

    • @texmexshoots
      @texmexshoots  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks moodymac! 22 Magnums really do seem to be as finicky as 22 long rifles. Luckily unlike a few years ago, there is plenty of ammo out there now to test. Thanks for watching!

    I also have put thousands of 22 down range: using a Marlin 39A with 3-9 Leopoldo shooting the CCI Stinger a 33gr bullet at 100 yards. The accuracy of this combo is amazing averaging about 1 1/2 inches groups. The velocity is 1650 and the Marlin has the micro groove rifling

    • @texmexshoots
      @texmexshoots  9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      That micro grooving does make for some accurate rifles. That is great accuracy for Singers at 100 yards. Love the model 39A. Had a scope on mine too for a while. Need to do a video with it here soon.

    Great practical review. I’ve had the savage currently have the CZ. I like the camera set up and audio was great. I like the video and I have a TH-cam channel myself. If you’re like me I always go back and review my videos and see what I could have done better. I always said um a lot. LOL so when you said you say ok too much I knew what you were talking about. LOL over years I have also figured out I talked too much. Some times less is more. I look at it like this, did people need to hear what I just said, a lot of what I would say didn’t contribute to the video and just made it longer. So I try to keep it short and sweet. Just food for thought. Again I liked your video good information! Thanks!

    • @texmexshoots
      @texmexshoots  5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Thanks Gixerman! I appreciate the advice. I have just come to terms with the fact that people are going to fast forward through most of my video 🤣
      Now I try to edit out a good bit of my "uuums" but then hope the video doesn't seem too jumpy. That's one of the reasons I like keeping my camera stationary if possible, it makes it easier to edit out parts.
      Ultimately I make these videos for fun. But I have learned quite a bit about the way I speak and editing software. And the learning continues.

      @@texmexshoots by the way I just got back from the range. Cold day here in Indiana! My CZ and my buddies Marlin both shot the Hornady v-max 30 grain bullets great. I had some good groups with the cci varmint and federal Speer. The Hornady stuff gave me dime size groups at a hundred yards. I will be snagging up all that I can find.
      To your point about doing it for fun, I started that way but then started making some ok money. I do a lot of gun stuff but won’t make videos on it for my channel because I don’t want get my channel demonetized. Otherwise I would have tons of content. I’m glad there are guys like you still putting content up on guns anyway. Take care and good shooting

      @@gixerman01 Thanks! The V-Max is great stuff. The only rifle I have that doesn't like it is my Henry 22mag. It seems to prefer the heavier loads.
      Yeah, I get what you are saying about demonetization. I haven't monetized my channel. For now I've decided to keep it as a labor of love for various reasons. I never expected to have as many subscribers as I do and don't expect my channel will grow too much bigger.
      My very best wishes for you in keeping your channel growing! I've subscribed.

    You should sight in for the Federal and reshoot them. Would also be nice to see the difference between 50 yd. and 100 yd. with them. For hunting I would like the 50 gr. for foxes and coyotes as bough seem to be getting bigger than what I remember as a boy. As soon as it warms up hear I will be out with the Savage 93 F and looking in to the Savage B22 Magnum FVSS .22 WMR Getting hard to get .22 mag Ammo hear, so giving it some though about a second rifle in it.

      Thanks for watching. That is a great suggestion to compare 50 and 100 yard accuracy. This test was mainly to see which ammunition they preferred. But it would be good to see how tight I could keep the groups a little further out.

    Over 100 yards, I have seen a difference of 10 inches between 30 and 40 grain WMR ammo, with the same poa, but a very different poi!

      @texmexshoots  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Thanks for watching Adam! It really is amazing the difference in performance between different 22mag ammo out of certain rifles. It's a great feeling when you finally find that one load it really likes.

    I had similar experience...the best shooting (group wise) was the federal. And the cci was mid range. The worst was the winchester dyna point. I wish I didn't buy 250 rounds of it haha...might have to get a 22mag pistol or something

    Give you credit for using nice clean visible targets which clearly show bullet impact...👍👍 most shooting vids are shot at trash targets or hand scratched lines on paper plates... usually leave those places after 1 or 2shots no matter the weapon...!!

      @texmexshoots  ปีที่แล้ว

      I appreciate that Coach! I've tried to improve my videos over this last year of posting stuff and I enjoy the split screen shooting / target impact scenes. It's all about getting the timing right in editing. Plus I am a big believer in using good targets that show impacts well. Makes it easier to record and looks nice when comparing groups.

    Interesting.
    Where’s the old original Winchester .22 wmr 40 grain JHP at 1910 fps stand in your accuracy test?
    I have an old rechambered Remington single shot and a Marlin 25MN .22wmr rifles and both of them shoot the Winchester 40 grain bullets listed at 1910 fps significantly tighter than any other load. Just wondering of your results with it.

    • @texmexshoots
      @texmexshoots  4 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Thanks for watching Skip! If you are referring to the old grey box of Super X 40 grain hollow points, I have had good experience with them out of multiple firearms, including 22 mag revolvers like the single six. It has always been one of my go-to loadings.

    What would you recommend for a 50 grain round, .22 Mag WMR in a S&W .22Mag

    • @texmexshoots
      @texmexshoots  6 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

      Thanks for watching John! Federal is the only manufacturer that I know of that makes 50 grain 22 magnum ammunition. Although they make a couple of different types. There is a bulk pack and the game shock 50 round boxes. If you can get your hands on some I would test it out of your pistol to see if it will group well.

    If the Winchester was $8.99 then, about how much is it now?

    • @texmexshoots
      @texmexshoots  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      When I bought that ammo, $8.99 was overpriced but it was only available at a particular gun store. Now apparently it has been discontinued, but last listed price I saw was $17
