    Sorin, I suggest you use a lower voltage for finding shorts
    If the high side mosfet of the Vcore supply is shorted, you would inject 19V directly to the processor and fry it.
    Just inject 1V or 2V.
    BTW I purchased a UTI690B IR camera. This is a high definition device for under 300 euros. Highly recommended (with an additional macro lens)
    Thanks again for your precious videos

    • @gorky_vk
      @gorky_vk 3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      if high side is shorted CPU is already dead, he can't kill it twice. Protection will kick in (unless Sorin removed it before in previous repair ofc :)) in case of short but too late to save any modern CPU.

    • @kas262
      @kas262 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@gorky_vk Interesting point, thanks.
      In that case, a shorted Vcore high side mosfet would imply the death of any modern laptop with soldered processor.
      I am still under the impression that the protection features would detect the shorted high side mosfet and cut the 19V supply _before_ the processor is toasted.
      Any other opinions on this specific situation ??

    • @rossmoodley9407
      @rossmoodley9407 ปีที่แล้ว

      The protection provably did detect short on main rail hence the reason laptop not coming on.What is dangerous is to then inject 19V without first checking cpu vcore buck regulator for stuck mosfets eg sending voltage when it should not.If you inject 19v you just destroyed cpu.Start by checking all power rail coils for shorts an if injecting voltage start with lowest value like 0.8vJust my opinion and learnt from a bad experience.

I wonder who would pay for the screen if it got damaged by applying the voltage to find a short?? Obviously customer!! Believe me, I work with lots of laptops after other “repair” shops who made more damage to clients devices. I agree that all engineers do mistakes, but not all of them pay fo their mistakes. What I'm doing when devices don't wanna start, is unplug everything that is not needed to boot up / power-up. If that is not working, the next procedure is to reset it if I can, laptops, PCs we can, and other devices with batteries. With laptops and batteries, we don't need an HDD/SSD, or wifi, optical drive, so, I'd disconnect it all. It saved me many times a lot of time :).

      I would recommend starting "general repair" e.g screen repairs first and then after you have gotten used to that, you can move onto learning microsoldering. There are plenty of resources online like Sorin's channel which you can learn from.
      I would reccomend first getting this practical experience. Then if you want to you can find work at a repair shop or start your own repair business. But remember that if you go start your own repair business that there will probably be a lot of competition between you and other repair businesses. Having that practical experience and showing your customers that you are better than another repair shop will encourage them to go to you.
      Hope this helps!😁

Battery correctly charged 99% with the laptop

Wrong cable will most likely looks like fume vape and you will smell it. Did you feel connector hot before messing about? You should check cable where it is hot otherwise it is screen or conection to screen. Disassembling of cable seems to me wasted time without checking its temperature.
