3 years later and you helped me diagnose and repair a HP Dv7 I bought for almost nothing due to being "dead". Thank you so much, your videos were extremely helpful and encouraging for me. Cheers and love from Argentina

Just fixed my first motherboard, thanks to this channel. Mosfet had blown due to voltage being injected into the Ethernet port. Switched it out with one from a parts board and even though 2 of the pads were damaged it still worked when I bridged the three pins together, they were connected originally anyway, and it seems to be working now.

Not too long ago my friend brought a Toshiba laptop to me to fix for him. He told me it has been repaired two years ago and when i took it apart i found a big piece of copper wire across one of the 19V mosfets. Turns out one of the mosfets shorted out and the previous guy who fixed the board put a wire across one of the mosfets that didn't short out so basically the protection circuit was completely omitted. All it took to fix the board was to replace the one shorted out mosfet with a working one and the laptop works fine now and for a cheap budget laptop it has a great keyboard.

I'm an electrical engineer, long retired. You are the best technician I ever met. I love fixing things myself too. That's why my refrigerator is 35 years old, my electric stove 35 years old, etc. I fixed the electrical power display on my stove so many times, using two broken displays to fix one. My Porsche 944 lasted 550,000 miles. Anyway, I wish you could show a video reading the pins off a USB power connector in my Dell 9365. Good luck. I'd send you my Dell, but you're in the UK, correct?

Hi Sorin, I missed this one in Nov. A really good one for me as I just watched your motherboard videos, it's all making much more sense! One thing I am having a problem with still is the recognition of some of the other 6 or 8 legged chips as you go around finding the power supplies. What are they? (I can't be the only one surely), my excuse is I didn't
start leaning this stuff until I was 74 yrs old. Since this job came in as a MB are you sure he is not one of your applying
the power supply here or there students?

I know this is old, but I hope you still read questions. You have 19 volts on one side of the cap after the mosfet, what do you read on the other side of the of the cap. I have a video card where it has2 pin(3 pins but the center drain is cut off) and I get 12 volts at the drain but nothing out of the Source. There are 7 of these right together . 2 of them read 12 volts in, nothing out and nothing on the rest at all. I tried to check the caps as you did to check for short but I don't know what I should read on the second side of the cap. Should it be the same on both sides of the cap? If you find the time I hope you could tell me about the other side of the cap and or what to look for. I just purchased another of these boards so that I will have something to compare to. Thanks for your videos.

Is it acceptable to have "a short" signal through the secondary Mosfet's beside "the coil", even when the gate is drained or grounded to close the gate? Are some Mosfet's designed to sound as a short between the two sides of a Mosfet that is not the gate?

I checked my HP motherboard and the path on the power rail checked out ok until the 2nd mosfet which had no output voltage. Does that mean that the startup chip doing it's job and shutting things down or perhaps the mosfet is faulty or because there is a fault downstream? if so then taking out 2nd mosfet and replacing with a wire would do no good...correct?

Any suggestions when a motherboard has no power, no charge, works on battery and the 1st and 2nd mosfets have been replaced. A BQ24725 is driving the gates for approx 20ms and then turns them off. 1.3s later the gate turns on again... etc... Jumping the 1st mosfet makes the laptop work but I noticed a very heavy current draw when the battery and AC charger are plugged with the bridge in place. Checked all caps and resistors to gate, ACdetect, etc...
