      Yes you're right. That cap looks bad but it's testing good. I ended up changing the Mosfets again this morning along with that bad looking cap. Short was gone like before. I powered on the device and Mosfets went bad again. Laptop is going back to the customer unfixed unfortunately. .

      @@NorthridgeFix this is VCC_CORE core line where blown resistor and capacitor you got the short. Most likely a rare event happened - cpu itself is shorted. IC is battery charge controller. And mosftest near by IC gives VIN line

      Was going mention that cap amazing work as always HP should seriously offer you a consultation job to help them design better labtops you seem to always be fixing these things and would have a great many ways to help them improve this line.

      @ARI GOLD EXPERIENCE but it's sad coz I have a laptop with a similar problem that, similarly, led me to a rabbit hole. I think the processor might be shut, in my case :( I had great hopes that this would give me some pointers. Nice video, tho ;)

    When I do stuff like this it is real hard to give up, even if it is no longer cost effective to repair... I respect your ability to say "No Fix" and move on.... I need to learn from you on that I think. :)

    I think your work is amazing. Some of the process you use today were simply not available when I went through college, and I totally respect the new advantage processes I'm learning. I think your skills are spot on, to the point, and well equipped to get it done the best way possible. If you say it's a no fix, after learning what all you go through here, I more than respect that. It's not time effective.

    high respect to show these repairs ( fix or no fix ). Your expertise has te be paid anyway. After watching your videos, i feel more confident for my own small repair shop. Im often presented challenges. Sometimes im too afraid to even start the repair. But after watching this, even a no fix seems acceptable.

    This Circuit that blow is switching power supply. Google about it, simply 2 mosfets, 1 Coil, capacitors and driver.

      This guy is just learned everything diy. He doesn't know how to properly proceed with fixing motherboards. It begins with reading the schematics to understand how the device works. It doesn't have a charging issue, he already put a fully charged battery inside from a donor laptop and proceeded to remove the ic that is responsible for charging the laptop. Big time fail.

    Crazy when you see something on camera before he sees it, and it gets looked over several times. Sometimes having a second set of eyes is great!

    bravo for the excelent video... try on the coil that you removed to inject 3 volts 3 amps without the coil on the motherbord. with your thermal camera you will see the short circuit... becareful without the coil and inject the voltage on the side with the short circuit...

    What type of a soldering wire you are using? And how much temperature of the air do you use for removing the chip whithout damaging the pcb. And the diameter of the nozzle did you use the remove the small components?

    Got a spectre with a similar taste for smoked flavor, never solved it, burned a fingertip or two since I have no FLIR.
    The screen was good and the battery wasn't swollen so it's parting time, not all is lost, I'm starting to love the infamous Asus ROG's lone since they are almost always fixable...
