@@wildbill23c I agree. I had a modern Dodge truck, but when the front end wore out, i decided to sell it instead of repairing it and went looking for an older truck. I ended up with a 2001 Dodge 3/4 ton 4x4 with a gas 5.9 ltr engine. It had 125,000 miles and runs and drives great. Only cost me $6k. Money well spent in my humble opinion. The name Cattle-lac is a throwback for me because when I was young growing up on a farm in Buchanan VA we had an 1978 Chevy 3500 that we would haul cattle to the local livestock market. Needless to say it was an oxymoron. It certainly wasn't anything close to a Cadillac.

The Cummins adds a lot of weight.... which can be good for traction. The Ram can be better for special uses like long hauls while the Chevy can make for a better daily though on everyday jobs .... before modifications to either that is. The Chevy will be cheaper and easier to keep running generally, however the Cummins is reliable, it'll be the shipping crate around it that has more little issues and faults overall during its lifespan.

This is great. My first truck was a Chevy like that. I have a 01 Dodge Cummins now. The Dodge is so much heavier but there are many things you can do to make it almost unstoppable off road in all conditions. Balance the weight with a couple sand bags in the back. Put a Posi Lok on it to get rid of the horrible vacuum ran CAD in the front axle. Soften the suspension and put pizza cutters on...Put a winch on it when you get stuck... because you will.

You’ve spent 2500$ on your chevy project? We’ve spent like 3000$ on ours and it still has problems

Fresh snow is always better to drive on. After this first truck. It becomes slicker.

Is that a garden hose coming out from behind the seat? Or part of some kind of trick cooling system.

I have a 1991 K1500 with a 350 paired to a 5 speed. I have made it places that amaze other drivers. The g80 really makes a difference. Pus knowing how to drive helps...

I’m not sure on that era of GM trucks, but in the newer ones the RPO codes are printed in there. If it says G80 it has the locking rear.
