That plastic piece on the tailgate is actually to protect the tailgate from rocks that might be on the bumper so you don’t damage the paint.

Another great feature on this truck. You've done a ton to it and have made it one of the cleanest 2nd gens around! You're knowledgeable about it and the engine as well. You reconditioned that truck inside and out. I like the addition of the yellow fog lights in the front. I think 2nd gens are one of the best looking trucks out there, it was a revolutionary design when they first came out and were styled after a big rig. Most of these trucks today aren't fixed up like yours. You didn't mention injectors, so I assume stock for now, but a little bigger size and some delivery valves and you'll be close or over the number you're going for easily. A future compound setup will be a delight and you're well on your way with the S300 which will be a great high pressure top turbo.

One of my friends had a Dodge pickup similar to that except that it had a automatic trans. He used it as a daily driver as well as towing a 5th wheel. The one big complaint he had was that the auto trans couldn't last. After the second trans repair, he sold it and bought a brand new Chevy 4 door pickup with a turbo diesel and a 6 speed auto. That thing got better highway mileage than my 4 banger Tacoma!

My current truck is a 2000 Chevy Silverado that I bought for $2,600 with 363k miles. That was just shy of 6 years ago. The biggest expenses I've had was a reserviced transfer case for $900 when I bought it. Fuel pump died on the road and cost $600 to replace. Then a used engine this past summer for $1,100 plus $600 freight. Just about every single normal wear and tear item replaced as well. I fortunately have done all the work except the fuel pump. So I've spent a lot of time and relatively low money but it's has been completely worth not having a loan payment. The truck now has over 437k miles and going strong.

Love the truck! Crazy how the Colorado diesel makes similar numbers to this truck when new. This was way more potential, obviously.

In those days, the manual did NOT have less power. Ever since 1994, the manual always had more hp AND more torque. We can thank the weak 47RE auto for that. It wasn't until 2003 when the 48RE "HO" Cummins finally matched the NV5600 numbers. And wasn't until the 4th gen when the auto finally surpassed the manual torque.

Also, i LOVE this ram. The 12V is such a stout engine! I've worked on TONS of generators with this engine. Never ever ran into one with issues.

      I second that.
Roman has hired a real future auto journalist, rock star in this guy.
This dude has it all, the whole package, looks, charisma , confidence, and for me the most important attribute is his excellent automotive knowledge, he really understands what he is talking about.
I am still not sure why, but Roman or whomever makes the call, they seem to stick Kase behind the camera way to much.
He has the knowledge, the confidence, and skills to back up what he talks about.
There is not many auto journalist that I can say that about.
Too many clearly don't know beans about what they are talking about.
Kase really seems to know his way around vehicles, and it shows any time they let him be on cam.

We had one of those old M trucks as a kid. It hauled more wood up steeper hills with mud and snow than it had any business doing. Cool Ram too,, you should check out Deboss Garage. He has swapped a few trucks and may have some helping ideas for you or maybe even a built pump. Cheers fellas!

What’s funny is that I could spend like 1/2 the money & have a ford idi or 7.3 that’s like 500hp. You can get a 7.3 Powerstroke around here for 2-3k & have it with stage 1 injectors, straight pipe, & stacks.

I find it a bit amusing to see how younger generations "discover" old vehicles, their quirks, specs and features. That dealer brochure, for instance. Those were exceedingly common for most vehicles throughout the entire 1990s, maybe earlier. I remember being obsessed with them when I first got into cars. Anytime my parents would stop in a dealership to look at a new car, I'd always walk out with a stack for thr various models. It's a bit of a shame they don't offer them anymore.

Plastics for the front bumper, etc.... would be very helpful to us that are restoring our second Gens... 🙏🏼 I’m currently working on a new to me 96 12v 2500 4x4 auto club cab long bed with 164k in the clock.

the manuals made more power stock then the automatics did. had a bigger p pump. the automatics are the ones known to blow up but can be built to a stronger degree then the manuals (96 12 valve guy whos built his whole truck himself)
