Steves rover engine ran very rich on 7 cylinders but helped out with less power and more torque.. What was the make of American car designed to shut some cylinders of to save fuel again ? lol.. You Americans missed out on the best engines ever for early landrovers, the 200 TDi and 300 TDI built to run forever.. Ian - UK

LOL --Legend has it the best engines ever for early discoveries you never got in the USA were the 200 TDi and 300 TDi variants, they run for ever and on anything oily including cooking oil mixed 50/50 with diesel plus a splash of unleaded to keep the injectors clean/ works well too/ lol

One day i mucked up at the pumps and put £20 of unleaded in by mistake, so just drove to the store to buy £20 of new cooking oil, then topped up with diesel - it ran for many miles just fine, but a newer diesel engine would have gone into meltdown with warning signs... I now own a Freelander diesel, the BMW unit, and can no longer try cooking oil sadly, but thats OK..

The only this that stopped old land rovers was actually getting them started. the early land rovers had a British Leland engine that wasnt exactly known for reliability. That being said ,land Rover is the ONLY car company that an old ad campaign was true. "The vehicle that explored 4 continents". They were SO tough that one survived being nailed by a rhino who was having a bad horn day. I intro to "Mutual of Omaha's Wild Kingdom" actually shows the whole incident. As to the Off road capabilities of Full size Broncos. I can personally Attest mine went through absolute hell and the only mods i had was a1 1/2" lift and 33's and i took it everywhere i could'

Props to all of the trucks and 4x4s here. That little samurai kept up with the big boys, the Discovery ran on only half an engine but made it look easy, Betty the C10 was indomitable (and will likely run again), the Bronco did it all on no coolant, not to mention broken axles, dramas, roll overs... Amazing stuff and well worth watching
S10's are tanks dude never underestimate them I own two trucks on for parts mainly and a blazer that's my daily driver when I'm finished restoring it

I thought at first that this was one of the weakest of the cheap truck lineup. By the end of the challenge I completely changed my mind. That S10 is the toughest truck I have ever seen, bar none!

In keeping with my comment regarding the JYD crew hosting TG US I was starting to hope the S10 would be the JYD version of the YO truck that Jeremy, Hamster and Captain Slow tried to do their level best to kill and couldn't so it was enshrined in a place of honor on the set.
