Maybe he didn't like the distraction of the screaming passengers or maybe he thought that one or more might eventually rise up and try to subdue him. Don't give this guy any credit at all. Prior to this he was committing armed robberies and now he is guilty not only of resisting arrest but attempted murder.

a good time to have shotgun slugs. would have likely penetrated any concealment in side that bus as long as the officer could aim. those buses have the engine located in the back i believe so over penetration is not as likely.
To be honest, most of his problems probably came from using those hi-capacity mags with those Hi-Points.
They're actually pretty damn reliable guns if you just keep them with the regular magazines.
Hi-Points are solid and reliable with 2 important points; Avoid the knock-off hi capacity magazines, and avoid steel-case ammo.
The cop with the shotgun should've at least had a hi-point carbine with a red dot, instead of that pump shotgun.

You know... all things taken into consideration here, I actually respect the guy somewhat for letting all those innocent bystanders get off the bus. This situation could have ended up much worse without that semblance of human decency on his part, and that level of compassion is not often seen in criminals.

I medically retired in 2011 from a major city pd... But when I was on the job I kept 4 rounds in the 870 with the fifth in my left front pants pocket (that was our policy) but my 870 was equipped with a side-saddle... I also staggered the rounds as 00, slug, 00, slug, 00.... Keeping an extra box of rounds for each weapon in my duty bag...
We weren't authorized to carry AR's at the time but we were allowed to check out an .30 cal M1 carbine from the armory if we choose to and I did so faithfully... I secured that in the trunk at the ready with a 30 round magazine...

That little carbine must have for an excellent policing weapon. At least they let you carry something truly useful when the time comes. I'm sure the M1 would do everything inside even extreme ranges policing can end up seeing. Inside a couple of hundred yards that'd be a great weapon.

If the street cops at the North Hollywood Bank robbery would have had a box of slugs in their GO bag , they could have put those two assholes down, body armor or not . They might not have penetrated the kevlar, but it would've knocked those boys off of their feet !

I’m an EMT. And you don’t put the tourniquet “high and tight” you actually want to put the tourniquet as close to the wound as possible. Wherever you put the tourniquet is cutting off bloodflow and if you have to amputate you’re going to want to keep as much of the leg as possible.

Perhaps address the bad positioning by the female officer at the back of the bus; she was clearly in the line of fire from the three cruisers at the front, especially had they been firing rifles. Makes me wonder if her injury was friendly fire or from the suspect.

As a civilian who travels everyday with public transport I can say that the decision to stop the bus was the mot dangerous and stupid decision of all. How can you think that you can arrest someone that is armed without a fight in a bus? She thought that he will not pull his gun just because it was in bus? If this is what she was thinking about than she needs to quit this job and start an leftist ONG talks about human peace. The smart move that the police had to do in this situation is, as many pointed in the comment section, to follow the bus in an unmarked car until the target exited the vehicle and went into a safe space without civilians. By stopping the bus the police officer made the target agitated and increased the levels of aggression because of the panic. This should be a police training incident for the "don't do like this". Thank God for High Point pistols they save lives when they malfunction after every round. Had he been shooting Glocks or Sig the video would have been very graphic.
Not to give any kind of credit to high point but he was using aftermarket extended mags, this is why you should shoot your firearm to find any flaws with your system. Next time use a better firearm with reliable mags and ammo. well not for him there wont be a next time.

I would say it's possibly a failure of firearm maintenance. Granted most people don't get this technical with mags. But 9/10 I'd bet the dude probably loaded the mags to full capacity and kept them loaded forever, causing the spring to become bent in a compressed form. I've seen it happen in many novice level matches. Glocks, Sigs, Para Ordnance, AR's, AK's, Mini 14's, SKS 20 rounders, Galils, etc. I'm not a Highpoint fan by any means. I'll say they helped with me with learning how to shoot semi auto pistols properly when I first got into pistols. But if you own something with a mag capacity over 10 rounds, it's only smart to A not keep it at full capacity 24/7, or B, stretch the spring out regularly. You'll save a lot of money and heartache if you do.
Maybe not Sigs but Springfield or Glock, sure.

Unbelievable...I've been watching TH-cam vids for 10 years. This is the most intense/comprehensive/educational/REAL-LIFE encounter I've seen. Bravo to the everyone especially the Officers involved, and even the bad guy, he taught us many lessons today! Thanks ASP for the opportunity to learn from this tragedy!

The female officer left the bus to make the shooter's aim not flag everyone in the bus. If the shooter kept shooting at her, he would probably hit a bunch of people. By leaving she drew his fire away.

I probably would have tried to trail the bus or call in an unmarked car to follow the bus until the guy got off and then tried to ambush him and make the arrest.
Having a known armed felon in a bus full of civilians is not a great stage to launch an arrest/gun fight. Also why did no officer have a rifle? Poor execution all around, except for the the execution of the perp.

This is a tough one,, a bus with passengers and the cop just walks in there. Definitely a good decision that no CCWs drew their gun or else it could have been crazy by mistaken identity or something from the cop also. That guy was crazy, but at least he didn't even threaten the innocent people on the bus or outside.
K Fraz The "decision" for no CCWs to draw their gun was because there were no CCWs. Maryland doesn't allow CCW. The decision was made by the state, not by any CCWs on the bus that decided to hold off on drawing.

This video has so much fail by these police officers its not funny. The most important thing to bring to a gun fight is not the gun but the "fight" which many of these female cops did not do. Secondly the shotgun use was very poor. All in all there needs to be more training by all involved.
The shotgun use was PATHETIC. If he had slugs maybe I could look past missing 5 times but this was a pretty close range fight and that should be an easy kill. You could hit from the hip with buckshot at that range. That shotgun should have ended the fight but the officer got too trigger happy and didn't aim.

Laser Games police shotguns do not use chokes or extended barrels. Smoothbore 18.5 inch barrel=1 inch per yard spread, even less if he was using a flight control buckshot which is very common in police armories. Go back to the video games.

@Irom Mqn "High Point" in the gun manufacturer, they are inexpensive firearms. The weapon jams for a number of reasons such as quality of workmanship, ammo type, dirt weapon, etc. As with most "lower" end priced firearms I would say workmanship.

As a LEO, I'm ashamed of the first responding officer... She literally screamed like a little girl and ran off the bus.... As a LEO we take an oath to protect and serve and we receive adequate training in the academy, so there is no excuse for that first officer's behavior...

Problem for him wasn't the hi-point but using those high capacity magazines that weren't designed for that particular gun. My first gun was a hi-point and the thing was actually pretty reliable when used and cared for properly.
