Tinck Arms Perun X16: A Contender To Take The AR-15 Crown?

  • With thanks to Tinck Arms, Lynx Pro Tactical Training Center in Slovenia and ‪@PolenarTactical‬ we got to take a look at the new Perun X16 in .223 Rem. It's rather an interesting design, intended for suppressor use, and it shoots really, really flat - a contender to take the crown from the AR15?

    A rifle made from 80% off-the-shelf AR15/SCAR parts, 20% original bits, and 100% gun-nerd genius! Also. "Giblets". A welcome return for a vital technical term deplorably neglected by GunTubers. KUTGW

    Thanks Mike, it seems like this could find a niche in the US market among those of us that are interested in a "modern sporting rifle" but don't want to settle into the common place AR or AK camps. Yet it is AR like enough to take advantage of a portion of the existing aftermarket. I think that if it can come in at the midpoint of the AR price range it could be successful. Unfortunately I live in a fairly restrictive state where it's unlikely to even have a chance to come in at all. I'm keeping my eye on that straight pull bolt action model you featured recently as my best option.

    Interesting gas system, reminds me of an old Magpul patent for a similar system(gas tappet and tiny gas tube on the trunnion with a AR-15 style gas tube bringing gas to it). I prefer this one since in this design you can access the piston for cleaning much more easily.

    I remember Polenar Tactical making a vid about a test of this gun upper and a prited 3d lower. The printed part never broke as there is no force applied to it when shooting contrary to the ar15 bufer tube holder that often breaks when printed. I think this will sell very well in the US. I hope so anyway.....

    The way they made something innovative that still utilizes readily available components is genius bolts and barrels are probably the most difficult parts of a firearm to manufacture properly. The small parts for the lower can be surprisingly difficult to manufacture if you are trying to set up new production so taking advantage of the massive existing supply chain for the AR-15 was a fantastic idea.
    It would be very interesting if Slovenia ever decided to replace the F2000S and the Perun managed to win the solicitation.

    The upper forming an outrigger you simply hang a hand gaurd off is a very simple solution. I can see that being copied for ARs as it removes the bridging problem without making it awkward to access the barrel or gas system - one of the objections to monolithic uppers being the inability to change barrels.

      It's kinda best-of-both-worlds, bit of AR, bit of SCAR, and the recoil impulse from the moving parts is very low cos there's not much mass moving. I'll likely be getting myself one in the fullness of time! (the long configuration)

  • @aaronorr5586
    @aaronorr5586 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    Makes you wonder if a slightly thicker web Glass/Nylon lower could be moulded to hold the AR lower components and if it would take any weight off vs. a 7075-T6 Aluminum forging with the rear ring cut off.

    • @Shadow0fd3ath24
      @Shadow0fd3ath24 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      wouldnt even need to be thicker...polymer AR lowers do fine everywhere minus the rear buffer section. So take a $40 tennesee arms or NFA lower and cut it for this and it should work and will be 5.1 oz or more lighter in the same config with a TN arms one

      How so?

    • @diamant1337
      @diamant1337 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      The long picatinny on the top would be a great optics mount, can also be changed to have a better cheekweld.
      The lower can easily be 3D printed to accept a bullpup trigger, as it not a structual component.
      The charging handle is on top of the barrel, so it would be easy to reach in a bullpup configuration.
      Also the receiver and buffersystem is so compact and short, that lenght of pull does not seem to be a problem.
      The one hindering thing I can see is that theres a gasvent point infront of the rear gasblock, and it would not be lefty friendly.😋

  • @saccaed

    I am a right handed shooter who has lost the use of my dominant eye, this means that I have to shoot rifles left handed (pistols only require a little readjustment to shoot right handed) but rifles are more difficult because (in most cases) the stock gets in the way. Have you any recomendations. I really don't like being hit in the face with hot casings. Semi-autos are a nightmare and with bolt action I find myself switching from left to right to reload. I have been shooting right handed for 50 years and it is a hard habit to break.

    • @BlokeontheRange
      @BlokeontheRange  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1
