The German requirement for the minimum barrel length or "Anscheinkriegswaffen" (apparent weapons of war, i.e. guns that look like scary military rifles) was reduced from 42cm to 40cm for competitive shooting (no such restrictions ever existed for hunters) with the latest revamp of the gun laws in 2020 (one of the few things that got better). So a 16" barrel (40.6cm) is now sufficient. No special barrel will be needed for us \o/
In Finland, they did the same. Former legal measurements for a rifle were, overall at least 84 cm and barrel had to be more than 40 cm. Now it's overall at least 60 cm and barrel must be at least 30cm. So that was great. Now I can have KAC SR15 11.5" with pinned flash suppressor.
@@vpr2528 Interesting, 60cm OAL (in the shortest fireable configuration, e.g. with stock folded/collapsed) and 30cm barrel length is also the legal definition of a long gun here in Germany (and has been for a long time). However here the barrel length is measured including the bolt and bolt carrier in the locked position. So for example an MP5 with a 22.5cm barrel is still a rifle with a fixed stock. But with the A3 collapsible stock or a folder, it's a pistol.

@@Cheka__ It doesn't sound like a big deal, until you realize that 42cm is 16.53". So any typical 16" barrel (i.e. 16.25-16.5") did not quite cut it. And unlike in the US, only the rifled part of the barrel is counter. So welding on a muzzle device isn't helping much either.

@ManualLabor I'm from Switzerland, so they are pretty ok, even though 2 years ago we adapted some of the stupid EU laws which made some stuff more complicated to get. But for now all in all it's pretty relaxed. Except for course when it comes to concealed carry, that's a no go since about 30 years. Unless you have some real good reason.

Yea. They are light enough that you can pull a fun party trick with friends. In some cases you can swap all the accessories off your friends AR onto a WWSD and the WWSD ends up about the same weight as your friends base rifle even with all the accessories.
Crazy light is cool until you see that barrel whipping.
@@CasperInkyMagoo any barrel oscillates during firing. The accuracy and durability is there, so it's a non-issue.

It's nice to see two of my four favourite firearms experts together on TH-cam. The WWSD rifle looks great. Sadly the child who would be prime minister in Ottawa has banned all AR platform rifles in Canada, so I will never be able to get one of these.
At least you'll be able to get a realistic airsoft version. Oh wait...

I know there are ways to legally own AR-15s in Norway. So I'll just have to wait for COVID lockdowns to lift, so that I can finally join my local shooter's club and start qualifying for dynamic shooting, and hope the WWSD2020 is available by the time I get it in order :P

In all likelihood, when the government gets around to implementing the new firearms legislation, we'll finally be rid of the stupid whitelist system we've had for the last couple of decades. That should mean the WWSD becomes legal for IPSC (DSSN) shooters, it is currently not legal in Norway because it isn't on the list of approved models.
Last I heard, the change is scheduled for this spring give or take a few months.
If they want to sell it in Norway they can indeed do that. And if you want to stick quad stacked 100 round mags in it and a suppressor on it you're free to do so as well. You can own pretty much everything short of SBR's and select fire weapons in Norway. You just have to get your dynamic sports shooting license and a background check in order. A friend of mine is into DSS and uses an MR223 A3 which is a great rifle to shoot but fairly heavy compared to the WWSD2020 weighing in at 3.5kg or 7.7lb. The WWSD2020 is literally half the weight of the H&K AG3/G3 I used as a service rifle which blows my mind.
@@slashdotism If you're qualified to own an AR then you also qualify to own standard capacity magazine, yes. Under the new rules though, we unfortunately have to comply with EU regulations saying rifle mags over 10 rounds capacity are "prohibited" meaning you cannot buy them for hunting rifles etc. Gotta be an active IPSC shooter or a reserve officer to get large mags.
If it's not on the "White list, it is not for Norway (I am a Norwegian IPSC/DSSN AR rifle shooter). But Brownells could apply for it to be on the "White list". Hope they do. I'm not familiar with the coming regulations, but do not have high hopes.

That law changed recently in germany. Now minimal barrel length for sport shooters is 16“ - thus no problem with the WWSD2020 here :-)

"Tucking up tight" is how you do CQB or handle your weapon after you've been patrolling or holding your weapon "up" for several hours.
Especially if it's twice the weight it needs to be.

I built my own using their specs, including the KE Arms lower, several months back and the thing is a joy to shoot. Mine holds about two minutes of angle, which is more than adequate. One of the best things about this rifle is that you don't have as many pins and springs just waiting to go flying upon disassembly, always a weak point in the AR system. After decades of the AR-15 becoming heavier and heavier, this is definitely a step in the right direction.
We live in the sub MOA era. Two minutes is poor.
@@CasperInkyMagoo A better shooter than I am could probably wring out the last bit of accuracy from this rifle. I have other rifles, such as an HK MR556, that are definitely capable of sub-MOA accuracy. For a very light rifle such as this (especially considering the sort of uses this rifle was designed for), two minutes is just fine with me. In my experience over forty years, I've seen people shot 50 100 yard groups where 49 of the groups will average 2". One group will come in at an inch and they will declare the rifle an MOA shooter. Most people vastly overstate the accuracy of their firearms.
@@CasperInkyMagoo One other thing. Because this rifle is so light and handy, you don't have to shoot it from a sandbag rifle rest to achieve excellent accuracy from it. There is such a thing as practical accuracy, and the WWSD design excels by these standards.

And in a modern context: every less pound of rifle is another pound of optics, lights, magnifiers, night vision, laser target designators, etc. That you can put on a rifle.

My first time on target I was locking down a doorway for nearly 20 min. You start holding your rifle all kinda weird ass ways like that haha
And sadly here in the UK we can't have anything like it. A "straight pull" is no substitute for an original.

a 5 lb, accurate, reliable combat rifle. I mean.. perfection? Literally the only difference I would make is I want a 6.5 Grendel, so it's a great everything rifle, from personal defense to hunting. Amazing job Ian and Karl (and Sinistral)!
Also, I'd be right there with you ordering one, Bloke.. but I live in Mexico, soooooooo.... yeah. Should I ever move back to the USA though, I'll be getting whichever iteration the WWSD AR is on at that time. (and a 6.5G barrel)

My opinion is OOOH YES, here’s an AR I could definitely get on with. There’s no weird buffer tube noises, recoil is negligible and it’s light as a feather.
I still don’t know my way around and AR though. My first action with it was to drop the mag instead of dropping the bolt 😆

@@cheekibreeki3607 In 2015 there were 317 private assault rifles in Finland. MGs (1421) and SMGs (2592) greatly outnumber them.
This is unrelevant, as WWSD2020 is not an assault rifle...
Work on getting a straight pull.
A lot of thought has gone into that - and one can the influence of the left -hander Ian in getting it to work left or right handed (or even single handed). All too often tools designed for one handedness are a total liability to the other handedness.
I find that ambidextrous ARs provide advantages to the correct handed as well. I find it easier to sweep an ambi selector lever back to the safe position with my firing hand index finger than with my thumb. On a “milspec” gun righties can only use the thumb.
The rifle matches they (inrange tv) do often includes mandatory off hand shooting. So left hand shooting is required to complete a stage. Might as well finish off the rest of the ambi because it makes a rifle much more flexible and marketable.
One thing I did differently on my WWSD is use a superlative arms adjustable gas block. It makes it even better.
Several times after you unloaded it, your body language kept saying you were going to take it and run because you didn't want to give it back! I was waiting for you to point over Ian's shoulder and say "Oh look, Karl showed up..." and take off the minute he turns his head.
Gun Jesus, still inspiring on the mission field as the message makes its way toward Europe.
Somehow far more appealing than Karl and Russell's reveal on InRange. Personalities win out?

@@Cross31415 The InRange video was intended to be clinical - it was a full and thorough break down of the rifle and its components to ensure people knew what they were paying for if they decide to acquire one.
I was wondering if because the lower was so light that the gun would be front heavy, so it's good to hear that the rifle balances well.
I built a KP15 that has a thicker 16" SS barrel and a lightweight, but not carbon fiber lightweight, handguard. It still feels great in the hand. I believe if one stays 16" (or 18" skinny) without a "heavy" barrel it will still feel exceptionally acceptable.
It’s a pencil barrel, so it’s even skinnier and lighter than the current M4 military profile.

@@timmteller871 Doesn't that kind of depend on what you want to shoot, and where? If you're trying to knock off the local population of rabbits or grey squirrels, both invasive vermin here, it may be a bit over the top. If you're after feral goats and hogs that are wrecking the ecosystem, it's fine, I'm sure. If you're after Chinese water deer, another invasive species, it'll do the job. If your target is 1300 lbs of moose, 2 km away or wearing a lot of rifle plates, this is not the rifle for the job. If it's 1300 lbs of moose, 2 km away *and* wearing a lot of rifle plates, we need to know the backstory to your current problem, because that's quite unusual, and also may I suggest leaving it to the artillery?

For comparison, the H&K G3 is over 4 kg or nearly 9 lbs, so almost double the weight. I fondly remeber what we called the “AG drills” (from the AG-3 variant of the G3) that we'd always do when marching. Lift it out 90 degrees from your body, and hold. Then but it behind your head and lift it up, and down, and up, and down, and up, and down. Then holding it with just one hand, and out 90 degrees to your left, count to ten, then shift and hold it out 90 degrees to your right, and then repeat. Often while singing some silly song. My favourite was that song they sang in Full Metal Jacket. Good times! :') I note that it would be about 50% easier to do the same drills with this weapon.........

As much of a fan of shorty ARs, 20 inches is the correct length for 5.56 as God and Stoner intended
I had an FFL back in the 80's, and decided to get a .223 for plinking, as 30-06 surplus had disappeared. I was reloading 30-06 (only three bolt actions were factory produced for South Paws) so I didn't want to switch to Nato 7.62 and redo all my reloading dies. I had a pawn shop that had gotten a mini-14 in at very good price, but while it was twice as much there was always the Civilian AR-15. I actually called Colt, and ended up forwarded to a lady who could tell me the specs. She stated the Colt AR-15 from the factory was supposed to shoot an 8.5" group at 80 yards... I ended up with the mini-14, which has been extremely sturdy, though removing the bolt was persnikety.
This rifle is about as close to the original AR-15 as the Me109K. to the Bf109B. They are recognizably family, but more efficient manufacturing techniques, weapons, engines, and fuel have really turned them into such different weapons system that there are almost no parts that are interchangable...

The octagone desing hand guard allow you to set a 45 degree off set sight w/NOT need to add anything else.
Dont know if somebody already wrote this. But Germany does in fact not need a different barrel lenght anymore. With the last law change the updated the length from 42cm (roughly 16.75 inches) to 40cm (roughly 16") to comply to US standards and allow import of US Models unchanged.

The polygonal heat-shield strikes me as more ergonomic (better fits the hand) than a cylindrical one.
I'm legit bashing myself right now because I can't recall the gun itself, but a buddy of mine once let me go through a handfull of mags with his rifle and I goddamn LOVED the octogonal hand guard. I naturally gravitate towards the "C-clamp" grip (thumb over bore) and I found it fantastically ergonomic. I was baffled at first, thinking such a thick hand guard shouldn't have felt so natural with that grip, but then I simulated the grip on and empty hand and looked through it... it naturally makes a goddamn octagon. That realisation blew my tiny mind.
With the PDQ lever it actually touches and lifts the ejection port cover so releasing the bolt can be done by pressing the ejection port cover
Uh oh. I’m left handed and may have just found my first AR since my Army Issue iron sights M16A1. I may miss the hot shell casings going down my fatigue shirt however (not!) and the gymnastics with the safety and bolt release. This looks gooooooooood.

12:08 In czech republic we a re very gun-friendly and barrel lengths are non-restricted. Most popular is anywhere between 10.5-14.5" inches. Threads are no problem either.

To be honest the Home Office could legalise semi autos overnight and no one would notice. The UK public are 99.9% convinced that guns are outright illegal so they wouldn't even notice the difference.
Of course the Home Office would never do this, they're still convinced pot gives you reefer madness.

I do like that the bolt release can be activated by trigger finger. It's not like I need a 4th AR, but if I can convince the missus that this is a game changer...

"Tucking up tight" benefits:
1. Less muscle fatigue
2. Slightly smaller silhouette
3. Slightly more peripheral view
None of these matter until your targets are dynamic and you have to be constantly alert and ready.
Examples:
1. Dangerous game hunting
2. Military/LEO on patrol
3. Getting your behind handed to you in paintball by your cousins

People in the middle east call it the "sniper button". But even they don't use it how it's intended.
Just did multiple times the other day on a Mk.12 build. (PRI factory upper, FNH factory military collectors M16A4 lower w/ timney one piece FCG)
Bolt was sluggish going into battery. Failed to go into battery when dropping bolt on a several 20/30 G3 magpul magazines only loaded with 5-6 rounds.
It was a buddy’s rifle. I am going with he hasn’t cleaned it and or it needs a new buffer spring.

Quick qualifier, I’ve used the AR platform in several different configurations, contexts, and applications over the past 12 years. From recreation, competition, military, and more recently in LE and armory work.
The dirtiest I’ve ever had a rifle get was while conducting medical evacs in a desert environment. Constant brown-outs from helicopters caused every nook and cranny of my rifle to get completely inundated with gritty sand particles. I test fired my rifle before cleaning later the next day and had no issues.
More recently (and in a less hostile environment) during a training exercise my rifle became pretty filthy from swamp mud. Moved directly into a live fire exercise and didn’t have any failures.
All this to say I’ve never had to use the thing, but in both instances my hands were so contaminated with gunk (blood/sand, swamp mud) that I’d rather have pushed on the forward assist to seat a bolt rather than try to seat it with my thumb on the dust cover divot and introduce more gunk into the action. Also consider if you are in a situation where you need to immediately seat a bolt rather than apply more careful remediation (think firefight) you’ve likely been firing your rifle a bit and that dust cover divot gets extremely hot since it has two gas exhaust ports in it.
I for one like having the forward assist, but a rifle without one is not useless or even greatly disadvantaged in my opinion.

I feel like the safety not being able to be put on unless the hammer is back is a non-issue, since the gun can’t fire anyway. Never really understood the hang up about that particular “problem.”
Width of safety margin is very much a matter of personal preference. While I actually strongly prefer the way original AR safety works (it safely and easily gives you feedback info), I can see how someone's mindset can be different. Especially among people who were/are responsible for large groups of guys (where, statistically speaking, someone will do something surprisingly dumb at some point).
I never understood it either. If the rule of treating every weapon as loaded still applies, then that doesn't matter

Here in Britain, due to laws brought in a few decades ago we can get ARs if you jump through a million expensive hoops, but they can only be semi-automatic in .22... Anything larger, and it has to be 'straight pull', AKA made into a glorified bolty.
Go back a hundred years, and we could own basically anything- it was an Englishman's right to be armed... We had it so good then, as despite every gentleman being able to wander around with a Webley, and every Tommy being able to own a rifle, there was so little gun crime that the police didn't ordinarily have guns, just a wooden truncheon and a heap of respectability. There were occasions where the police borrowed guns from the public if they needed them!

But nonetheless very interesting I would very much like to dig deeper into the events or possibly even the political and social climate of Britain when these rights were striped from the country's citizens
@@blaineterrel5367 Although there is a EU directive on firearms laws, the laws are still very different in different EU countries. The Czech Republic is closest to the US, where you can even conceiled carry with a simple permit and own about everything for sports shooting. In Germany (where I live) it's a lot more legal hoops and waiting periods to jump through, but you can still own semi-auto rifles for sports shooting/IPSC, although with limited magazine capacity to 10 rounds since 2019 and various other limitations. Most AR-15 competition shooters around here buy a German-made AR from companies like Schmeisser, because they already comply with all the regulations on stocks and whatnot.
Interestingly enough, semi-auto handguns are easier to come by and are less regulated than semi-auto rifles. It's usually not a problem to buy a US-made handgun in Germany for sports shooting. And you can still have 20-round magazines for handguns.
The regulations and licencing and stuff you have to do to get a gun licence and buy guns would sound insane to most US citizens, but in the end, it's not impossible to have some fun on the range. I'd love it if more people realized it's not that hard to get your licence. But most people around here are so afraid of guns, I don't even tell them that I am a legal gun owner.
@@letsgoraiding Even up to 1967, anybody in the UK over the age of 17 could go into a gunshop and buy a shotgun with no kind of permit or background check. It's amazing how much attitudes have changed in just a few decades.
I like ambi, the pdq is cool, but releasing the bolt catch can be done with the magazine hands middle finger by gripping around the mag well, im 5’9 and i can manage it is not a 2 handed operation unless youre following the recruit manual of arms.

I always thought that the M16A1 was an elegant weapon. It was my assigned weapon for many years in the guard and reserve. I carried a M203 (attached to a M16A1) in desert storm, and my assigned weapon the reserves was the M16A2, also for my deployment to iraq same. Initially, i thought that the M16A2 was a little bulky, and more brute force, but for a war, that's a good idea (killing made easy).
I think Bushmaster deserves some credit on this idea..They had a Carbon 15 that was polymer and carbon fiber mixed upper and lower receiver. The rifle was super light and still to this day the smoothest charging AR I've ever owned..They had a few QC issues and should've reinforced a few areas, but they idea was really awesome. I consider it a sleeper AR that not many people know about but is a diamond in the rough if you can find one. Finding one that was made great is even harder

The Carbon-15 is trash and doesn’t share any thing in common with the WWSD or the KP-15 beyond being an AR15 style thing.
@@SinistralRifleman It's not trash...Is it perfect? No. I'm simply saying people have been trying polymer receivers and lightweight materials for a long time now. Don't take it as a slight against your lower receiver lol

I could definitely see issues with holding zero. Not sure how stable the handguard is itself, then you have to mount rail to mook and peq to rail so there is definitely a chance for things to shift

When I first joined the Army and got to my first unit in 96' I was issued the 45 Cal Grease gun SMG. I was like wut? Is this Korea or WW2 lol. But about 6 or so months later we got brand new M4's. I absolutely loved them as a Bradley mechanic and recovery operator. The M16's where just completely awful for exiting and entering tracked vehicles and Humvees. I later did 3 deployments to Iraq with my M4's and again excellent rifle to have and fire. Now I am a civilian again and I own a AR15 with my old bipod and tac light. Almost feels like an old friend every time I go to shoot. AR's are the best way, for now at least.

At 13:18, I don't think anyone thinks "tucking in" is better for shooting. It's just a thing people do when their hands get tired. Not an issue when you are doing recreational shooting, might be an issue in the military/LE when you have to hold that rifle up on that corner for 15 minutes. And when the you-know-what hits the fan, you change to C-clamp for better recoil controll.
@@killdizzle yeah but militaries don’t tuck in anymore with body armor, we square off. The front presented for receipt of incoming rounds with a bladed or “Weaver” stance is also the area that modern armor is the weakest.
While I have full confidence in polymer pistol frames I will never be able to be fully confident or want to own a polymer AR receiver. OlyArms and the other early polymer makers ruined it for the market. I can’t give a proper argument besides I don’t like them.
Now we need a "What Would Lee-Enfield Do?". New manufacture Lee-Enfield with a synthetic stock, in 7.62 with a removable box magazine, Chrome internals etc. For the NIMBY countries like my own dear Canada.
In case of Canada, the question would be "What would Charles Ross do?"

Money is just meaningless numbers on a computer, trade those meaningless numbers for a real rifle that has inherent value. You're not buying a rifle, you're investing.

Just ordered one tonight (a KP15 lower). I _DO_ wish they had gone with a more modern grip angle akin to the BCM but I'm SUPER excited to build it up and put my 16" 6.5 Grendel upper on it. It's my "Mountain rifle" for hunting up here in OR/WA and most often, Idaho, and it'll be amazing to have an even lighter set-up for when I get up in the steeps and the rocks. I think I'll also like the polymer for less cold-transfer in the snow aye. Very excited to get it in my hands here whenever.

Highly doubt it. Maybe the polymer lower, but the pencil barrel and carbon fiber tube are unlikely. Militaries value durability over weight savings. The conditions and round counts/firing schedules in militaries are just too high.
They're picking pretty beefy HK 416s and LMTs. Like mentioned above they need something that's going to handle extreme conditions (like the G36 barrel profile causing POI shifts or the M4s failing in the Battle of Wanat).

I still like having a forward assist. Other than that, I really like keeping things light. One of the things I appreciated when carrying the M-16A1, was how simple and light it was. They put so much stuff on the M-4's these days (granted, there are reasons for them) that it's like you're carrying two of the original rifles.

I'm also annoyed by the sproing noise when shooting an AR, and I like my JP capture spring as well.
Funny enough, I’ve got a carbine spring and buffer in my KP15 and I don’t notice any sproing. It’s also a Sprinco chrome silicate spring which may have something to do with it.
I like! I also like building my own, so I today, I purchased a stripped lower in FDE by KE Arms. I can't wait. I've avoided the "plastic" lowers until now, but I can see great improvements. Thanks guys!

I have 2 ARs, I love my Stag. At here - Finland - we have special made ARs for competition shooters with nice price tag. I maybe would buy Ian's AR but my next AR is replica of the original....
