    Hi David, this is beautiful bike, I want to build one. some questions hope you can answer. what size of BB you use? what is the thickness of the frame and the chain stays? thank you.

  • @Epiphonication
    @Epiphonication 5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    how did you make sure to get the chain and seat stays properly allligned with the back axle?

    • @DavidParker
      @DavidParker  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Lucas Hermann well I spent a bit of time working out the templates for the bent laminations for them, I copied the geometry from a steel frame to a point and tweaked it so that it’d work with the slightly thicker wooden stays. They had dowels drilled through the main body of the frame and then I used a template to drill for dowels on the stays so that they’d both end up in the same place. I probably could’ve built a jig to really make sure everything was in the right place but once I made the dropout I put them in place with a wheel on and made sure it spun fairly true before drilling and gluing them in place. Also the dropouts do allow, not only for the chain to be tensioned, but also for the alignment to be tweaked a little. Also I did a lot of crossing my fingers and hoping!! Haha

    you should wear gloves while cutting the metal with the bandsaw...this small metal splinter can bebe very ugly when stucking into your skin...the rest is amazing work!

    • @timtheli0n
      @timtheli0n 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      No you should not! You should never wear gloves when using a band saw because the glove can get caught in the blade and pull your hand into the mechanism.

      @@timtheli0n Use látex gloves. They will break if they get caught into the mechanism.

      @@rockefede I tried that when I was first playing with milling and found that the latex did nothing to prevent metal splinters getting into my hands, and since it made it hard to feel what I was doing, I actually stabbed myself with the splinters more and not less. Also, the gloves get tiny holes in them and coolant will seep into the holes which sucks.
