Hi Sam, sorry that happened to you. Bamboo is such a good material for frame building. You're right, those fibers i think they're hemp which is plenty strong for normal riding but for a jump/ pumptrack bike i'd use carbon fiber. We run a bamboo guided tour business here in barcelona, and our bikes have their joints put together with both fiberglass and carbon fiber and we use them on a daily basis and they hold up pretty well. Some of them are 8 years old with no signs of weakening or cracks. Loved the video, have a nice day everyone!
See if you guys can figure out a way to make the joint's more resist to shock. To be honest I'd totally start downhill mtb again on a bamboo frame if it could handle the shock and stress of going down what's pretty much a cliff
Actually I would never use any kind of bamboo frame or part. They cost like a normal aluminium frame and they are insecure. 400 dollar for a piece of wood is not the right price for this joke.

I have built a few carbon fiber bikes from bare tubes. I may do a bamboo from the neighbor's patch. Bamboo has no torsional rigidity, and the downtube of a diamond frame bike takes the most load of any of the tubes, and most of that load is twisting, up near the head tube and down at the BB. When I made the carbon bikes, they were laid up like wood (ie, almost all the fibers going lengthwise) so they needed some 45 degree / 135 degree fabric to resist that twisting. Turns the bike from a wet noodle into a proper bike. This fabric can be purchased like a sleeve (or a finger trap...) making that reinforcement simple to do. That broke where everyone expected both because it didn't have any fibers wrapping properly around the head tube and tying them back to the DT and TT, but because the material (jute?) is weak and finally, the join is like a sponge with all those air bubbles. To make any DIY composite bike build work air needs to be squeezed out of the "lugs" being built by the lasagna at the join. Most builds I see do a terrible job of that, wrapping a few little straps and thinking that's compression. What works is doing thinner layers (might take 3-5 campaigns) and compressing with that packing cling wrap you can get at a hardware store. Give a first set of wrapping, then perforate with a pin all over, then cover with some foam, and apply a bunch more wrap to compress the heck out of it. This squeezes out the air bubbles AND the excess epoxy, both of which are necessary to get a trustworthy join. Still never be a jump bike though!
Blimey mate I'm glad your alright you really did push it too the limits and it was a really sweet table in slowmo. Take it easy mate your the best and Lewi you rock too. 🤘

Sam There is a carbon fibre FSB frames on eBay for £200 should definitely try it out to see if it’s actually good. You’re the man for the job!!

I think you can't stop trying new and wonderfully bizarre bikes, it's a part of your channel.... actually it's an extension of you.... cheers to dude 🤟
Sam would love to see you ride some vintage bikes and review them compared to new stuff. I love riding the older bikes and I think it would be hilarious to see you shred them!!!
Thanks Sam mate! Very good idea to put that type of bikes on the test! Bit sketchy though!!
Following you as always!!! 5*
Great video Sam just a sad ending to see the bike broken?! So glad you survived and will no doubt send it to the sky again soon! The halo did it’s job and stopped you face planting which was good! Stay safe buddy and look forward to the next one! 👍🏻😉

This is the best Thumbnail I've ever seen!
The dedication is unmatchable 👍🏾👍🏾
Out of all the crazy things this madlad has done, riding in cold weather without gloves has got to be the craziest..
Sam, I vote that you keep doing sketchy bikes but that for every new trick, you add more gear so that you gradually safer as the likely outcome approaches. Glad you’re okay and the Lewi is there to film it!
Always entertaining, I love your videos, Sam. Keep up the awesome content.
This video taught me a lot of good information about bikes and riding bikes.
Fwaaark... seriously that was so close to being a gnarly trip to the hospital, for as bad as it was, it couldn't have gone any better, happy you're okay mate🤟🏻🤟🏻
sam Does this shit so we dont have too . .. its all for science . . he is doing a national service . . SAM is saving lives , same is pushing the boundries of research and development . . . this vid was THE BEST!!!!
Ouch! Hope you were OK after that! Love your house, s Colchester. Glad you put the bamboo idea to bed. Honestly, who Wood have thought it 😳
I have built a few carbon fiber bikes from bare tubes.
You literally have no fear, like zero. So impressive my dude!
Always bringing the energy no matter the situation. Such a legend
You lucky bastard!!! Glad you didn't get impaled, but I laughed my ass off!!!
Blimey mate I'm glad your alright you really did push it too the limits and it was a really sweet table in slowmo. Take it easy mate your the best and Lewi you rock too. 🤘
sam sent it on this one love the videos my mother loved your trike videos had her in tears she recently passed away so i felt id just mention it she loved your videos as much as i do
Timing of the ambulance siren in the background is telling and to me a form of symbolism. Be safe man ✊
My favorite part of Sam is how he uses a hammer for everything. When I started watching mtb videos everyone was using presses and being very careful one turn at a time. Sam just beat it with a hammer until it stopped lol. I still remember the shock of watching him clean up a cut head tube on a fox 40 by rubbing it on concrete.
