    Nicely done Andy! I'm a kindred spirit as a cyclist, engineer, woodworker and wooden frame builder.

      You should give it a try.

    Love the bike, ever thought about selling plans for this build?, I have been looking online for wooden bike frame plans for some time but and cant find anything

    • @DavidParker
      @DavidParker  5 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      Kevin Berlyn not sure that I’d be comfortable doing that, I basically copied a steel frame and made all the tubes a bit larger and added some material around some of the joints. So I’m no expert on bike geometry etc!

    I keep coming here every day,its so gratifying to watch something beautiful come to life. I have another question though...Why is the frame made in 2 halves and then pasted together?

  • @trebolagroa

    Hello david, i have three questions if you would mind to answer i would be grateful.
    -What diameter are the aluminium pipes for the cabling?
    - What width of each "laminated timber" you use?
    and the last and most important:
    - What kind of pipe do you use for both the seat and fork mount?
    thank you very much in advance
    Robert

    • @DavidParker
      @DavidParker  3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I built this years ago so I don’t know what diameter the aluminium pipes are, i just bout it from the hardware store, big enough to fit a cable through 🤷🏻‍♂️ the laminations were different thicknesses, thinner ones in the centre and then thicker for the outside, the thinner ones were maybe 3mm or 4mm but it’s personal preference really. I bought the bike specific tubes from framebuildersupply.com

    did you calculate some geometry and forces ? I would love to make a wooden bike, but I am not sure if I just do it or should calculate some stuff.

    • @DavidParker
      @DavidParker  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      N. C. I copied a metal bike frame for the angles etc and then I made the tubes a bit wider and some more material around joints, but no calculations really. I made the walls of the tubes about 8mm because I’d seen someone else say they’d made them 6mm and I figured I’d go for extra strength 🤷🏻‍♂️ I say go use some common sense and go for it! Good luck!!

    Hey David ! Great work , congrats ! I noticed you used epoxy (West ?) in the build, but the coloration of the epoxy is different in the beginning of the video from end (9:08). Looks darker. Did you any kind of filler , saw dust ?

    • @DavidParker
      @DavidParker  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Lino Silva yes, I used west systems epoxy and added west systems filler plus a little bit of sawdust for colour. Just incase one of my joints wasn’t perfect, I didn’t want a white seam where the epoxy had filled a gap.

    @pranabgill1310 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    Hi..Amateur here...Why did you cut the wooden into thin strips and paste them together again.Why not use the solid piece of wood as it is?Is it a aesthetics thing or strength?

    • @DavidParker
      @DavidParker  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Both aesthetics and strength! The glue is stronger than the wood and the laminations of wood is stronger stiffer and more stable than just the one piece. But I could’ve done them all from one type of wood but it looks nicer with a pattern. Also for the chainstays I wanted to bend them and have them stay in that shape and a glued bent lamination is the best way to achieve that.
